Sounds like fun. Norway and Sweden seem very expensive too. Lots of big fish though, always fancied trying to catch one of the big Alta ones.

@@scottishoutdoorlife The cost of fishing in Alta is like another planet. You have some good fishing far up north in Sweden for big salmon which is not so expensive. You need to have good contact with local people though to get to the right spots. I have never been there my self. I think Scottland is a paradise for salmon fishing with all your beautiful rivers and landscape.

It's a cracking beat, end of June onwards is the best. I've fished it since I was ten. I think it's my favourite on the Tay. 👍

Great video as always sir. What a beautiful river. I would love to fish Scotland this season. Never been but it's on my "wish to go" list. Is a Tay expensive? Here in N Ireland rivers are a bit smaller and at the minute they are on the low side. Need rain badly🤔

If you get a chance you should definitely come over. From now on it's around 100-150 pounds a rod a day. If your thinking of doing it message me and I'll keep you right with where to go.

Can I ask why solely the single spey? Do you ever snap t on river left?

Hi Rex I fish a Rio long head spey line, it's got a 75ft head on it. A single spey cast is the most effective cast for distance certainly with a spey line. Most pools on the lower Tay where I fish generally the longer you can cast neatly the better. I was fishing a pool tonight and my 40 to 50 yard cast just wasn't far enough I really needed about 80 yards to cover the fish properly. I have very little experience with shooting heads not sure if it's the same with them. Anytime I have used one the single spey seemed to work OK with it. What set up do you use yourself.

@@scottishoutdoorlife I’d value something I can shoot more than 50 yards, I guess that’s a disadvantage of the current setup. I’m on a 6wt 12ft6, Airflo Scout Head, they’re REAL short for turning over heavy flies. Paired with a Duchess reel. But I’d say I need to get myself something in the 14/15ft range to give it a try. Few rivers in my neck that’d be a blast to cover more water with.

Yeah give it a go. I don't have expensive gear. My rods a twenty year old Bruce and Walker Norway 15ft and I replaced my 20 year old line last year with that rio. 👍

Don’t want to rain on your parade Ian but having a posh rod and no net is not cool at all, get a net and stop beaching fish if you are returning them, if your killing them ok, but not if they are going back. There will be some damage beaching a fish that may not be obvious, please stop doing it.

Evening David, I personally wouldn't call a second hand Bruce and Walker Norway bought off a friend over fifteen years ago for £150 posh. I know everyone has differing opinions on beaching fish I personally don't think it does them any harm. I've witnessed first hand and seen many videos on you tube and the web of salmon hitting rocks and running over gravel bars travelling upstream and not just when jumping waterfalls. I think it's more important to keep them in the water and ensure they are sufficiently recovered before they are released. Granted as with this video not every release is perfect but the majority of fish you'll see me release swim off strongly. I do own a net it was in the back of my truck through choice when I filmed the video. I use it when I'm wading a long way out to places. Unfortunately some places I wade through, down and to it's so fast a deep with big rocks a net becomes a safety issue in my opinion. I respect your opinion but we'll have to differ on this subject. I'm on Facebook and if you have any substantiated scientific evidence of what touching a few rocks does to a fish the please pm me, I'd be keen to read it. 👍
