I did that hike to waimanu and camped in the valley by the second waterfall, deep in the jungle with a friend for 6 days. highlight of my life for sure, its cool to hear about someone elses experience with that journey, definitely wasnt easy but so worth it.

EPIC VIDEO! Wish there was more video of the actual route itself! MUCH RESPECT for you all even doing it! I first saw your video on walking to the Blue Hole on Kauai! I wish I was in shape to even attempt this! But I think I'm too old now to even try! Also disabled from a stroke, too! Bummer! I'll have to just settle for your videos! Nice job! Keep it up and Thank you!

Thank you Alvin!!! I feel so old too, my knees ache, I wish I was a young boy again ! haha. I hope for a full recovery for you and maybe one day you can. The blue hole is extremely difficult, but the waipio valley hike is much more straight-forward, although so long... if you manage to pack lighter than I did, it wouldn't be as bad. There are a couple really exhausting ascents on the waipio valley trail, but on top, it's much flatter and easier to manage.

You forgot to mention that you need a permit to camp in Waimanu.

What is it with tourists that they have to come unprepared and celebrate that with these videos. People live and earn a living down in Waipio and it is no longer possible to just drive down or camp down there. Waimanu is a really long and difficult slog from Waipio and the weather is not terribly reliable. Leaving your campsite w/o telling your companions is a very bad idea. This is how people, often experienced people die. Please treat the islands with respect. Get to know locals. They are mostly terrific folks and have great stories to tell. Learn the Hawaiian names for the waterfalls and their stories.

For real...I used to ask my hunter for friend take me Waipio-Waimanu...straight up told me "brah, you going complain too much" It's super rough from every description I've heard.
