Too bad they retired him when they did. I'm sure he would have been impressive covering the Challenger explosion and 9/11, among other notable stories in his later years

"Vice President Johnson *clears throat* has left the hospital..." That's where you'd feel the emotion of the JFK assassination... even the emotion of the event can get to someone as strong as an anchor like Walter.

My dad used to watch him every night since I was a baby. When I think of Walter, I see my dad eating his dinner in front of the tv. Good memories
