I’m not a gun snob either, but the fact is, The PPQ is everything the Glock guys try to achieve with the all the money they spend on them to make them comfortable and in some, work.

Highly underrated gun... better than all my other guns hands down. I used to only hit 60% of my shiots now its almost 100%. Everything about it is amazing! And that Grip! WOW! The slider racks flawlessly and easily and the slide release actually works with minimal effort. I already traded in one of my other guns for a 2nd one of these.

A couple years back I was looking into buying my first handgun after police academy and practiced at the range with my martial arts instructor. He had a compact pistol that I didn't like very much but had a contrasting weight and recoil. However, he also had a PPQ M1 and I was mainly fascinated by the paddle mag release. With a few tens of hours training with the Glock 17, it will always feel like a solid option (edit: despite now that I think about it I seem to remember experiencing every possible safe malfunction)... but I am very happy I decided to buy my own Walther PPQ m2. I settled for the glock-style mag release, and I'm glad it was an option or I might have gone for some other gun and missed out on all my future comparisons. Every time I've been to the range since, I naturally excel with the PPQ and it's got to be something to do with the weight distribution and recoil. When I shoot it, it naturally teardrops back to where I can aim down the sights back on target. It flows like water for me. Speaking of which, the way I hold other guns is just wrong. I cause jams and stove-pipes and unseat the magazine all the time. Yet with the PPQ, I just never have any problems.

This must be the best Walther PPQ review I have ever seen. Not only the reviewer provided the information with plenty of evidence (6,000 rounds), but also with an honest, non biased, point of view hard to debate. In terms of the gun, comparing the PPQ with the 'daddy' P99 and later to the more pricing competition was more than common sense, but based on actual facts coming from experience and the up and downs of the companies making them. Other than some 'f's' in the vernacular, this was super-informative and reminded me of getting one for myself after being naive enough for selling my 9mm. Great job!!!

@@markramsay100 I really don't understand the point of a pistol that is too big to conceal, other than a range toy. You're either defending your home with your rifle, or you're out and concealing a compact pistol. @@thegunpenguin Absolutely. I manage a gun store, and NONE of the employees ever recommend/talk about the Walthers we have. I however, own the PPQ M2 and the PPQ M2 Navy. Why? Because they are excellent out of the box. I recommend them, but people are mostly wanting Glocks. Another reason why Walthers aren’t mega popular, is because there aren’t any Walthers in any rap videos or movies. Being honest, a lot of people seek to purchase the guns they hear about in songs and/or see in movies.

During any review, when people start crying about bore axis, I stop watching. Like you mentioned, the vast majority of us absolutely will not notice the "felt recoil" difference. The Dutch police adopted the Walther P99Q in 2013, to replace the Walther P5. They preferred it above the SIG, which they felt was less reliable. The Dutch military police preferred the Glock 17, to remain in sync with the military. I do only airsoft. I recently bought a Walther PPQ gas blow-back. Before that, I only had a bunch of Desert Eagle GBB pistols. The Walther is the perfect companion as a handgun. It feels great, even in my rather large hands. When I'm going out for an airsoft-skirm in the woods, I now prefer the Walther above one of my Deagles, as the weight is so much more comfortable, especially the mags. Having to carry a DMR of about 10 pounds, combined with mags and a camel-bag with a gallon of water, weight becomes an issue. I started to love this little Walther, although it's just a replica. It simply feels so fine.

I almost bought this firearm. I decided to go with the SIG P320 Compact in .45 ACP (I love it), I have since converted it to .357 SIG.Then I almost bought this pistol again, but I went with a Glock 21. To be honest, I love the Walther, but I just got such a great deal on my (new) Glock 21. It was actually a Gen 3 that was made in 2019 (it apparently was going to be bought by a police officer). All the paper work was from 2019 and it was indeed a 2019 made Gen 3. Anyway, it came with 3 magazines and night sights for $565. I couldn’t pass it up.

great review.. My PPQ M1 is by far my most carried pistol. I carry it probably 85% of the time. I am hoping they release the PPQ SC in the M1 variant so i can sell my S&W Shield and buy that and then those would be my only 2 carry guns. The PPQ has to be held to be appreciated. It was on my list of guns to look at when i turned 21, and then once i got to the PPQ my search ended right then and there and i didn't even look at the rest of the guns on my list. The PPQ just fits in the hand better than any other guns i have handled even to this day.

This was an excellent video. I truly enjoy your videos, and this one is one of my favs. I am a retired police officer and currently a manager of a gun shop/range. I own most HK pistols that are on the market, as well as many Glocks, but my Glock collection is slowly diminishing. Still like my 19X though. That being said, I bought the PPQ Navy a while back, and really loved it. So much so, that I bought another PPQ M2 just because. I prefer the trigger on the PPQ over the VP9 and certainly over the Glock. I sold my CZ P10c, and that trigger was nice too, although I swapped it for an HBI trigger. My Glocks now all have Apex triggers, but the PPQ’s I own, will remain stock. My only issue which is not really an issue with the gun itself, is that it is a bit more challenging to find good holsters (IWB/OWB). If you know of any, please let me know. Anyways, I truly enjoyed this video. Thanks and be safe!

I agree with your final recommendations for the PPQ. I have made the same exact recommendations to Walther on the Walther forums. Of course they never listen, and they seem to be getting further and further away from what we asked for. No paddles in sight besides on the new P380 which of course is really not a Walther at all. Also the idea that they would ever pony up and redesign the whole platform to finally deliver a lower bore axis version will be a pipe dream for guys like us forever. Maybe it's time to do what Canik did and take the best of the PPQ and put it into a clone gun with improvements (like the MC9 tried to do but failed).

Best PPQ review of all time! Nicely done. You didn’t call the Anti-Stress trigger on P99” double action” which everyone seems to do, and you nailed it on bore axis complaints. Larry Vickers has recently got behind the PPQ, which should help it gain more popularity. I bought P99Compact AS in 9mm used but LNIB a couple weeks ago to go along with my PPQ Subcompact. I like how double stack subcompacts can transition and shoot. I like the design of CCP (M2 doesn’t require a takedown tool lol). Same as HK P7 but agreed that is poor quality. Umarex owns Walther so they kinda hijack the Walther banner for doodoo. A single stack PPQ (PPQ version of G43X) would be sick. And I think they should put the AS trigger on PPS. Curious to see how well Q4 Steel frame shoots. Again, outstanding review.

I own the Walther PPQ M1 version with a Walther custom colored 5 in bronze barrel and slide Cuts in the top of the slide. This was a special option from Walter just for gun buyer dot-com. In Florida. It is very accurate and fun to shoot. You can see twin versions of this PPQ in the Underworld series with Kate Beckinsale firing fully automatic versions of it. I also wish that all handguns had the paddle magazine release option. I have come to really love that option. It is faster than the push button option Americans usually use. And you do not have to reposition your hand on the grip to drop the magazine.

I turned down a H&K P30 Light LEM for a Walther PPQ Q4 Tac M1. I’m sure my 14 other HK’s were pissed but I’m extremely happy! This Q4 is miles ahead of my VP9 Tactical! It’s amazing I love carrying it OWB & IWB it’s so thin and fits my hands perfectly and that trigger is fantastic! This thing is only a half oz heavier then your non threaded model. Also idk if this will help many people but I found my Safariland Holsters for my P30’s and P30L’s actually fit the Walther PPQ perfectly!! If you use a P30L Holster with the Q4 Tac The threaded barrel is perfectly flush with the business end of the holster. That I find awesome! I added a C&H Precision Optic plate with the rear sight built in and a Trijicon RMR Type 2! Mine is a German Date Code “CB” so that makes it a 2021 model and I notice where yours says “Read Instruction Manual”. Mine says “Warnhinweise Beachten” which translates to “Observe warning notices” So this leads me to believe that maybe this is something new the PPQ’s are doing or maybe it’s because mine is a M1... I have no idea but I thought that bit of info was interesting. Even during these trying times with ammo I still ran 500 rounds thru my Q4 TAC M1 and the trigger just continued to get better. I will note I found a little grittiness where the trigger bar rubs on the right side of the frame. I solved this issue very quickly and effortlessly by taking a little sheet of 1200 Grit sand paper and placing it between the trigger bar and the frame and just working the trigger about 20-30 times. It sanded itself smooth and now it’s even more slick when getting to the wall! I won’t lie the first day I got this PPQ I was so excited to shoot it but my range was closed. So at midnight the same day I decided “HELL WITH IT” I’ll go night shooting in the sticks and that’s exactly what I did!!! I was having so much fun plinking steel with a X300U mounted on it that when the mag was dried up and locked back I thought I had experienced a malfunction 🤣 God I love this pistol! And btw you rock! I got the subcompact PPQ M2 a few months ago and I love it. I'm going to carry it when I get my CCW. A guy won it at a dinner and didn't want it so the LGS sold it to me for $10 over cost since I'd been eyeballing one for a while.

Great review, probably one of the best on the PPQ I've seen! Appreciate your integrity in only addressing your experience and in putting a common sense spin on the bore access issue. May I ask what sights you've replaced yours with (looks like Trijicons) and what holster you are using?
@thegunpenguin
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it! My new sights are Trijicon HDs, and I love them. I slightly prefer the HD XRs, but they don't yet make them for the Walthers. I'll keep pestering them. I've got a set of Bright and Toughs on another Walther, I think my P99, and they're nice, but not as quick to acquire as the HDs. As for holsters, both for the range, and really any other application, I like the options from ANR. Generally Safariland is my preference, because I like the retention system. For other applications, I like the Bladetechs because they're cheap. But ANR makes a very good holster for almost every gun in every configuration, and I can attach the OWB ones, some of them, to my Safariland QLS thingy. Great stuff!

I have two ppq M2’s, a 5” target 9mm and 4.25” 40s&w. I absolutely love both guns and they shoot extremely well. Can’t go wrong with a ppq, but they do have slightly more muzzle flip than say a comparable Glock.
@thegunpenguin
4 жыл бұрын
As I say, they certainly have a little more flippety-flip, but thus is the price of pointability. And we're talking minute subtleties that most folks will never feel. It's hardly the catastrophe that it's made out to be. The 5" target model is super cool!
@protectiverailroaddad7541
4 жыл бұрын
thegunpenguin yeah of course you’ll have people complain about something to the point they’ve made a party balloon into a hot air ballon. The 9mm ppq’s are hardly noticeable to me to be “flippy”, but when I take my ppq 40 and g23 out to shoot together there is a difference and it’s noticeable. It’s so noticeable my wife and kids don’t like shooting my ppq in 40 but are ok with the g23. They love the 5” ppq even more than my cz’s. Even the 40 is very manageable to me, but any man saying a 9mm ppq flips too much needs to grow a pair.
@thegunpenguin
4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps .40 enhances this? I find .40 to flip unreasonably in a Glock, so I'm sure it's quite unpleasant in anything with a higher bore axis.
@protectiverailroaddad7541
4 жыл бұрын
thegunpenguin the only Glock I don’t like in 40 is the g27. The g23 was one of my first gun purchases like 17 years ago. Flips more than a g19, yeah sure. But grab a ppq 9mm and ppq 40 and see the difference. Much more pronounced. This is one of the reasons we won’t see a ppq or p320 in 10mm. Also compare a Glock 21 and ppq 45, see the difference there also
@thegunpenguin
4 жыл бұрын
I've found the .45 PPQ to be very mild, and certainly comparable to a 21. But I've found .40 and 10mm to certainly bring out different qualities in firearms than other rounds. Though I have quite a bit of experience with the various .40 Glocks, I'll have to defer to your experience regarding the PPQ in .40.

I don't think any sort of divine power is at work here, but you can't go wrong with either the G19 or the PPQ for your first gun. Those are the two that I mostly highly recommend to folks; both are a pleasure to use, and will run forever. If you do go with the Glock 19, I'd recommend the gen. 5 with the front serrations, preferably the MOS. Either way, you win.

Man! You're really great at this. 👏👏👏 You must be at something like 10k+ rounds through it now?! Seriously though - awesome review. I've owned my PPQ M2 for just about 10-12 months (as of 12.20). I love the pistol and I especially like that it's a little different than what you see out there. I'm always a fan of zigging when everyone is zagging. I hear you about the ergonomics. Being short with short thick hands, I assumed the smallest backstrap would be the best for me. Like most of the reviews I've seen, the medium one, the one it comes with, is my favorite. Heck, I like the thickest one as a close 2nd. The only malfunction I've ever had with it was purely a result of shitty ammo in the first 500 rounds. I will probably get a Shield for my next carry as I'm a short guy and need something more compact. My current is the micro Ruger LCP2 . 380. You totally forget it's there and despite what some may think - I think it's a powerful enough round for a close-in encounter. But yep, these PPQ M2s are just so damn comfy in the hand. I try to restrain myself from running it all day at the range as I want to give the others (revolvers too!) a good run-through. Love the PPQ! Fun video filled with great content. Thanks! Edit--But wait, there's more! You're so right about reviewers not running what they're reviewing for a long time. It's exactly the same as when Motor Trend chooses their car and truck of the year. First impressions can be great, but have zero to do with long term performance. Nice, or even great, off the showroom floor is one thing, but how many malfunctions occur over the long haul. Being stranded in a truck with all the fancy doo-dads doesn't do d~ck for you. What's worse? A catastrophic failure of your pistol while you're on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck to take your $90k POS. Okay, I exaggerate! I just have never been one to run with the crowd just 'because' (aka Glock), especially when there are better options out there (Ala PPQ). Only upgrade I'm planning is Talon granular grips because Texas summers are hot AF and I want max grip. I especially miss having stippling in the thumb spots of the PPQ. Paul in Texas

Hey Paul, thank you so much both for the kind words, and for taking the time to share your thoughts! The PPQ is a modern classic. I wish Walther hadn't sullied their reputation with those Umarex guns. A few weeks ago, an acquaintance said, "I bought a PPQ!" And I was very happy for him! Then he says, "Yeah, it's so cool! It's the .22!" I thought, "Oh hell, how do I break it to him?" They really need to stick to making the Pxx-series guns; as you say, they're among the best of the best, on par with Glock, HK, and Beretta. I wish I was at 10k documented rounds! The pandemic has forced me to shoot other calibers, mostly 9x18, 12 guage, 7.62x39, and .32 ACP. A lot of Makarov and 32 this summer. But, my PPQ has had far more than 6k rounds through it; that's just what I wrote down. I owned this gun for a while before I started this channel and kept record. At the time, it was the only 9mm pistol I had, and it was shot often. Its true round count is at least 10k, but more likely between 12 and 14.

@@thegunpenguin yep, ammo prices are crazy. I've got plenty, but I I've had to pay a fortune for it. Yep, I'm in agreement with you on the separation of the 'P' series from the rest. Also, guy who works at Walther posted a video on IG of a P99 “M2”. He took trigger assembly and fire control group from P99 AS and put it inside a PPQ M2 frame. Guess that’s kinda the opposite of what you want, and I agree, I think the P99 9mm slide design with PPQ serrations would be sick. Part of me wants them to make a new slide design with lower bore axis and part of me doesn’t want them to give any credence to high bore axis hype. The PPQ SC slide design might give pause at first but after 4500 rds and a ton of dryfiring, it has held up very well (zero malfunctions). The firing pin has two springs but the extractor is designed in such a way that it can’t be knocked out of whack. It can be reassembled incorrectly after taking striker out but it won’t allow a round to be chambered so it’s noticed immediately. I LOVE PPQ SC
@thegunpenguin

I don't remember exactly what I said in the video, but I probably misspoke -- that's exactly what I want. The PPQ frame and slide, but with the P99's slide internals, mostly the decocker and the striker hole. They really ought to release that gun; the P99's mechanism is so genuinely inventive, it deserve another chance at life.
