"I wish I could pause everything in my life and go catch up ... just go spend the next 4-5 months, read this thing nonstop and go catch up". I did the entire series front to back (to the end of volume 9 at the time) in 3 months of nonstop reading last year! It's wild to think that this channel is how I found The Wandering Inn in the first place. Take the plunge! Catch up!

I remember back when the Laken chapters were being written, and then the Flos chapters and then the "too many" side character complaints at that time....and all I have to say is that those people felt so lost later on because they were skipping chapters. When things converge and you don't know the importance of these characters or their achievements or their personalities, you don't get to enjoy the convergence as much. Read everything, it's all important, no matter how unimportant it feels or how much you may dislike certain PoV. It's absolutely worth it.

Matt as someone who loves all the same audio book narrators as you do, an easy to fit more of this series into your schedule is the audio books. Andrea Parsneau does an excellent job of narrating / performing this series. It can't be said enough, how amazing of a job she does on voicing all the different species in this series.

Andrea's soothing voice is able to elevate a bad novel to okay Binding words), an okay book to good (azarinth healer), and a good book to great (Gravesong). Great books like Twi are elevated to masterworks.

I recently caught up with the webnovel and after taking almost 2 months to be able to really get into any other book (that wasn't ascendance of a bookworm) - this was the mother of all book hangovers lol. Something that really surprised me when I did start reading other authors is just how good Pirate's prose writing has become. Like you I read the early volumes and decided that her writing was serviceable but nothing remarkable. Pirate still isn't a joe abercrombie but they are better at this aspect of writing than many traditionally published authors now. Twelve million word of practice makes you better at your craft - who would have thought !? :)

K cha becomes fun when new povs are explored in these chs. Also chandrar wil only explode qhen all pieces are on the board. You only know one big piece called Flos, just remember, It will take a while before pirate setsup the board Book 7, 8 and 9 are almost written like a triology , suggested reading pace is to read with a gap of one moblnth betwen books After book 9 you can revert back to longer breakes or whatever suits your pace as you will come to understand how the world will function post book 9

I have absolutely ADORED this series, and I think about it constantly when I'm reading other things - so it's easy to come back to, and I have never felt lost. I thank you SO MUCH for encouraging me to dive into this. It may be my all-time favorite series. I sincerely hope that it continues for years to come!

The earth stuff impacting the world did rub me the wrong way at times, but the more I've read the more that it's feeling like it's following in the tradition of Pratchett's Discworld - juxtaposing fantasy and modern traditions or technology to create comedy. It feels inspired but not imitative and I think it really earns it. A lot of the things which annoyed me at first, as the author has committed to them and kept coming back to them, have begun to feel more organic, which is one of the things that impresses me most about the series; committing to risks in the storytelling and putting in the effort and skill to have them pay off.

Great to see you enjoying the story so far, you are going to enjoy it even more now that what can be called the ''prologue' part of the story is basically over. TWI is only really getting started, you wouldn't believe what lies ahead.

The world building is so insane-- it could easily be three times as long and it still wouldn't be long enough. The author just doesn't have time to write all the parts of the story that deserve to be written. And the next incredible thing about TWI is that it somehow keeps escalating and escalating and escalating without jumping the shark, or losing the point, or becoming unrelatable. You've just dipped your toe into the pool. A pool of face eater moths, maybe, but still a pool.

Unfortunately for you, The King of Destruction never really gets the story you are looking for. He will get some screen time with great moments. He will also get a personality tweek in the later volumes that makes him a little more bearable for those of us who don't like him. Lots of Laken and Flos coming up but no plot advancement just small adventures where you get to know them and their supporting cast better.

Well, if he specifically wants a story about the slow conquest of all of Chandrar, then yeah no he won't. But if what he's enjoying is the politics of it all, which I think is the case, I think he'll have a pretty good time down the line as we learn more and more about all the surrounding countries.
