Hello ,I´m from Portugal and we love barnacles (they are called "Percebes" in portuguese) ,they are truly a delicatessen, we say that they have the taste of the sea inside, very expensive shellfish because it´s super dangerous to harvest them... usually you just eat them, by sucking on them holding the claw, no need to cut them in pieces! Hey! I'm from Galicia and have eaten these my whole life for special occasions at my grandad's!!! You usually boil them with a couple of laurel leaves too, and you really don't need scissors to eat them! You kinda just split it with your hands to remove the outer part and then the 'neck' is stuck to the top part so you just kind of suck the inside part out and chew it in your mouth! I don't know if I explained myself too well, but it was really cool seeing you try them! I never really thought they were weird but they are quite a rarity I guess

Glad you got to try them :) Btw, Galicia (not to be confused with the historical Polish region) is the northwestern region of Spain, which actually has one of the best climates for gooseneck barnacles. They're called percebes there and they are delicious just boiled in saltwater. Gathering them is one of the most perilous fishing activities since the best ones are found on the rocks with strong waves and currents. Part of the reason they're so expensive.
