@@seppoinnanen5577 yes maybe, but i have never been able to have only one synth... Except once i had to choose between my Moog Voyager, the Tom Oberheim OB6 and the Deepmind12 and i chose the Deepmin12 for its versatility of sounds and my love of the roland style filter... I think if you are picky about the 100% analog sounds then it can't replace an analog synth despite it's anlaog sound being very nice. But if you can't live with only the analog sound and need other sources of sound then this is a great alternative. And yes todays plugins are amazing... sometihing like Omnisphere is astounding, the only downsize is having to choose in a limitless source of sounds and not spend days listening to presets with automations and the fact that they never did a hardware to controle it. I now see second hand Quantums mk1 down to 2500 euros and that's probably worth it.

@@zivdayan8919 i was suprised how good the digital filters are . those who have iridium can be very happy without the analog i think. The analog although very respectfull of the signal without huge coloration, do have that livelyness of analog, and the subtle saturation you can add is nice, the 24db does make tings fatter and the 12 airy lovely. i didn't show all the different cool modes like dual peak , opposite etc . I really like the filters on this synth , they are cosmic, smooth singing harmonics, no filter stepping ...

I have heard all the demos out there of the 3rd Wave. Sure I haven't tried it, but from what i heard and read confirms my impressions. The overall sound caracter is imho rawer more in your face, the analog filters have more caracter compared to the more high-fi sounding of the Quantum. The Va is very good, the 4 part multi-timbrality makes for sofisticated layering plus it's 24 voice polyphony, and good quality Fx and now it has new sampling capabilities. My opinion is that it's fantastic but like Quantum so expensive. When they launched the unofficial first batch i was offered 3500.- by 3rd Wave so when it when up to 5k i was disapointed.................. For an analog nerds like me the hybrids won't replace an fully analog synth (if i should have only 1) There is still for my ears , some sort of "clean" high-fi overall sound caracter like Quantum.... . The VA and Wavetables made it more limitedd tone wise in the begining, (though now it adds sample) compared to the the Quantum's various synthesizer engines.... but all these synth engins are done in such high quality now in Vst's !!!! and even entry level synths are so high quality like korg wavestate etc) that's it's hard to justify these high end synths. The pros being you have the analog filters (but the digital ones are so good !) and of course having the interface with the knobs for quick intuitive editing and a nice instrument.... But Digital synths loose there value , particularly when Mk2 comes out, ( i was so anoyed when Quantum did an Mk2 because it's value droped 1k on the used market, i brought mine 3k used and now they go for 2000-2200.- in europe) But the 3rd Wave will keep better it's value i think if they don't do a Mk2 which they said they are not doing because it would be unfaire to the customers.... So what to do ? be patient and wait for a used one maybe? Ps: The Quantum is bi-timbral only but each of the 3 oscillator can be a totaly different synth engin, it's like having 6 different sounds (but only two sets of envelopes and filters) also has a very prestine reverb and fx...

@@smartti1970 Great detailed reply thanks.. Yes its the 24 voices and Multitimbrality that most interest me about the 3rd Wave funny.. I was actually at Superbooth and looked at the 3rd Wave and chatted a little to the guy that wrote the Software code but I really didn't try it out properly as there was so much more I was interested to see.. But now I wish I had put on some headphones and had a play. Anyway I don't have to much GAS now but if I see a good price on a second hand one I may pick it up.. Its a nice Synth to team up with my others and fills the Gaps that my other synth don't quite provide.

The question Im facing, is - is it worth laying out a net spend of around £2500 to change from an iridium to a Quantum Mk2. the only difference being an extra octave of Poly AT keys and the analogue filters.....
@smartti1970
Жыл бұрын
Hi, just sharing my thoughts on this, I would love to have the poly after touch but having brought this synth used, i wouldn't want to buy it new with that huge price tag knowing they will be futur devaluation on it and it's the same synth sounds. The Mk2 was harmfull to the Mk1 value so Mk2 will devalue a bit soon and could be brought used. But there is already so much to do on this synthesizer without poly after touch ! You can set many parameters to after touch, mod wheel, touch screen pad etc ..... ..............................................................................................................................................................................................Have you heard the differences between the Quantum's analog and digital filter ? It exists but those digital filters have for me such a high end quality i'm amazed ! . Now i'm happy the analogs are there but they are subtle, they don't have so much character on the sound like the filters of the PPG, Modal Electronics 002, Sequential Circuits Prophet VS. . . i was really disappointed with Waldorf's marketing tactits ! Do we have a Jupiter 8 mk2 , Cs80 mk2 ? That was their flag ship Synthesizer and now the Quantum has lost almost half it's value on the used market. Minimoog's Jupiter 8's Voyagers's are keeping there value... Ps: (The Mk1 has an upgrade that brings same polyphonie as Mk2 and Iridium) ......................................................................................................................................................................................so is it worth it ? that's up to you to decide. Do you want to spend so much money on a big heavy 61 polyphonic keyboard (attached to your Iridium) that will take up space in your setup ? (Basicaly the same sound as Iridium) Is this synthesizer so central in your setup that it deserves to take up so much space (and money) The Quantum's hardware is a nice object with all the leds and screen and knobs but so is the Iridium. I must admit i did hesitate to sell it at one point, (being an analog fan) but for now the sounds i hear in this video makes me want to keep it. Cheers

AFAIK, videos with small number of views make nothing or hardly anything for their creators. If true, it's probably best to not get paid by YT and hope to get more views and grow your channel. Although the Quantum seems great, personally I'd want a chance to play one, for that kind of money, especially how good the analogue filters and aftertouch are, compared to say Iridium Core. @@bilonggrisimmeri thanks i'll check if i can do something in the settings... the only thing that interests me in doing videos is for myself and sharing with others, certainly not being paid. The Quantum's digital filters are in my opinion really good, the analog ones bring something subtil. In this video if you listen with headphones, that's realy how it sounds... One person commented that the difference was evident to him. I don't know if my ears are getting "old" but i find it subtil. I'm glad i have them but they are not fat like the Modal 002 or a little rough and squelchy like the Groove Synthesis 3rd wave.... This synth is now found second hand in my region down to 2000.- .
