I thought about that, but I don't think that is the reason. I still find this really weird. Mainly because fish is freely available, pretty much everywhere; yet, tuna is plentiful in cans. I'm thinking it's maybe something else entirely to be honest. If this was the reason, then it doesn't explain why pinto beans in tomato sauce (one can I see that isnt tuna) are imported from the US and up-charged to almost 10-12 soles.

@s34nTravels
Жыл бұрын
It's interesting. I'm not too sure though. I wonder if it's also because there isn't a canning facility nearby? Because the cans are usually imports and with added tax, it makes it too expensive for most things. Other countries enjoy eating fresh, but cans are available for those people who dont have the time/skill/ability to always cook or buy fresh. They are also good for roadtripping, quick meals with a long shelf life. Thats why I doubt that it's solely for this reason. If cans were available, I think people would buy them.
@nataliab.5591
Жыл бұрын
@s34nTravels
Жыл бұрын
@@nataliab.5591 When did that happen? Do you have a source? I would be interested to see! Generally: Many poor families buy canned foods in the UK as fresh foods are more expensive. Single men use them a lot too as they cannot cook 😆 and I see them a lot used by hikers, campers, trekkers and people like that. Carrying fresh food on a multi-day hiking trip isn't a great idea. I'm wondering what the alternative of those would be. (apart from the first, as I find fresh things much cheaper in Peru, which is great)
@nancyl7989
3 ай бұрын
@@s34nTravels I think is not only about cultural preferences, but also about the availability of fresh ingredients in the country. Agriculture in Peru is a very important activity that not only provides food to its population, but also for exports. There is a wide variety of fresh produce that makes cooking at home a lot more affordable than eating out at fast food restaurants. Peru doesn't need to rely on imported meats, fruits, or vegetables like other countries like the US. That's why poor people choose to cook at home to save money rather than eating canned or fast food, which are already processed and therefore, more expensive.

Good evening, I am writing this comment because some time ago someone told me what was the reason behind the short stature in a good part of the Peruvian population (being Peruvian). It is the result of an adaptation of the human body for the terrain that exists in the height of the country, the so-called “Cerros”, because people had to go up and down hills constantly, an activity that wears the human body a lot, the legs became shorter to facilitate this activity, but consequently low our average height.

@@faqks3359 I don’t think walking is the reason for being short… I think our genetics are the reason. But there’s a story about the Incas being taller than the Spanish conquers. Even if you go to Cuzco all the steps to go to the ruins are very high kind of hard to climb.

I did around an hour of research on the internet because I was curious.... People living at high elevations tend to be smaller, due to evolutionary adaptation (scarcity of food), same with the Nepalese for example. Scientists also found a gene variant in Peruvian people associated with height. There was also a study of people from Nepal which was found that the locals have high‐altitude genetic adaptation; making for easy living and climbing at high altitudes. It all makes sense really. Interesting stuff! (RE: comment below: The Spanish were actually taller on average, but not by much.)

There are lot french in Peru cause in France you graduate going to other places to study. Some of them go to southamerica because the mouth to mouth (parties, people, cheap stuffs, etc) and that Is the reason of creperies in Miraflores and the people like it. I was study in university with 30% frechies and was awesome to know other culture and other point of view in the classroom

Thank you! :) I have been to both places. They don't allow filming at the catacombs at San Francisco church in Lima, but I added a little bit in my Lima video... I didn't include it in my Miraflores video, you should check it out! The racetrack was fun, but im from the UK and we have those everywhere, so I didn't really think of doing a video here haha! thanks for watching! :)
