I love the platinum era, but I absolutely agree on the line distribution issue. I think Lin Lin deserved so much more. Also, I want to add some history. If we think it over, the pop culture in Japan was huuuuge in the 70-80s, but with the japanese lost decade in the 90s, the style was driving in a more metal-rock way. This time some bands like L'arc-en-ciel, Siam shade and others were all over the top, and there's not many pop artists recognizable from that period. It wasn't until the late 90s that the pop industry became more popular again, with singers as Ayumi Hamasaki, Utada Hikaru and our beloved Momusu. Momusu (and later H!P) were some of the first idol groups getting broad recognition, and then, they inspired a lot of other groups (from Japan and Korea, mostly). AKB48 was born in 2005, and MomocloZ in 2008, so that's when other 'big idol groups' started, and also that's the time when k-pop was gaining international recognition with a more agressive approach. From Korea, we got the kpop, their dramas and their electronics. All of them were connected, as the actors were singers and dancers as well, and their videos are on high quality to be exhibited in their own tvs around the world (actually, in a store i asked why they were showing kpop videos on display, and a guy told me that it was a policy for korean brands like Samsung or LG to be exhibited with korean content), so all of it was just a massive movement for the kpop industry (and that's one of the reasons for why is so big today). I think that's one of the reasons momusu (and jpop as a general, if we think about it) wasn't so popular during that time, but our girls continued, and their strategy was to enforce their quality as performers, and to try and expand the group into other countries. That's why they added the pandas, as a way to get closer to China, as they had the Taiwan audittion in 2007 (and the korean in 2009). That's why in resonant blue, they had that smoky eye, to appeal to a international public. So they kept on fighting, and after that, when things got stable, we got kpop conquering the world, and jpop getting its own way, and that's when the colorful era came and the sales got higher again. So I think the platinum era has a lot of merit for keeping the group alive, with great songs and performances, so they could pass their legacy to the next generation 💖💖

While I consider the Platinum era as my favorite Morning Musume era, one thing I didn't like about this era though is the line distribution, the formula of who are going to sing lead and the underutilization of the 8th generation.

The platinum era is my 2nd favorite era right behind the golden era but 8th gen was underappreciated by fans and management while junjun and linlin did have moments where they got to shine it was monstly on bsides and deep album cuts just wish they were pushed more by management and more appreciated by fans

Platinum era is my favorite but the line distribution really sucks. Although never got worse than Furusato.

IMHO the issue with this era is the fact they overused Ai and Reina so fucking much. More Risa please? Just let people sing even if they aren't that great. Read some of the interviews, Sayumi felt like she was shit all the time. Koharu was even okay, it was just her Karinrin voice started to seep through her MM music and she couldn't separate her anime singing voice to her actual professional one. Aika is okay and LinLin and JunJun are my least faves.
