Too close, impropper mix, or too much paint. You can even see bubbles from where the primer is either pooling, or maybe it's even attacking the plastic as sprays can if misused. Not really an issue at all for batch painted infantry, though, having a few sketchy models like that in your army isn't the end of the world.

I would have gone with a fast Kraken scheme. Wraithbone Spray, Seraphim Sepia for the fleshy bits, while that dries get the Mephiston Red on the plates. Drybrush the sepia with wraithbone, Carroburg Crimson for the plates. Optional edge highlight for the plates and you're only missing the tongue and the eyes. Got through 3k of Nids that way, looked gorgeous and saved my sanity after years of painting space marines.

A few points for Pat: 1. Everybody copies stuff from Peachy! He’s like one of the two most recognisable painting instructors on the internet. 2. The key to using talent in the bottle products is to casually brush it under the carpet and pretend it’s all 100% skill. Peachy: I like your scheme but I’m going to have to give it to Pat based on pure creativity. You have taught him well!

I used peachy's method he used in our kill team scenery video but the basics of that are: Metallic base coat, take your pick. Dilute some dirty down 6-1 with water. Apply to model and use heat to aid the effect - I used a hairdryer. Add some undiluted dirty down to areas and then do a mix of the two steps until you're happy. Drybrush with silver/chrome etc.

Given you're not counting your priming time in your painting time, a cheeky trick you could have used here is a zenithal prime using 2 colours. Especially Pat. Prime in a purple (eg Alien Purple from Army painter) then do a zenithal with white to get a stronger base down, which does even more of the heavy lifting. You can get fancy and use blue as the initial primer as well before doing white over the top, or super fancy and do Ultramarine and Alien Purple. Some things to play with that add a lot of interest before you start your 30 minute timer. :)
