Northern Lords is so good, I remember the day that I bought it I was legit stunned at how fun it made playing as a viking. 100% worth the money. Fate of Iberia is unfortunate because it does make playing in Iberia fun but it is very restrictive about joining the struggle as an outsider which sucks. Also I hate the ending where a bunch of small empires get created, I instantly want to stop playing when the AI does that. Royal Court I would say is decent, they just need to rework the Hold Court action and I could see that happening in order to make vassals more interactive.

I like Royal Court for everything but the court. The artifacts are enjoyable, the positions are fun, and I really really love the cultural mechanics. Crusader Kings has arguably one of the worst dlc models for paradox (Vicky is probably worse) which is wild. As someone who went into CK from Stellaris it is incredibly shocking. Stellaris’ dlc is largely really good and they actively made the content worth the price (years after the fact in the case of portraits) so seeing these big dlc packs that don’t really do a ton go for pretty much the base game price is absurd. Such a shame that it had a great start too

Im hyped for this upcoming chapter since they mentioned that they will be working on enchancing core gameplay rather than flavour packs. Imo the only flavour pack worth it full price is Northern Lords.

I loathe that culture merging and divergence is tied up in Royal Court. They should have come with the free update instead of being tacked on to the most underwhelming and over-priced DLC in the game. I mostly ignore court events and simply turn off the notification to hold court most of the time. Northern Lords is good, but the Jomsvikings can be very annoying when you're a non-Asatru playing in the Baltic or Russia. I enjoy Fate of Iberia a lot. Some of the endings are hard to get which can be frustrating or gratifying. I'm glad that they went for a shorter struggle in Legacy of Persia. It still adds dynamism like Fate of Iberia, but it feels to me like if you set your eyes on a certain ending in LoP that it's easier to work towards that, even if the AI makes decisions that go against it.

Hmm I have Northern Lords (love vikings) and Fate of Iberia. If I buy another it will be Tours and Tournaments most likely, as I feel it will be a better value than Royal Court. I do like Persia but I think T&T is a more universal upgrade to all regions. T&T was on sale but I missed it.

Was it worth it money wise? Fuck no. I even told my friends (They all play vanilla) who were curious to not buy the chapter But, as someone who never plays vanilla and only with mods, I still bought the chapter. Why? Because I know overhaul modders can/will use these features for their own projects and expand on them with their own flavor. For example the White-gold tower or Minas Tirith throne rooms. Personally Only bought CK2 in 2013 because of the Elder Kings mod. My first 300 hours of the game was spent on just that mod alone. This is the same for me in CK3. I think out of the 650 hours I have, only 50 of them have been in vanilla. 25 from the initial launch, and 25 for multiplayer with friends. The rest is on mods like Realm of Exile, Elder Kings 2 and Godherja.

That’s more or less how I feel - and also how I play. I never touch vanilla unless it’s to see the newest update before it comes to mods. Which I didn’t even do when T&T came out

I couldn't disagree with you on royal court more. the cultures change alone is worth the price. it makes it actually possible to expand outside your home region by hybridizing cultures. the courtrooms are epic and unlike the regional packs you don't have to play very specific places to use it. yeah the events for holding court are meh. but petitioning your liege? amazing. appointing court positions? vital. ARTIFACTS! essential. if your in India or Africa (nearly half this map) northern lords fate of Iberia and even the current Persian DLC do NOTHING for you. you may as well not have them. and if your in the region for one of them... then the other two don't exist as far as your concerned. but every single ruler can access at least some of the things in royal court, Wards and Wardens, and tours and tournaments automatically making them the best three. because they are the ONLY THREE in over half the game. fate of Iberia only matters... in Iberia. same with the Persia one. Viking tendency to travel makes it so if your using northern lords you might encounter the rest if you go out of your way... but then you can only participate in the struggles you arrive at after using ROYAL COURTS culture mechanics. and grader effects the course of your entire realm. far from being useless or bad. the royal court mechanics are so ubiquitous that most people don't even notice when they use something from it. or that it is neccesary to even ACCESS the other dlc if you start outside their regions. leading them to associate it with just the terrible pick 3 events. litterally the smallest least impactful part of the DLC. IO would give it an A with Tours and Tournaments getting S. each regional depends on you playing that reagion. if you do S teir. if you don't. they are F teir with the clothing backs. and that's not even getting into the flavor potential royal court brings to mods. Elder kings 2 LOTR Way of Kings. none of these work without royal court. GOT was a shadow of itself until the court systems got added.

Admittedly, much of my opinion is colored by its overblown price. Regardless of what it adds, it is not worth $30. However I like some of its features - although holding court I could live without.

The game is worthless to me w/o the G.O.T mod. Sucks for me as a console player. I don't get tech at all. So, I play Arma Reforger and that is cross play for PS, Xbox and cpu. I can download and run any of the billion mods that creators post and that is an action, graphic intensive pvp game. So why can't they make a mod available in CK3 which plays like a deeper text based game?

There's no way around it, the game is still very niche to be worth spending much developing time to re-code 9 years of development of CK 2. I think they learned a big lesson with the first DLC package and set the ship right with the Chapter 2 DLCs.
