In the last few weeks, I've finished reading the book "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" (Crystal Zevon) about the ups and downs of Warren Zevon's life. It's not always easy reading, but with a good blend of journal notes, quotes from Crystal, Jordan, Ariel, musician friends, and more than a few other friends, it's honest and insightful. While reading the book, I've listened with such enjoyment and appreciation again or for the first time to dozens of Warren Zevon songs. January 24, 2020 would have been his 73rd birthday. Although I also miss him like many of you , the genius and spirit of Warren Zevon is alive and well in his music.

Genius is rarely rewarded. Zevon's two Virgin Record albums; "Sentimental Hygiene," and "Transverse City" are masterpieces of composition and message. Unfortunately, the abysmal sales of both albums led to Virgin Records dropping Warren in 1989. The psychic turmoil of that severance meant Zevon would have to survive as an independent artist. Composing a handful of sterling albums on a small label, and touring mostly small clubs and bars like The Dingo in Albuquerque, Zevon's music through the 1990's up until his death in 2003 continued to express musical and lyrical brilliance. His recent RRHOF nomination is an ironic nod of recognition for this singular artist. If he actually wins induction, I hope to watch it on the news at eleven...

I've been lucky enough to see Waren Zevon twice-The first time was I believe The Envoy tour and the second time was the Traverse Ciry Tour(l believe early 1990s)- I enjoyed the Envoy tour tremendously, and the thing about the Traverse City tour(Beacon theatre I;m pretty sure) was that he played all the hits in the first half, while his computer was uploading - and played Traverse City-- Fantastic songwriter/performer who wrote underrated songs---

Kohntarkosz, David used either his red or duck blue Stratocaster (both equipped with EMG pickups) or the black Steinberger with EMG pickups on this track through his Hiwatt amplifiers, Mesa Boogie cabinets and Pete Cornish pedal board. He recorded his guitar parts in London with Pink Floyd engineer Andrew Jackson at Abbey Road Studios (while mixing Delicate Sound of Thunder) and then told Warren to use the best bits for the solos. David agreed to the video as make up for not being able to fly to L.A. to record the track initially (and used the Gretsch white Penguin guitar, a rare guitar I may add for the video).

Hell I love Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Blues from a Gun.” This song was after that on my mix tape. Yeah, tape. And those two songs are beautifully matched IMHO. BTW, I don’t know if anyone else did but I thought to myself, this sounds like Pink Floyd and Zevon made a record together.

Not really a 50's/early 60's song if I have to be honest. The theme is very Fallout but it was released too late and doesn't have the right sound for it (and few people actually knows who WZ is on top of that), but it would definitely fit in s sci-fi game

When I sing this song on my own, I sing it about 15-20% slower. And I know how this is going to sound, but it's a way better song that way. This is not a tune that you belt through like you're double-parked.
