"Luck" is definitely a part of this game. Yea, we're self-made in some respects, but we got an *opportunity* to showcase and develop. It's weird to feel "chosen", because we didn't do anything for it. Like, I didn't "rise and grind" for this, but I got it; Success. But to keep it, I gotta go get it, and to get it, I gotta want it, and to want it, I gotta go get it, and to go get it, I gotta want it, and to-

Demondice is back and already spitting fire! Hope you're doing alright, it sounds like you're having a pretty rough time from the lyrics so I hope it gets better for you. There's a good point being made about luck and success - hard work is important, but at the end of the day it's a roll of the dice, and that's something that a lot of people don't acknowledge. The factor of luck doesn't make the effort you put in or your achievements any less significant, though - hard work is the thing that gives you the means to act and capitalize on those opportunities in the first place - but it's also good to keep in mind that success is difficult to come by and isn't guaranteed.

I won't pretend I know anything about music, so all I can say is that I think this is really, really good, both lyrically and how your vocals sync up with the backing track. I think a lot of us can relate to feeling like we aren't worth our successes, or that we just got lucky. While that may be true for some, I can safely say it isn't for you. You certainly deserve your success given your talent and perseverance. Glad to see you're back.
@akamesama

Nah, many content creators have talked about it, including DD. Some definitely have imposter syndrome, but it's more than that. They've all but in a monstrous amount of effort to get their spot, but there are tons of people doing the same things and seeing a fraction of the success, if any at all. There are always many factors out of your control, especially for creators. It can feel very irresponsible to tell people that you can reach the same spot when it is vanishingly unlikely.
@jonp1952
2 жыл бұрын
@@akamesama While yes, there's a finite amount of attention that can go around which will make it harder for someone doing something similar to get to as high a point as someone more successful, I would think that it only takes time to get to that point. Eventually, if you're putting in that same kind of effort day in day out, you will get to that same point, but the time it takes may be longer due to the random nature of it. I find it hard to believe someone will just NOT get to the destination that they're aiming for themselves through hard work and determination throughout their entire lifespan. Eventually either the right person will spot their talent and give them the eyes they need to become successful, or one person may find this person, seeing their work and thinking it's good, recommend it to someone else, they will recommend it to someone else, and it'll get around that way. I feel like that will ALWAYS happen EVENTUALLY. That said it's up to the person doing it to determine if they're ready to spend a long enough time to wait for that success to pick up.
@akamesama
2 жыл бұрын
Nope. That's the "just world fallacy." While you don't have any chance unless you put in the effort, it's never going to be a sure thing. How many musicians labored in obscurity their entire lives? At least for myself, the goal is to find labor that is intrinsically valuable to you.
@jonp1952
2 жыл бұрын
@@akamesama I doubt very many if any at all because they usually quit if it doesn't bring them where they want to be. That said, the idea of fame and fortune has always been a bit silly to me. I'll never understand why someone would want more than what they need, or rather, vastly more than what they need. Moderately sure, but to the point of being rich, I don't understand it, unless it's to help other people, and people who become that rich generally hoard their wealth.

I’m so glad you have this outlet to share the music you’re inspired to make which otherwise would’ve gone unwritten. You are so skilled at capturing a part of yourself and transposing it faithfully into your lyrics, and you do so without sacrificing the power or flow of the music-on the contrary, you elevate it. You’re a bombass rapper, and this *fire* track hits hard. As people, we can never really know what it’s like to be someone else, and that’s especially true for an entertainer and their fans. But through your music, I like to think we understand you a bit more, and by reflecting on the song, we can understand parts of ourselves in a new way too-that’s just the kind of music you create. I hope I wrote this comment well enough that the understanding is reciprocated, because you should know: god or demon, heaven or hell-it doesn’t matter. You’re an artist, and you are brilliant!

You can feel the emotion radiating from this song DDK, great first song on the EP. People will always blame the success of others on luck, while completely missing the countless time that was put in before results of a major scale were seen, and its truly a fool's gambit. Putting in 110% and getting rolled by faceless strangers on the internet is truly a struggle of any online personality, and those who make it their personality truly feast on the cynicism. Being in a very unique situation can always make you seem stressed and helpless when there aren't many you can turn too who have similar stories, with people thinking you abandoned them in exchange for nothing more than fame and money. Cant wait for the rest of the EP, I'm sure they will all be bangers!

This is one of the few songs I can definitely relate to. In the last couple months, I've been feeling exactly this way. Although I've been experiencing what are probably the most important stages of personal development in my life, instead of being happy about it, I just feel unsatisfied. It's like it doesn't matter what or how much I do, it will never be enough for myself. Like a constant "wanting, getting, wanting". I gotta say tho, I feel much better after taking this out from my chest, and I would probably not have even stopped to think about it if it wasn't for your song. Yo Karen, I know both sides of your story, at least what you let us know, and you know we know what we know, I just wanna say, it sucks, not getting positive recognition from people of your past, people who were your homies, not getting that resounding cheer from your stomping grounds, I also won't ever know that feeling, because I never had anyone to cheer me on at all in life, only had the opposite actually, but hey, you should know, at the end of the day, it matters most what your inner self tells you, how you feel at your heart and soul, all the other voices don't matter as much as you seem to give them power over your mind, and I know, I suffer with anxiety, depression, and a crippling phobia of wasted effort and rejection myself, but listen gurl, you got this, you've always had this, your skill has gotten better sure, but you're still the same person at your core, you're still yourself, that won't ever change, your success transcends both sides of your life, you weren't given any more of a lucky break than if a producer found you at an underground venue and decided to sign you, all you've been given, is a bigger stage. YOU put in the hard work. YOU got to where you are now. It was all YOU that led you down this fruitful path. As the song "Remember the Name" says: "This is ten percent luck Twenty percent skill Fifteen percent concentrated power of will Five percent pleasure Fifty percent pain And a hundred percent reason to remember the name" Sure, there's luck in there, that's 10%. The other 90 is all you gurl. YOU go girl, you're made of stardust, shine bright, blaze your path foward in life, don't let others darken your light, if they don't want to give props on you shining so bright, maybe they just like the dark more. But you go gurl, you get up there on stage, and you show those stagelights what shining bright really means. Blind the world with your passion. You got this!

I get a solid vibe of resentful cynicism, a kind of perseverence that can only be found from a deep bitterness that you twist into a grin under dark eyes. Man... this one really hits hard, the context, art and lyrics really deliver a strong message, and probably took a long time to put up together, going through your own emotions and piecieng it all together, to create a song. Smiling and putting up a face is painful, but musterring the courage to speak up your mind is also a harsh process, huge respect for that. And well, I don't know how it is to be famous and have to deal with the expectations of so many people, but well for my personal coping mechanism to deal with others, and self expectations is to do some kind of small hobby like activity, it helps a lot to take your head off the loop. Anyways people's words can be harsh and even unreasonable sometimes, but I really find it amazing how you could take your emotions from this time and shape it into these verses, keep your head high girl, there is no need to feel some kind of impostor syndrome, being able to deliver your emotions this clear in music is helluva amazing. And well if you need an outlet we will be here listening, even if it doesn't sell, and you are not felling that well. Glad you are back!

I can feel this sense of journey of working your way up towards something - yet, even success can have it's fair share of shortcomings; a worthwhile achievement losing its meaning amongst other things, whilst the passage of time leads to "wanting" more out of life will never be reached. Then those along the sidelines watching from afar "getting" to see your current journey, and "wanting" more of what is portrayed outside of your personal struggles...... what a nice song

I empathize with this track and it really speaks to me. This silent frustration of never being satisfied brings tons of negatives, but I've learned that negatives aren't always bad. In fact, once I plateau and feel steady in life, I have this spontaneous urge to drop everything in an act of self-destruction and do something fresh, exciting, albeit full of suffering. As anxiety-inducing this never-ending cycle of desire is, I admit that I feel a strange sense of progression and fulfillment every step of the way. Despite the frustrations, hope you keep making content that reaches deep into people like this ✌

This beat was absolutely sick. The lyrics especially with kings, gods, and devil wanting more. Makes me think a king would want more from their kingdom, a god would want more power, and devil would want more chaos. Almost like you'll never be satisfied with what you have and wanting more from life.

No one can pretend to know you and what you go through, and in my case I live a much more quiet, private kind of life, but this track hits even someone like me where it hurts. There's a nostalgic quality to the sound too, like this could've easily been a song I grew up with. That's a hard feeling to find but I love it when I do, so thank you for that and so much more. No matter what path you take, as long as you feel good about it, then I'm happy for you.

Been listening to this EP ever since I saw that it dropped. Not gonna pretend I know what it’s like but your heart and soul are bared in every damn syllable here, and the sound feels like a real evolution of all that’s come before. I may have only learned about your work recently, but you hit it outta the park again. I hope you do whatever is best for you and screw everyone else, screw expectations. I know all us fans only know a fraction of what you’re dealing with, and we can’t pretend to know you, but even a fraction of a fraction of the weight that shows through can eat people alive.

I really REALLY like the catchy vocals interspersed with the rap and the overarching theme of the songs on this EP.
