Let's settle the debate on Arches pronunciation 😂 it's a French brand (it comes from the name of the city it's made in) so the "es" in the end is silent. And we pronounce "ch" like you would pronounce "sh". So I guess it is Arsh 😁 but you know Alice, we french people are incapable of pronouncing english properly and we would butcher any english or American brand, so feel free to pronounce Arches any way you want 😘

I am so pleased someone at last speak up on how to pronounce Arches! I am Swedish, did French at school, and go to painting courses to the UK fairly regulary and I grind my teeth every time I hear their hard pronounciation of Arches. I asked for Arches with the correct French pronounciation at a well stocked art shop and the shop asisstant, whom you think would know how to pronounce brand names in a correct way, she just looked at me as I came from outer space , so I had to say it again with the English pronounciation and she lit up and said: yes, of course we have it but you are saying it in a wrong way”... grrrrrr!

@@ChristinaTodd1970 I think the issue is in your phrasing. "I could never justify" makes it sound (to my ears, anyway) like you could never, under any circumstances, justify the price of these paints. Not that your current situation doesn't support it; that, as you stated, you could *never* justify it. It seems a wildly different point than what you are saying in your addendum. You not being able to afford it is totally valid - I'm a single disabled momma to a congenital heart babe. I feel you! But I personally think it is a BIG DEAL to pay artists and craftspeople a fair wage. Now, I'm a total leftist activist blah blah blah - class struggle, the value is imparted through the labor of the worker, blah blah - and I am here for paying people who are making this stuff aside from just major manufacturers. I know not everyone will see it as I do. But...you know. Food for thought. 💜

@@Kimmaline Yep. Words have power and saying what you mean is important. Sometimes I forget to say exactly what I mean. People aren't mind-readers and can only know what I mean by what I say. Thank you for reminding me of that. I am a Progressive too and try to support small businesses rather than big box corporate America. If I had money to burn I would ABSOLUTELY buy hand-made watercolors, not only to support the makers by to experience the artisan quality and enjoyment of hand-made products. I thought about editing my first post but I'm hoping people will read the whole thread and be reminded that words have power and to say what you mean. 😘

I absolutely love this piece you made! These Poems about you, are one of my favorite paints others that I have not regretted purchasing from AGallo for another standard traditional paint colors,. JuliaK studio paints for her mixes of shimmers and traditional colors and one which I love for her creative paints Kwarts Creations which offers more unique mineral paints and colors that you cannot find elsewhere some are more grainy due to the minerals used but beautiful granulations! Nibs Watercolors also has fun paints and Meraki is a new vegan paint I found that is down right beautiful as well. All of these I have purchased from several times and I have swatched out or will be swatching more colors from these on my art haul vids and some more coming up in if you are interested. I am picky like you said about your mom on lightfastness and pigment info along with quality pours and such. :)

Daniel Smith watercolours released in 1993 & has 259 colours that combines ancient minerals - Has best possible lightfastness & permanence. Made with genuine minerals finely ground into pigments with many semi - precious minerals such as Amethyst,Lapis Lazuli & Hematite. Luminescent range contains 4 different types: Iridescent colours that reflect light like a mirror. Interference colours refract & scatter light. Duochrome paints bounce between 2 colours depending on light source. Pearlescent colours add an opalescent shine. His products are not tested on animals - the only animal derived ingredient is pigment: PBK9 found only in the following watercolours: Sepia Ivory Black Joseph Z's Neutral Gray & Paynes Grey. Lascaux Sirius Primary Watercolour System employs only 5 colours, 2 Reds - 2 Blues & 1Yellow. On a belief system that all the colours a water colourist might need can be mixed from these 5 tubes of paint - to due to colour compatibility there is less chance of creating muddy colours. However I do believe that they do have other colours available.

Unpopular opinion: handmade watercolours are not better than comercially made profesional grade paint. Sure, if its made of some rare pigment or natural pigments or binder that are not seen in the comercial range it could be interesting to get some, but guys, dont pay twice the price for widely accesible pigment that was hand milled. Hand milling doesnt add any quality to pigment and not all crafters have enough knowledge to get the most of each pigment.
