The irony of the Occupy Wall Street movement was that Wall Street was no longer there, which the protesters didn't understand. What are the top reasons to leave NY state or NYC (Not Your City)? Leaving New York State can be influenced by various factors. Here are the top reasons people might choose to leave: High Cost of Living: New York, especially New York City, is known for its high cost of living. This includes expensive housing, groceries, utilities, and transportation. High Taxes: New York State has some of the highest taxes in the country, including income tax, property tax, and sales tax, which can be a financial burden for residents. Harsh Weather: The state's cold winters, especially in upstate regions, can be challenging. Heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures are common and can be a significant factor for those seeking milder climates. Traffic and Commute: In urban areas like NYC, traffic congestion and long commutes can be stressful and time-consuming, impacting quality of life. Crime Rates: While crime rates have generally decreased, certain areas still experience higher crime levels, which can be a concern for residents. Job Market: While NYC is a hub for certain industries, other parts of the state might not offer as many job opportunities, especially in specialized fields. Quality of Public Services: Issues with public services, such as public transportation delays, school quality in certain districts, and other municipal services, can be a reason for dissatisfaction. High Property Prices: Real estate in New York, particularly in NYC, can be prohibitively expensive, making it difficult for individuals and families to afford homes. Healthcare Costs: While the state has excellent medical facilities, the cost of healthcare can be high, adding to the financial strain. “Please pay attention to what Governor Hochul does or does not do for New York. Her actions will tell you everything you need to know.” Actions speak louder than her words. Is NY a better place to live since 4 years ago?

@donscott2681

@@dg1006 Landlocked isn't the word I needed, but such a word doesn't exist. You know what I meant. Miami CANNOT GROW. Dallas can grow hundreds of miles in all directions. I grew up there as a kid and McKinney was a distant small town many people had never heard of. Now it's an exurb of Dallas. This means that the cost of living will never be insane. Roads and infrastructure are expensive in Dallas because they build them with concrete instead of the crappy asphalt used elsewhere. But the local govt is reasonable and there are no major problems beyond a bit of creeping progressivism. So, reserve your retorts for when you can make a germane point rather than a pedantic jab.

The trading pits of old, with crowds of screaming guys in colorful jackets, were superseded by electronic trading. With modern network speeds, there's no longer any reason why the servers need to be in NYC at all. It's more secure to have servers in multiple locations anyway, to reduce the risk of localized disasters (whether natural or man-made). New York City is in the same situation as Chicago with their commodity exchanges. There's simply no justification for making employees commute into, or live in, these places that are no longer safe.
