For years, I've held a pretty negative opinion of the King company's student model trumpets, despite being a huge fan of some of their other instruments. (e.g. the 2B and 3B jazz tenor trombones, the 627 baritone, the 2280 euphonium, etc.) I found the sound of the 600 and 601 student trumpets to be closed off and not very resonant, with similar trends of stuffiness in both the lower and extreme upper register. However, a recent comment prompted me to look deeper into the era of manufacture of said trumpets, and the result of this search was me finding a wonderful example of an older King model 600 with a delightful tone quality. Enjoy!
