I love the way you use and re-use wood. Besides the economy and "limited resource" angles, I've found there is just a feeling I got from efficiency and doing something in "the most right way" that I walk away feeling proud that I accomplished more than just the minimum. That stuff adds up over the years and makes "work" into something that makes one feel good too.

This came out beautifully! I love that you decided to go with dovetails and that you assembled it so it is a continuous grain pattern. I'm really tired of watching shop projects that are slapped together because "it's just shop furniture". Especially for newbies, and especially disappointing to those who have been woodworking for some time. How else will they get practice to master dovetails or another joinery method? On a commissioned walnut credenza? I sure as heck wouldn't want to screw up a possible $2000.00 piece of furniture that I took on without enough practice. Your shop is the perfect place to practice different looks or new joinery methods. I'm redoing the layout of my shop to get ready for an addition in the fall, so I will need much more cabinets, drawers, and work surfaces and will be trying out some Japanese joinery methods that I am learning about. I challenge myself every couple of months (or longer if needed), to learn and master a new joinery method and I am fascinated with the intricacy of Japanese woodworking. Probably the most difficult and challenging I've tried so far. So, fellow woodworkers, challenge yourselves to something new every once in awhile!

Very nice job on the cabinet! Btw don't be bullied into calling your planer a thicknesser. Any number of tools in your shop such as your table saw, band saw, even your saw mill will create boards of certain thickness. Your planer on the other hand is the only tool that will create a board that has surfaces that are coplanar to each other....yes it does change the thickness in the process but it isn't the designed function of the machine.

Nice little cabinet. I had a question related to mounting on a block wall. You used lag shields to mount to your wall. Do you know how those are compared to tap con screws? I have block walls in my shop as well. I'm working on designing a cleat system for the perimeter and I'm wondering what is the best way to do that? I have a tool wall board frame that I'm going to mount to the wall and I'm trying to figure out the best method that will hold the weight of a 30x60 T-111 ply wrapped in 3 inch oak trim full of tools to the wall.
@mcremona
4 жыл бұрын
They technically have a higher weight capacity but the main feature is they're less fussy. It's pretty easy to drill the tapcon pilot too large and tapcons really shouldn't be reused so if you need to take the screw out, you should throw it out and use a new one.
