Lake Wallenpaupack is a big part of recreational life in the Pocono Mountains. A hundred years ago this summer, the construction of the Dam on the Wallenpaupack River formed Lake Wallenpaupack. Several men died while building the dam, some under mysterious circumstances. To create Lake Wallenpaupack, communities were demolished, cemeteries moved, schoolhouses razed, and Native American burial grounds were all submerged under the new lake. Join us as we explore the construction of the Wallenpaupack Dam project.
March is Women's History month and we take a look at the news making headlines in 1925 which read "A Town That Is Run by Women". The story made national news that summer and was unheard of in the Untied States at the time. The Pocono Town that created National Headlines was Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania, where in 1925, almost every business was run by women. Hotels, restaurants, butcher shops, cigar stores, clothing stores, movie theater, taxis, tour services, Post Office, milk and mail delivery routes and more. We salute the women of 1925, who were decades ahead of their time in the United States.
