Here is my homage to the iconic Walking with Dinosaurs series! So much has improved in paleontology throughout these two decades, so many of the animals you see in this video might not seem to have had their place in the original BBC tv show. Dakotadon as the ¨American Iguanodon¨ or Australovenator as the ¨Polar Allosaurus¨are two of them. but can you relate the rest with their counterparts? As always please give this video a LIKE, subscribe for more and click they bell so you don't miss it! those little gestures help the channel. You can also join the Membership if you want to support the channel further. Thank you all! ps: I'm simultaneously still working of the ¨Antediluvian project¨ (you can take a little sneak peek in the intro) so it took a little longer to finish

Walking with Dinosaurs was actually my favourite documentary when I was small and it still is to this day. Even if the original dinosaur designs seem a bit out of date at this time, the entire docu itself tells a story of events that feel so natural on how these magnificent beings once roamed our land, it's just pure perfection I dare say it.

I can't wait to see your "Crystal Jurassic park", to see your ¨Antediluvian dinosaurs¨. it saddens me a little to think of all the modern corrections to "Walking with Dinosaurs" for example: postosuchus was not quadrupedal but bipedal, that anatotitan was a "nickname" for Edmontosaurus, that Cryptoclidus did not "rest"at the beach like the seals , that Liopleurodon was actually "only" 6 meters long and that Ornithocheirus was actually the Tropeognathus.

one flaw you have is the size of animals including dinosaurs is always determined by weight/mass, not length or height, unless the animals are the same weight, then is where you can apply length and height. so next time use weight and not length.

The real Ornithocheirus had a wingspan of only 2.5 meters and came from England. As for this specimen used in the documentary series, it was actually more of a Tropeognathus, but something in common is that the chronology of both pterosaurs is not 127 million years ago. And Tropeognathus had a wingspan of 5 meters (although it is said that the maximum was 8 meters) and was found in Brazil.

That was a Nostalgia Overload, an Updated Nostalgia Overload, this was Super Outstanding, WWD really Deserves this Loving Tribute, and as well as Some Amazing Updates on the Creatures, I wouldn't mind a Remake of WWD Tbh, or a Dinosaur Documentary with a similar Oof to it, some folks could say, what about Prehistoric Planet? Well, Prehistoric Planet is doing it's Own Thing, it's very different to WWD, Which is a Good Thing, and like WWD, it has Both its Strengths and Weaknesses like any Show/ Documentary, Furthermore I'm looking to what These Future Prehistoric Docs like Life on Our Planet, Surviving Earth and Forgotten Bloodlines: Agate (Narrated by Nigel Marven), that will hopefully do their Own Thing as well as Capture some Essence on what Made WWD and PP as Special as they were.

0:25 I have a problem with the lungfish's classification. Sarcopterygii is no longer considered a class but rather an unranked clade, because the traditional Sarcopterygii is paraphyletic, and modern taxonomists want to keep taxa as monophyletic. So now Dipnoi (which was previously treated as a subclass, and the scientific name for all lungfish), is now considered as a full blown class. The same thing happened with the coelacanth group called Actinistia, which has been reranked to class and not subclass.

I can't help but think, well to be honest have not stopped thinking since watching the closing credits of the making of, that we need a second Walking with Dinosaurs! I've heard Prehistoric planet touted as its spiritual sequel, but to me its apples and oranges, prehistoric planet is awesome but it's set up much differently- like a planet earth documentary and it does this excellently. I really loved the full episode focus on each ecosystem and a story within that, in a series set throughout the mesozoic. Along with those immersive moments where the camera was moving between the trees, etc to better capture the action, or avoid getting tangled up in it. Really gives you the sense you're walking with dinosaurs when the cameraman is ducking behind some branches to avoid getting caught up in some tyrannosaur domestic.
@ThePalaeontologist
Жыл бұрын
Walking With Dinosaurs (1999) is the primary reason I became a palaeontologist. It wasn't just that, but it was the focusing lens and golden time, so to speak, which encapsulated all of my Dinosaur and other prehistory enthusiasm in the 1990's. There were, of course, other things - like Jurassic Park and The Land Before Time, and all sorts of standalone documentaries and other series. But Walking With Dinosaurs was what completely stole the show for me. It's professional attempts to recreate lost worlds, with the glory of the natural history drama, trying it's best. Yes, it's heavily out of date now on the science and was wrong on a lot even back then. All the same, it spurred on the conversation about how these programmes are even made and it was incredible. I have long meant to make a granular, in-depth review of WWD and the rest of the Walking With... series. I've been drafting my version of Walking With Dinosaurs II for a few years at this point. I've been trying my level best to do that solo and it is genuinely very difficult and involves a huge amount of research and reading. But I'm slowly working my way through the long list of episode titles I have made for it. I hope I finish it before I'm too old.

I know Walking with Dinosaurs will never return, but I hope we get a series with a similar premise and good visuals in the future. Prehistoric Planet is great, but not quite the same as WWD. Loved the video, the Pliosaurus coming after the Eustreptospondylus referencing the famous opening scene of Cruel Sea and the accurate depiction of the Utahraptor complaining about the animators from the making-of were absolutely wonderful. Hope at some point you get to do the same with the rest of the franchise.
