@retire_recharge_roam Cool. I had to ask because you look like a teacher I had when I was in school in California. It isn't you, of course, but you guys look alike. Lol.

That food looks awesome! Obviously very similar to Thai food, which I love so so much. Do they eat 7 or 8 times a day like they do in Thailand? I was hanging out with several Thai girls in Bangkok, and these tiny little petite girls could out eat me by a long shot. It also seemed like if they weren't eating, they were taking a shower. I haven't been to Lao but I am sure I would love it.

Lao is definitely an eating culture…Lao people live to eat and socialize. Funny observation about showers. Since we moved here, I find myself taking ~ 3 showers a day! It’s so humid, that’s a nice way to cool off. Lao culture is very similar to Thai.

Do you speak the local language? How long it take to learn it? Is it a difficult language? Do you need to speak the local language to live there?

I understand and speak basic Lao. It’s a tonal language, and very different from English. After a year of immersion you can probably learn enough to get by, but I think it will take a lifetime to be totally proficient. You can get by in the major cities with English. It’s spoken less in the country side, but people are friendly and helpful, and you’ve always got google translate!
