One joke I fondly remember from this show was when Rodney was stuck in the wall. "Hopefully someone will hear me, I got 3 good screams in me!" The joke with the exterminator guy at the end was always hilarious to me! Throughout the episode he’s hunting Rodney throughout the walls, mistaking him for his nemesis: some swamp rat of Sumatra or something. Once he corners Rodney, the Dad actually defends him and tells the guy to Vamoose, only for the guy to say he hates getting Vamoosed before getting blasted into the air by a water geyser, like this was a regularly scheduled thing for him🤣🤣🤣

One thing I’m surprised wasn’t mentioned was the running gag they had where Andy would grab some family heirloom/household item and say it was given to him by his nana before she ~vanished~ and they’d do a scary music + zoom on his face whenever he said it. I always wished they built upon it or used it as a b-plot the mystery of what happened to her. Felt it could’ve really fleshed out the show’s plot.

Yay! You decided to finally talk about Squirrel Boy, I have been wondering if you would and I have a story to go along. I lived in Mexico border constantly visiting the US, shows premiered first in the US and after their translation was done they were shown in Mexico which took quite a while and my naïve mind never knew why and just thought it was unfair, it happened first with Camp Lazlow. Anyways, I remember watching the premier of Squirrel Boy with a cousin in the US and liking it a lot, after going to school, everyone was talking about what unpopular cartoons we liked, I said this show and everyone gave this look of 'uh-huh, sure buddy' then promptly ignored me, I had forgotten that I saw it in the US and schedules were different for both countries, weeks later they showed the trailer for the show and everyone thought I had predicted it and that it looked exactly how I described it and praised me as psychic. Instead of telling everyone the truth, I just basked in the glory and popularity that temporarily brought me, which in turn made the show very popular around the city for a few months!

I initially disliked this show as a kid. But it doesn't make the creator's death any less tragic. I will say that it did have some creativity in this show. I still remember the Island in the Street episode and the treehouse-off episode with the middle aged neighbor who always talked like a thesaurus, saying different words with the same meaning all at once. Also, Cartoon Network had this trend in the mid 2000s where they had a boy and his non human friend who always get themselves in trouble. This, Foster's, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Robotboy (similar title), even Adventure Time, which like Gym Partner, had a best friend animal character named Jake. Tommy from Robotboy even looks like Mac!

The one episode that always stuck with me was the one with Rodney ending up stuck in the walls. The exterminator guy they call had this whole history with his “nemisis”: the giant swamp rat of Sumatra or something. Looking back, that TOTALLY could’ve been that B plot he was talking about: this guy traveling around the world chasing after that giant rat like a game of cat and mouse, no pun intended. He naturally mistakes Rodney for the Rat and even in the end it has a final joke that could’ve been like a running gag for it, where the Dad stands up for Rodney and tells the guy to Vamoose, only for the guy to say he hates getting Vamoosed like it’s happened before and gets blasted into the air from a water geyser. Remembering it just made me realize how it was pretty much his version of Team Rocket’s iconic “we’re blasting off again!” thing from the Pokémon anime, which just made it funnier whether it was intentionally referencing that or not.
