Hello Emily & Family I have wanted to weave for as long as I can remember so at 71 yrs old I am starting. I ordered my Ashford 24 in. rigid heddle 1 week ago and that is when I started watching you tube. Of all of the videos I have watched yours was by far the most informative. It is straight forward, simple to understand and very down to earth, Thank you. I can hardly wait to do my first warp and simple project. Thanks again and oh yes I am a subscriber now.

Fantastic video! I have good luck leaving the yarn on the peg (uncut) and "walking" my loom up to it. I saw someone doing this with a horizontal warping board and it blew my mind! The cut comes when I'm right up on the peg.

Oh goodness I never thought to try warping like that! I will definitely try it the next time I warp it up. Thank you for the suggestion! ~ Emily

Hi Theresa! When I first got my loom I searched KZitem to help me figure out how to warp it up and start the process because it can be quite intimidating when first getting started! And although there are some out there to watch, I felt like there could be more. I was nervous that I didn't explain things right, so it makes my heart smile that it helped! I plan on doing more videos in the future because, again, there can never be enough videos about the fiber arts, lol! Do you have any questions or feel like there is a part that I could have explained better or gone into further detail? Thank you again for watching our videos and taking the time to comment! Emily

Can you warp it on the stand or does the loom have to be clamped down on something
@MillGapFarms
2 жыл бұрын
It needs to be clamped down to something because as you warp it needs to be under tension. Thank you so much for your question and if there is anything else I can help you with feel free to ask. :-) ~Emily

I just LOVE your video! Very good explanations, without fancy terminology that's so confusing for beginners. I have a question: on what position is the heddle when you start weaving, the very first row? It's up or down? Thanks!
@MillGapFarms

Hi There, Thank you for taking the time to comment! Yes, I wanted to create a video for beginners cause when I started I was super intimidated by all of the terminology, so I am glad this works, lol. So when I start weaving my very first row, I always start with my heddle up and start from the right. But that is just personal preference. You can start with it either up or down, from the left or the right. I hope this helps! Emily

Is the length from “back bar” to the peg the length of your “project” plus all of waste etc.?

Hi Lacey, That is a great question. With my projects, since I always leave a fringe, I don't have much of any waste from the back bar. Most of my waste comes from the front of the project where I actually tie the yarn onto the front of the loom... As I am finishing up my weaving, you can only get so close to the heddle before you have to stop due to the lack of space or room to pass the shuttle through. So my fringe is usually 6ish inches at the back and I just cut the front to match its length. I know my husband is finishing up the video of the actual weaving portion on this series and will be posting it soon, but I can also make a short video going into more detail about the actual size of the project and the length of the project when first started. My kitchen island that I use to warp up my loom is about 8 feet 3 inches long and my final project is usually 7 foot long and that includes roughly 6 inches of fringe on either size. Does that make sense? Did I answer your question appropriately? Sometimes I find things hard to explain, lol. Thank you so much for your question. Emily

What size is your loom? I have a 24” one.
@MillGapFarms
3 жыл бұрын
Hi There! I have the 32" and absolutely love it. Although I probably could have gotten away with the 24" cause most of my projects are 12-18 inches but every once in a while I'll make a large 30-32" shrug and I love having that option. I am also not a petite person, lol... so the 32" isn't hard for me to manage. Do you have the loom stand for yours? I just got one for mine and I feel like it is a game changer for sure! Thank you for your comment!! Emily

@@MillGapFarms no I don’t have a loom stand for mine, and I’ve had mine for a year now and am finally about to use it now! Having kids makes it hard to find the time to do these types of crafts. I’ve got an inkle loom, and have tried a smaller rigid heddle loom in a class. I wanted a wider loom so that I’d have many options for what to make, not just scarves.

Sailorgirlk1, I think having options is a great idea. We have two other floor looms. They are not fun to warp up though. For now, I use my table loom for most of my projects. Good luck with your next project!
