I recommend Credo: Compendium of the Catholic Faith by Bishop Athanasius Schneider published by Sophia Institute Press. It is a very readable catechism in a Q & A format that, while being grounded in the timeless truths of our faith, directly addresses some modern issues we face here in 2024.

From what I've heard, Credo apparently contains errant content
@FeinARC
Ай бұрын
@@Altare_Dei It has an imprimatur from Bishop Libasci and has many endorsements from other bishops and cardinals such as Cardinal Robert Sarah. The only criticisms I've heard on Credo all came for laypeople with certain political agendas. I'd be happy to have you point out where any bishop or cardinal has claimed it is errant, as it's possible I have missed such claims.

@@Altare_Dei as i read it, it just says what the Faith teaches, but more on the traditional manner. Another I can reccomend is the Apostle's Creed by the Sons of Holy Mary Immaculate, Philippines

@@FeinARC I personally don't know enough about it myself, but I've heard some say it's errant. None of them were clerics, but some of them are theologically educated

Universalis is excellent, really helpful for finding your way around the Divine Office / LOTH. I've had it for about 6 years and it's on several devices. Money well spent. Noticed today that they have a preview of the ESV-CE Mass Readings starting this Advent, if you go to 1st Dec 2024 on the Calendar. You might have to change location or Calendar if in the US. That's another thing I love about it, it has local Calendar options. Learned quite a lot about my own diocese using it.

Thanks for the heads up. The ESV-CE should be interesting to hear in church

@@ConvincedCatholicism I've heard there will be some minor changes in the Lectionary Readings like, "Hail, full of grace", instead of, "Greetings, O favoured one". Here's hoping.

Great video and recommendations. When I started looking into catholicism, I started reading the catechism (as well as other books) and once I had finished it, I scheduled a meeting with a priest to discuss. Attending mass or seeing if an rcia group is starting at a nearby parish is another great way to start learning about Catholicism.

I'm going through OCIA, formally RCIA, and it is a lot different from my protestant background. I am interested, but roadblocks like some of Marian dogmas stand in my way. Pray for Me.

As a recently reverted Catholic from Ireland and residing there, I am searching for the perfect prayer book. I need a comprehensive resource including standard prayers (Our Father, Hail Mary, Apostles Creed, Glory Be) and devotions like the Anima Christi, prayer to the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit, the Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Padre Pio), prayer to Sleeping St. Joseph, and prayer to St. Brigid. I've seen recommendations for the Handbook of Prayers by James Socias, Manual of Prayers by Midwest Theological Forum, and Catholic Book of Prayers by Maurus Fitzgerald. Has anyone used these or can suggest alternatives? I prioritize a book with the Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat that aligns with contemporary Catholic prayer practices. Any suggestions are welcome!

No, I don't want to become more Catholic. I want to become more Christlike as God states it: Philippians 3; Romans 8:29; 1 John 3:2, 3. It's not about being in the right club. It's all about being like Jesus, period!
