I'm Libyan and I have been to the nice Dover, there is a hotel on the waterfront where I stayed three nights, it is an unforgettable memory in my life, the city is quiet and clean, I still remember the sounds of the gulls everywhere, when I take a rest in my room and keep the window open there was one gull visiting me each day. really I missed Dover and canterbury.

When McDonalds opened in 1988, it was a major event for the whole town. Before, you had to travel to Canterbury. Unbelievable that it has now closed. The High Street is dead but it's the same elsewhere, people shop online. Who would have thought Debenhams or BHS would go under? @ 2:08 WHSmith was newsagent Levells back in the 80s. @ 2:44 indeed it was Tescos before the supermarket moved to Whitfield in 1985. Currys was opposite and where I brought my first computer, an Atari 800 xl. @ 4:03 The Blue retail outlet. Do you Remember Spu U Like? If you were into potatoes, this was the place. Before the estate agent, you had Millets, an outdoor store. @ 5:59 Aspendo's in the Market Square was Buttery One and then Piazza run by the Capaldi family. Very popular with Duke of York kids. With a fountain inside. KFC used to be burger joint Wimpy. First work experience was at Barclays, in 1988. I am surprised how clean the place is. The problem is that even during the 80s, tourists from the ferries never stopped in Dover. Especially after the Jubilee Way linking the A2 was inaugurated in 1977....

I remember Tescos, and I think before Dixon’s, it would have been Curry’s. I’m not sure if I remember Levells or that it was a Newsagency because I used to work at Fourboys newsagents on pencester st, I don’t think it exists anymore. I used to live in the Dolphins House flats, so I remember Wimpy, and Elizabeth’s below.

I'd love to see another video of Dover now the lockdown is over, I lived there a long time ago, and to see Market Square almost deserted and so many shops empty was really quite depressing. Has it picked up since Freedom Day, or is Dover on its knees? But thank you for the vid in any case, Dover still has a place in my heart, if not in my geography. (I live in Australia now.)

Yes to miss Donald, but I had a male teacher for English. No to Sawh and Zelenchuk 🤷♀️. I had Mr Gummer for maths. Actually I think I had mr. Lewis for english. I had Mrs. Crane for history, miss Hibberd for P-E. Who was the music teacher, he loved classical music. Ahh just remembered the name of the deputy head, Strowbridge.
