Why do I somehow get the feeling that arguing about whether Trey or Warren is "the better guitarist" is basically taking a gigantic shit on what is, to my ears, a beautiful piece of jamming? Fan-boys on both sides ought to pull your heads out of your asses and learn to appreciate the fact that music like this still exists at all. If you need a harder kick in the ass than that, I'll happily invite any of you to allow my teenage daughter to be the DJ in your car while you drive.

I think that everyone who says that one of these world-class musician/guitarists is better than another one, is using the wrong word. It's not a matter of 'better' or 'best' at their level; but a matter of one's personal taste, or the one you like the best. There is no objective measure of musicianship on the level of these guys.

@IwotchVid3oz yes he toured with him the early nineties. carlos was pretty impressed by phish. during ecstatics moments of jamming he described the scene unfolding as "the band being a hose, and the music was the water rushing through the band into the audience" which appeared as "flowers dancing and floating in the water coming through the hose" or something like that, which stuck. now those ecstatically immersive moments in their jams are reffered to as the "hose"

really cool and personal video... i actually had to listen to it twice, but trey starts off the funky bitch/ son seals song and warren misses the change. the song is a standard 12 bar blues and it goes on to be 14 bars plus a tag. it just shows what can spontaneously happen when you start jamming. anyway, besides that, WOW. what a great duo.

you say that warren and trey suck? why? they lack the feeling? it's two guys just screwing around on guitars. they're not at a show, they're just having fun fooling around. if you go and throw a baseball around, are you going to go through a full wind up and take it completely seriously? no. they're just two incredible guitarists having some fun. next time you should learn a little more before you go talking about things you obviously know little to none about

Eric Clapton and John Mayer pretty much suck compared to these 2 legends. Trey, Warren, Jimi, Buddy Guy, Steve Vai. Satriani, Knopler, Gilmour, Page. Trucks, Duane Alllman, and maybe a few others are the real deal. To witness these 2 together is like watching a duet with Les Claypool and Mike Gordon, simply amazing.

Certainly they improvise differently, as Warren is better known for his bluesy sounds. Tre doesn't strike me as much of a blues guy, so this video surely isn't a display of his best. He plays blues very generically.

As I read a lot of the comments it makes me sad and angry, WTF? When will people get it - how many times do I need to say this on-line - MUSIC IS NOT A COMPETITION !!! i was totally getting into this performance and a great jam it was....but then I start reading the same old stupid shit...this guy is better than that guy B.S. - well folks does it look like Trey and Warren are even thinking of those terms? Hell NO ---they are too busy having a blast. Watch any one of Eric Clapton's Blues festival videos....while one artist is playing - all the other players are glued to that artist with a huge grin on their face...In other words -who is better than who doesn't even enter their brain. Man I've wasted enough breath on this subject.....

There are much better players in the blues genre. Shit check out phillip sayce too... damn he is good. Maybe you have heard these players already. It's all subjective I know but before you go claiming Haynes is top 3... give them a listen or at least another listen.

@rosenfeld77 It's all opinion. I agree and disagree with you. It could be about saying little, but it better have a lot of meaning. As for Trey, I think he's had some good solos. One of my favorites is actually off of 'A Live One', his Chalkdust solo on that take is killin'. If you really want to see some cool Blues stuff though, I'd check out Roy Hargrove. His album 'Earfood' would be a good place to start.

@dontdamnme84 I suppose I agree with you about their flow- they're definitely groovin'. I'd have to disagree with you about their intent though. I see no reason why they wouldn't be trying to make unique musical statements.. Just because they are "jamming" doesn't mean they aren't putting a lot of thought and effort into what they're trying to say. All I'm getting at is that I prefer to hear more depth in the solos I listen to. These guys could learn a thing or two from Esperanza Spalding!
@himtroy

People are saying Trey can't live up to Warren? Warren might be slightly more technically inclined, but Trey can jam much better. Gov't Mule and other Haynes jamming is good, but it's pretty cliche' rock. Phish is pretty free form and much more complex. AKA it's much more impressive that Trey can roll with that than Haynes soloing fast in a blues fashion over modified blues jams. If you're doubting this find a good version of Mikes Song or You Enjoy Myself.
@TheKindEye

The comments of idiots are entertaining... jk - you bash Trey and say he sucks but Warren is pretty good. Funny... it seems to me that Warren and Trey, both, who are musicians who play in stadiums and arenas around the world, and who are often invited to jam with other greats... well, you would think that they know quite a bit more about what makes great music than you... and since they obviously hold each other in high esteem, well... just kinda shows what you know
