I always thought that as long as the gellar field was operational, the ship would be completely free from daemonic influence. But if it failed in any way it was instant massive corruption to those exposed. In the trailer it seems just slightly mind-fucky the whole time, is that just that guys first jump or what? Or is warp storms caused by the Darktide making it extra volatile?
@Fransens
Жыл бұрын
@@Morrimurr What you have to remember about all the tech the Imperium uses is that alot of the ships and tech they use is ANCIENT. Like ships being from before the Horus Heresy 10000 years ago, Warp-Cores and Plasma Drives having been through multiple Crusades, etc. Travel through the Warp in 40K is pretty much never 100% safe. This is why voidship crews are a very supersticious lot and very insular. There can be a variety of reasons why the Warp-Transition depicted in this cinematic looked like it did: Old wards on the Geller Field, the Warp being especially strong and violent there, not enough prayer going on in the onboard Church to the God-Emperor, Nurgle being Nurgle, etc. What this looked like to me was either their depiction of how fucking scary Warp-Transits are in general or something like the ship just being old-... I mean venerable. Remember anytime a psyker taps into the Warp to use his power chances are Warp Phenomena occur around him: Stuff freezing over and people seeing or hearing horrible shit is to be expected whenever the Immaterium is ever so slightly brushing against the Materium. Now, according to lore even the slightest flickers in the Geller Fields may give a denizen of the Warp, not just daemons... Enslavers, Warp Wasps and other nasty shit, a chance to get onboard and make the place a living hell for everybody involved. But considering nothing Actually got onboard in the cutscene I think it is safe to say it was mostly Warp-Phenomena. When a Daemon gets onboard shit usually hits the fan really quickly unless the Daemon or Entity in question shows enough restraint to make an infiltration out of it rather than a rampage and feeding frenzy. Which is entirely possible especially for the more smarter Greater Daemons or if the Deamon's patron God has something special planned. Mind you though: While technically a half-second flicker in the Geller Field would ALLOW something to get onboard that something must also first be aware of the ship, close enough to notice such a flicker AND manage to get through in time... and while time's meaning in the Warp is rather questionable to meaningless a flicker might not mean much at all in the end. A ship full of tasty souls is a FEAST for Warp Entities but not only does the Geller Field keep them OUT, it also masks the veritable beacon of light from the crew's souls from Warp Creatures. Thus the first few flickers might only do so much as to make the surrounding residents in the Warp NOTICE them in the first place. Subsequent flickers might give them a clue on when to get in and later ones will be the actual flickers that doom the crew. Given that almost no lore exactly explains how the whole thing works for Daemons and the like we can only really guess like the poor SOBs on the ship, after all we mostly only get to see what it is like for the crew after all.
@danielflavelle9984

@@Morrimurr there's frequently ghosts, apparitions, hallucinations even with the Gellar Fields up. I recall stories about warp translations that can last months and the entire time people are high strung from the occasional "just a trick of the light" or suspicious flicker of movement and a constant, inescapable sense of wrongness/dread. Not usually described as that bad but it's not like it's impossible... just unlikely. Don't forget, warp travel needs to be reliable enough that commercial systems underpinning the logistics of the Imperium can be founded on it. It can go VERY wrong but it can't do so often. That would be really fun! But idk why anyone would choose be a normal person over a space marine, psyker, or part of the Mechanicus. There are many "overpowered" people and you can't just jump from one class to the next. You can't start as a normal person and evolve into a space marine (correct me if I'm wrong) for late game content. I think they could make it work, but it would be quite the ordeal figuring out boundaries like that.
