Thank you for the video explanation just purchased the DWU and SHP2 and was wondering the key differences of the two. Looks like I went with the right system. Now just to get SHP2 installed and do some testing. Thx EcoFlow amazing products!

If you already have a generator plug and interlock in place for gas generators, Delta Pro Ultra is a no-brainer and cost-effective option to the Powerwall. But, Tesla Solar+Powerwall is a difficult competition. The integration, ease of use after install, and on-grid features are the ultimate solutions.

Great system, but problem is that it isn't eligible for net metering (in my state of CT).

It's not eligible for that in any state. It doesn't feed power back to the grid.

Is an ecoflow compatible with the tesla gateway? I already have a 12kW PV line-tapped net metering only system. Im curious if that can be reconfigured to pipe my 2x DC PV strings into an ecoflow? And if it can then also interact with a tesla gateway which i intend to let my CyberTruck interface with.

That's the same question that I have. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there, the 12kW system can not be chained to the Ultra directly. The maximum the Ultra can take is 5600W. Also, the Ultra does not support interacting with the Tesla gateway currently.

Good overall video. As a DPU/SHP2 owner who also is familiar with Tesla (Solar panels and cars), I can say that the description is factual and ecoflow with the SHP2 has a good product. However the video skips over many of the shortcomings, and in particular doesn't mention solar panels and how the DPU/SHP2 deals with low or high voltage arrays. The app in particular will limit the use of said panels. One key example, you don't have a way to set a grid vs solar target charge. The ToU algorithm is not optimal, especially if you have off-peak/mid-peak and on-peak tiers, instead of charging off-peak it will wait to top the batteries just before on-peak, forcing a lot of your energy usage during mid-peak... Aka from an app and SW standpoint, Tesla is still ahead.

So how exactly does the DPU/SHP2 deal with the low/high voltage arrays that you don't like and how does the app limit the use of that solar charging? My understanding is that you have 4000W+1600W=5600W total solar charging no matter if you are using the SHP2 or not.

@@TheNature101 You do on the charging side and I tested both. The challenge is the orchestration. If you are using DPU/SHP2 as a means to optimize ToU (Time of Use), you want to charge your batteries during off-peak and top your batteries with solar during the day prior to on-peak. The challenge is the app only has a "max battery charge" that you can set between 80% and 100%. Scheduled tasks can only "charge" or "discharge" batteries. So if you schedule a "battery charging" event during off-peak, it will charge your batteries to max %. Your batteries will lose energy during the day (this is another topic), but let's assume that you are charged to max and remain at max until your scheduled "battery discharging" to keep your house on batteries during on-peak hours. The problem is that your DPUs will not take any solar energy, because they are already at max configured capacity. Ecoflow DPU/SHP2 is lacking a "charge battery to X%" where X is not the max charging limit. Or a "battery charging on solar" task (aka not using the grid). In absence of the above, my current manual workaround has been to set max charging to 70% at night, prior to charging my batteries using grid off-peak electricity. Then in the morning I configure the max charge to 100%, which allows my panels to top the batteries. The ToU mode attempts to do that, but the algorithm is less than optimal and trigger grid charging at time that one cannot control (so if you have other heavy loads, like charging your EV at night, it is far from optimal). The last firmware upgrades for DPU and SHP2 are more than a month old. We need better velocity on fixing bugs and adding features.

Ironically, the Tesla Cybertruck my be more of an interesting comparison in some use cases. It stores 123kWh of energy, outputs 11.5kWh with 240V support, can recharge at Level 3 speeds, and is also completely mobile.

Add the Tesla gateway and powershare and you have a full backup solution with your Powerwall. But if you don't have a reservation and $100k to spend, it is not going to help you for the next outage ;)
