Wargames is an 80's classic to be sure. There are many different types of montages and one of my favourite kinds is in this movie. It's the research montage in the middle of the film funnily enough. The sequence where David is researching Falken and his game, and the electronic score is playing behind it and you hear that electronic buzz every time he hits a dead end. It's great. I watched it recently and I was marvelling at all the analogue resources in the libraries he is visiting. The eighties Cold War observations are on point, even from the point of view of a Canuck living north of the 49th parallel. My kid found the movie to be incredibly intense, especially the last act, and I said about the fears and apprehensions that everybody was feeling from adults to children during that time were real and that last act dramatises it perfectly, especially the relief that everybody felt in the movie at the end. We all want to feel that relief and forget that ever happened, but we will have this movie to entertain and enlighten us.

Thanks so much for commenting/sharing. Love your observations about the research montage. There is some high quality filmmaking in WarGames that I think is often overlooked. So glad you pointed it out.

My original Galaga arcade game has a Bally Family Entertainment Center Wargames Sweepstakes topper on it. Wargames was the first time Galaga was featured anywhere - great flick.

@@livingthepast I rewatched within the past six months and l am always pleased by the entertainment value, the smart script, the execution and the message. Also I was a huge Dabney Coleman fan.
