"Best tips for War Thunder (WT) I ever heard if you did not fly before in some other simulator games or you are IRL pilot tho I do not see why would those play war thunder since it is arcade game for people that never flew a plane or knew anything about them so here it goes : 1* It requires 1 year of gameplay to become an average player. If you think you are not up for it, delete the game right now. 2 *You need to be shot down 2 million+ times to realize how to avoid that and finally learn what you did wrong and what your enemy did right. Adopt that and start to use it, or maybe even improve on it. 3 * Learn aim first, and that is done in arcade, so play lots of arcade until you get good at aiming. Tactics you learn by playing realistic battles and being shot down trillions of times, doing the same mistake over and over until, again, you figure out what you are doing wrong and what your opponent did right. 4 * Stick to just a couple of planes. Remember, even real pilots fly only a couple of planes in battles, so you do the same." As soon as you did this congratulations you are now officially lost so much productive time from your life and are now average WT player welcome to the club! o7

Hmm when you say a few planes should you only have one category of plane? like two fighters or would you mix it up? Fighter + Bomber etc...
@papyrusspaghetti9376
Жыл бұрын
@@Brandon-bc1fz He probably means a few *types* of aircraft, but not fighter + bomber, which are indeed categories. In this sense, more like P-38, P-47, Bf 109, Fw 190, etc. Be aware of the aircraft's components, however, and be aware of changes across the types (the letters and numbers after the type, usually). For example, P-38E and P-38G are very similar, P-38L and P-38J are different but still similar, but the P-38K (hidden premium) plays totally different and is often awkward. Another, even better example is Fw 190 A/F being virtually identical across variants, whereas the Fw 190 D is totally different, hosting an inline engine rather than an air-cooled radial and are more maneuverable. Same thing AGAIN with the Bf 109. The Bf 109 A, B, and E variants are all similar in their playstyle, being somewhat good at turning but are overall energy fighters. Later models, such as the F and G do not turn as well, but receive even better climb rates and improved speed. From G-6 on and the K variant, additional improvements are given in the case of firepower, and are a little (but not by much) tankier than their earlier versions. However, similar to the Fw 190 and the P-38, there is a hidden variant which plays completely different, this being the Bf 109 Z, which is more boom and zoom (given it has 4x 30mm cannons) rather than an energy fighter.

Good guide. I have 20,000+ Air RB kills and my advice is 'fly to not die'. If you stay alive you'll probably get more points and kills as the skies thin out of fighters. Even the very best pilots will struggle when outnumbered by a swarm of 3 or more enemies. Don't bother with head to head kills. Although sometimes you have no choice, if you can avoid it do so and get yourself in a better position. Also don't fight at a disadvantage. Disengage if you can and, you guessed it get yourself in a better position. Apart from some very basic manoeuvres like an Immelman or Split S don't try to learn air combat manoeuvres and then 'force' them into your game. Every dogfight is different. You have to learn to fly instinctively and the best way to do that is just to try, try and try again. It's an unforgiving environment and there is no fast way to learn except experience. I also realise players want to get on to the better aircraft as soon as possible but I recommend flying at low tiers for as long as possible so you can pick up air combat skills. I usually fly an aircraft about 30 times in Air RB before I move on to the next aircraft. It's very important to build up a knowledge of the capability of your own and enemy aircraft and if you fly the same aircraft over and over again you will learn everything about it....which will come in handy later on when you meet an enemy flying the same aircraft. One last thing. Use the C key a lot! Always scan behind you, above you, below you, to the sides. Good luck, stick with it and you will get better.

Thanks for this. I’ve been playing a while and I agree with every one of your points and it’s good to be reminded of the basics. I would like to add two things - 1. Prioritise fighters. For #9 in this list, the author went for a fat attacker. Not only, as demonstrated, did this involve tunnel vision but it left enemy fighters with more energy (higher and or faster). Going for the fat boys may get you a kill. Or on occasion, two. But you are depriving your team of a specialist fighter meaning your team is at a disadvantage. Sure, if that BTD flies in front of your guns, by all means, oblige him with some hot lead and high explosive, but if you need to slow down, lose energy or otherwise take your eye off the enemy fighters chances are much higher that you’ll have a target on your back and your team will lose. Deal with the fighters first, as a rule of thumb unless you are in an actual interceptor with an air spawn heading for spam/annoying bombers like the JU288, and you’ll get more wins and learn to dogfight so much better than peppering some fat boi who can’t do anything about it. And if you’re team has all done this (no guarantee there) you’ll be able to pick off the fatties afterwards, one by one without worrying about a P47 or 190 zooming down on you from a great height. Which brings me nicely to my second point - the best tactics and the best skill come from practice. I understood many of the points in this video from reading and watching tutorials quite early on. But I found it frustrating to apply. I knew what I should do, but often only after I was a fireball heading for the ground. I’m no super ace but I do alright now, especially considering my age, reflexes and eyesight. I have fun. I don’t count such things usually, but my K/D is above 2:1. Not that impressive but enough to make playing fun. And that’s not always easy in War Thunder. I got there by just playing and once I’d stopped caring about losing or being shot down, I could just go into game after game and slowly get better. Slowly learn how to apply the theory in this vid. It’s a cliche, but the only way to ‘git gud’ (urrrgh) is to do it. Again and again. Then like most things, and from what lots of other people have told me as well as my own experience, it clicks. Even after ages on a plateau of shit performance, suddenly the light appears over the crest of a hill and you’re having fun. And for free, here’s a bonus point 2b - if you’re having a truly bad day, as in bad compared to usual for you, shut the programme down. Gaijin’s business model is monetised frustration so if your performance is particularly frustrating that day, just stop. Pick it up again later, or tomorrow. Your mental health will thank you.

I've got over 400 hours in this game, and it is just now that I learned your convergence matters even with nose mounted cannons. I thought it didn't matter and they just went straight either way, since there's no overlapping to worry about. Edit: after playing a game of realistic in my F-5C, I actually got 2 kills, the first being with my cannons, no less! Learning that the distance is still at play changed how I look at aiming in air RB. I was always an arcade player until rank 5 for awhile. I've only been playing RB because it doesn't make sense for me to play arcade in a 10.0 br (10.3 for RB) when my next best jet is the F-86F at I think 8.3 br. At that, I've only been at it a few weeks.

The other thing is, Try to also prioritize defending your friendly bombers in ARB, ESPECIALLY if you're in a maneuverable Interceptor, or Heavy attacker. Being up there and defending you bombers allows them to complete the objective and win the game faster than actually targeting opponents. If the bombers go down, the whole team goes down as I like to say. The other thing is, Don't be afraid to Turn Tail and run from an opponent. Sure they may get more energy than you and/or speed, But if they're an inexperienced, or less than average player, they will overshoot past you and if they miss shots, you now have a chance to take them down. Lastly, pay attention to how many players there are on screen, and where they are. You don't want to be directly under anyone, directly over anyone, or close to anyone near you. You want to be in a spot that allows for a 1v1 altercation, and let them be the initiator. If they come at you, you'll have to maneuver to get away from their nose, or to get behind them. And if you turn fight anyone, don't spray and pray, tap as little as possible, a small 1 second burst after every second your nose is in front of your target. Once you start getting those consistent "hit" anouncements, then spray (For those with machine guns like the 7.7-7.62mm machineguns) until your opponent goes down, or (if you got 20mm cannons or stronger ones) keep doing 1 second sprays until you get that fire on the wings/engine, or you rip a wing off, OR knock out the pilot.

So far I have had no luck trying most of the things here. My issue might be not knowing the enemy planes on top of not knowing how to use the stock version of my plane. Climbing has either resulted in me not being able to do anything or just dying to another plane who climbed as well or came from below me but even with attempting evasive manouvers. I have never really been able to outrun any enemy with both height and speed advantage they usually just catch me regardless of distance or height. So far flying low and fast has proven to be my most succesfull tactic as most people either break off my tail out of fear of hitting the trees that I'm flying inbetween or the mountain I'm basicly touching. The planes I have had some succes with (british techtree) are the gladiators, fireflies, some of the spitfires and the attacker fb2 that I got to add on my Ground lineup and last the swift f1. I had the most succes with the attacker using hit and run tactics. I had some succes using mostly same tactics except for being at a high altitude for the swift f1. for the jets it mostly is just their speed and br that carry me. They are also the only planes that can outrun things a far as I have noticed again probably due to br and the fact that they are jets. With the spitfires most of the succes I think comes from its turning speed. I tried using the hornet for a long time but without any real succes even if it is supposed to be fast it always seems like I'm slower even without turning most enemies will catch up to me. For how I even got to the swift f7 (which so far performs really badly) mostly my attacker and just dying on top of grinding out some bombers to get the 12000lb bomb and strafing ground targets (I at some point gave up on fighting other planes in its entirety it just was no longer worth it). most of my small manouvers I do using light taps using the keys or just slowly with the mouse if I don't need to constantly look around. I can fly and land on the keys alone (way easier then flying in kerbal space program). I'm kind of at a loss at how to improve. I don't really find the wiki helpfull at all when it comes to planes. I'm also probably too used to how I learned ground the hard way until I knew what vehcile I had the most issues with then looking at the protection analysis and the modules, but looking at the stats has not worked for planes at all. I feel like everything I encounter is just beter then everythin I have in all regards climbing, accelerating, top speed, guns, energy retention and whatever else there might be. Seems like for now I'll have to keep grinding modules through strafing ground targets (and draging enemies low so my teammates can at least have an energy advantage) and actually winning air to air engagements in ground rb, although that is where I need new planes the most as my full spaa lineups don't have the range to deal with atgms and guided bombs from beyond my renderdistance.

@@Tylon3T In this phase I think it's all about practice. Pick one plane at like 2.7 to 4.7 and get really good with it. You'll probably need to play a few 100 matches until your brain begins to recognize all the subtle patterns. Don't mind to pick an "op" plane. Learn with one of the best at the BR. So everything is down to your skills then. Accelerates your learning and makes analyzing your errors easier because you can rule out the plane.

Interesting and helpful. This is one of the more fun games I've played and hands-down, the most frustrating, non-sports game (I used to break controllers playing Madden). It's good if you have low blood pressure I suppose.

How do you determine if a plane is boomer, energy or turn? What about the ones kinda in between?
@WatchMysh
2 жыл бұрын
If it's weighty and has a big fat engine it usually is a BnZ plane. Light planes with large wing areas usually turn well. Planes with an optimal power to weight ratio are usually good at energy fighting/energy trapping. But it all comes down to many different factors in the end like I said in the vidoe - you need to treat each plane individually. Sometimes a plane COULD be a good BnZ plane but its control surfaces compress a lot at high speed which means you can't maneuver anymore. So sorry if I repeat myself one more time: ;) every plane is different. Still: based on the engine/weight/wing area ratios you can make a slighty educated guess. The War Thunder forums and wiki really help for further information.

I used to shred the enemy planes using the bf109 G-2 Trop or one of the FW190s by simply getting as low as possible. This sounds stupid, but being right on the tree line almost entirely negates the enemy the potential to dogfight AND you're coming in from an unexpected angle. It's easy to get the advantage if you play smart but 9/10 times most players want to get right behind you, at the same elevation which in this case isn't smart. This is a great way to use your ground terrain, trees, hills cliffs etc. to get away from the enemy and will hopefully save you long enough to have a friendly help out. I'd also recommend if you have a fighter on your tail. Raise your nose and disengage or reduce your throttle to about 30-40%, if you do live, this will put the enemy right in front of you assuming they don't kamikaze you.

In some cases, you can try to trip up your opponent with an unexpected maneuver. I was in a dogfight, and the guy I was fighting did a forced stall maneuver, which ended up costing me the fight because it tripped me up.

Its funny to see this as a "War Thunder Veteran" who was way to stubborn to listen to anyone, and had to figure everything out by himself. Like i left every setting on default, and just learned how to fly by doing it, while changing settings when i ecountered problems. One example was the convergence settings (both vertical and horizontal): I never changed any of them, and kept the default 800m, with no vertical convergence. I just learned how to make it work, and now cant really change it, as it throws my aim of by a mile because i got used to estimate the the bulletdrop and can hit everything, no matter if im vertical, 45° up/down, upside down or going twice the speed of the bullet. Same goes for the Weapons: I have all guns on the same key (mouse left) and used my other mouse keys for bombs and rockets, and if i had to fire just one of the weapons, ill just use the 1-5 keys. Like no one else can play with my keybinds, but it works for me. Also i can fly a plane (manual) without one of the axis controls as i got my plane shot up so many times(like i can fly with out pitch, just with yaw and roll but it does not really matter wich one fails, but without roll its the hardest - landing is another story tho) It may have taken a long time, but i can challange everyone, with everything now.

What I find most difficult about AB is how when you aren’t already fighting and just flying across to try to get in the fight, by the time you get there, you’d already be spinning out because an enemy got you from behind.

I play on console and as soon as I discovered the only way to really hit anything was to switch to mouse aiming was the point I deleted the game Trying to play the game on a gamepad stick is next to impossible because as soon as you pull the trigger the recoil throws the plane around and your shots just spray everywhere Mouse aiming fixes this because the system is controlling the plane's direction and you are just moving a little circle where you'd like the system to point your plane. You can see it in this video - move the circle and the little cross hair slowly drifts to the middle. Trying to achieve that level of smooth control on a stick is so so hard I would hope they've fixed this by now, but I expect not. Maybe there are no mouse servers (in the same way you can have no mouse/keyboard servers on console)
@colewright7276

My advice, especially for console players: don’t even try, boom and zoom on a controller is impossible, P47 is horrible on controller, you will spend 10 minutes climbing to just die to a KI-43 or a Yak 3; Turn fighting isn’t even ideal, you can’t look around like you can on keyboard; Energy fighters just don’t. Do bombers ig. I have dozens of hours in WT, and for every one good/decent game I have, it follows with 50 frustrating games.

i could spray down an enemy, critical hit, severe damage, and they would brush it off, just ti return fire and shoot me in the tail with a singular bullet, somehow killing my pilot. i even had moment where my perfectly intact tail counted as tail cut loose and i started spinning. or i got hit by ONE bullet and my plane instantly exploded......i saw a single frame of the explosion, then spectator mode
