I do believe there is a National Policy against filming our ceremonies, we prefer everything to be kept mysterious. Also, face paint is supposed to be approved by a Native American Tribe that was originally from the area of your Lodge AND by the National OA Lodge. I trust you did do this, as a Scout is Trustworthy.

I think its national policy that there are no secret societies in scouting.

As an order of the arrow member, I will say that Native Americans loved the land just as much as we scouts. It isn't right to honor the land by making a ceremony as we see fit in their name. After having an absolutely horrifying encounter by a spirit (yes I'm dead serious) I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt they don't like these ceremonies one bit. Whether consulted or not, looking at the practices with open eyes and understanding there are better ways to go about this would be a step in the right direction.

As all ceremonies are open to the public, i agree. even the Vigil Call-out is meant to be open to members only.

I acknowledge that there is so many things wrong with this, but I have to say, having the chief arrive standing in a canoe is pretty fucking awesome.

Really appropriate language to describe a Scout ceremony. I hope you're not a memeber of the BSA.

This wasn't an actual ceremony. The real one is an overnight one, all I heard is that they are taken to seperate locations in the woods, but that is only a rumor. This is probably a call out ceremony.

Mario Casciotta it is the call out ceremony. If they were to record this, wahissa lodge #118 would be p.o.

I shot this video because my son was being tapped out for the Vigil honor and have no say or control over how Wahissa Lodge #118 conducts their tapout ceremonies. The lodge's Ordeal and Vigil ceremonies have been in place and basically unchanged since the 1960's.

This is a great ceromony you guys put alot of passion in it. I would recommend a change in song from the last of the mohicans to Elton Johns Indian Sunset. You can find it on You tube. Mute your video and open a second window and play Indian Sunset while this one plays (but Muted) and you will see just how awesome this can really be.

my lodge does similar things with its call out ceremonies at our local camps. call out ceremonies are not a part of OA national standards meaning that they do not have to abide be any of the rules. i support what you guys do as I am a lodge chief.

our guard will were a warbonnets and our chief weres a full headdress to the ankels but a call out ceremony is not a ceremony that is not judgable thats why in events we dont have call out competition beacuse each lodge is diffrent when it comes to call out but you can give them a copy of your script and they can give you corrective judgement but thats all

I liked it. Wear face paint if you want to. Music was at times distracting ("The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly?") I thought it was cool how the candidates shook the hands of all present Vigil honor members.

I've done ceremonies for a long time, and I don't think that I have ever seen a ceremony that is so wrong. Not only is the music and identification of the Chief odd, but also the face paint is indescribably offensive and inappropriate.
@theloudduramax

jdog22003 wth do you mean "innapropraite and offensive" It's just a ceremony, their lodge does it like that, if you have a problem with it, keep it to yourself.

Ceremonies like this are why the OA gets a bad rep. It is completely inappropriate, especially with face paint. Also, why is everyone wearing warbonnets of a chief?!?!
