Hi there Journeyman my question is do this films work as good as indoor warm normal halogen lights when the film lens is placed over the cool white led cause I'm working on a project with a few of my tap light led ones. Just curious if you had a good affordable link to purchase some on Ebay that could help me out a bunch? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks you!! I have spent two days determining how to change out my cool white to warm in my 2016 19' Flying Cloud. With my lights, one cannot change the bulb as you can if your AS lights were original halogen. The AS dealer/service crew want $300/light to replace the lights. At 17 lights, it's over $4500. I found replacement fixtures with warm on High Sky RV Parts for $48 per light. Not a bad price if you do have a light go bad. Then, on the Airstream Forum found a thread on gels and they include your link here. Saves me a mint and I'm going for it. I just ordered the gel sheet, and saw your link to Amazon, so I'll get those too. I run into other RVers along the way and I'm sure someone will bring this up. I'll have extra gel to help them out. Thanks again!!

I got the idea to just paint my LED lights vs. gels. This was for my steps to porch lights outside.. I used a tiny jar (.25 oz.) Hmm... I'd worry a little bit if that was oil-based stain (could ignite from the heat?). Also no idea whether the stain would off-gas in a way that gave off bad fumes. The gels I used are designed for just this sort of thing.

It makes a big difference. I have found that on a couple lights (the ones above the dinette) it made sense to go back with a hole punch (the kind used for paper) to reduce the effect of the gel just a bit.... so you might want to try that why you are doing the install. A couple holes in each gel above the dinette and we felt we'd gotten it just right. Didn't need any holes in any of the others...

Hey, great video. I was wondering what filter should I buy to make my ceiling light cooler? I bought an LED "bright white" ceiling light but since I can't change the bulb since it's built into it, I would like to use a gel that would make it "daylight" color instead if possible.
@JustaJourneyman
4 жыл бұрын
To make a bright white look more like daylight you want warmer, not cooler. The gels linked in the description below should help. You can fine tune the mix of light by using a hole puncher on the gel to let more blue/cool light through if the gels are too warm for you.
@briantran5240

@@JustaJourneyman Sorry, I'm new to this whole color temperature spectrum for lighting but I thought making a light warmer would make it more yellow/orange rather than make it more white? I get confused because I'll see labels like cool white and they're at a higher color temperature than warmer colors would be.

Not sure where to go from here?

Trying to fix those over head lights. I think it may be the switch. I pop the fuse every time I turn on the switch to those overhead lights. Can you help?
@JustaJourneyman
2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have a short of some kind. I'd pop each of em out of the ceiling and check for exposed wires; my guess is that there's a wire that's been pinched against some metal somewhere and over your travels it's worn through the insulation and is now causing a short. If that doesn't solve it, I'd go one by one, removing each one from the loop to see if it's "the" faulty one... like holiday lights.
@SilverDogAdventures

@@JustaJourneyman I only have 2 puck lights. I checked the wires by removing the puck lights and also checked the small individual led lights. The wires were sliding in and out ok but when I opened the locker up I could not find the connectors. I think I will connect the hot wire to the switch and purchase a long wire to the overhead puck lights to see if your are correct.

@JustaJourneyman
2 жыл бұрын
True. Thing is 1) most people who do these comparisons don't lock the white balance on their cameras so you the camera adjusts and you can't see the comparison anyway and 2) I was unable/unwilling to take the time to adjust the white balance on my own camera to prevent the issue. :) Guilty as charged. Still, since folks are buying different gels, have dramatically different furnishings/reflective surfaces, etc it's going to be a personal decision to tune the lighting as you like. As mentioned, gels can be stacked, holes cut in them, etc. all to get just the right warmth.
