Thank you for the video. I could just kiss you. My husband and I purchased the part and installed it this morning. I did one load and the problem appears fixed. It is such a relief. The old clutch didn't appear to be broken but was covered in black debris. Again, thank you so much. You saved me $100s of dollars.

Great video! I just did this repair and it was a cakewalk. I just disconnected the pump and left the motor attached to the gearbox. It slid out easily and wasn't too heavy all as one unit. Doing it this way allowed me to leave the cover and everything on, other than the agitator of course.

This is the best video I have found on the replacement of a clutch. Just a realization: returning the Retaining Clip is not as easy as shown on the video. Also, I broke my D clip. Appreciate the video but I would edit @ 11:19 the placement of the brake cam and/or the configuration of the cam is important for inserting the clutch, also need to mention the clutch spring needs to be moved so it won't hit the brake cam. Also, in the case of an older and more used washer a rubber mallet will be useful to hammer the clutch assembly in order for the three bolt mounting holes to line up with the mounting points on the clutch base to re-install the screws.

Great video, was very easy to follow. The clutch springs I got were light blue and dark blue and the one in the machine was between the two! Instructions said blue or black! I went with the light blue because it looked like a heavier spring for my large capacity machine. Running the machine now and all seems good except a very strange squeak while agitating.

I ran into a problem that I never expected. There should be a video about this! The direct drive couplers in newer machines have steel shaft bushings. The older had plastic. I had a bad clutch and got to the coupler the half attached to the Transmission had a crack in the plastic. I tried to remove it. The bushing had seized to the Transmission. I used WD40 and soaked and pulled over a period of hours. The thing would not budge and all the plastic was destroyed up. I tried to pry it lose the seal in the transmission came out. In hindsight I should have drilled the bushing. I prefer the plastic couplers.

Very grateful with all I have learned with you, Sr. My question is that my washer machine doesn't have the ring that you remove in minute 10:35. I have already change the Clutch assembly, shaft Direct Drive, washer motor coupling, water bomb, and many other little tings , but it still make a lot of noise between wash and spin. And I can't find the ring between the shaft and the clutch assembly. I think that's the problem, but , since I got my washer machine used, I really don't know what happened with it.
Perfect video. Just followed along with you and it came out great. Thanks!

Thanks for the great video! My problem is, if left unattended my washer drains but fails to spin. However, if I hear it draining the water and then raise and relower the lid, I hear the drive engage and the spin cycle will actually start. To me, it sounds like some sort of clutch issue. For $20, it can't hurt to replace it on my 15 yr old washer. Thanks again!

I just finished replacing the clutch on my washing machine. Great video! It helped me do the job easily. One question I have is when I lifted the washer off its back and set it upright, there was the sound of a small metal object hitting tile. Lifting it back up I found a small gold color piece that looks very much like a common head nail, about 1.5 inches long, with a hold through the pointed tip that looks like something a cotter pin or retaining clip of some sort would go through to keep it in place. I set the washer on its back and looked all through it, but nothing seemed out of place. Any idea what this "nail" is for? Thanks again for a really great video!!

Hi. Thanks for the video. After repairing my washer I found a part that fell out of the washer. I could not find out where it went until watching this video. At 6:41 you can see this part, a clear long cup that clips on to the frame. It is to the left of the transmission, right next to the empty hole along the edge. Why did he take the housing off? That was totally unnecessary and a waste of time. Just pull the agitator, put it on its back and take out the motor and transmission as one unit. You only need to detach the motor (which is easier after its out) if you are replacing the motor coupling.

Need help... I did the clutch repair on a LSR7010pq1. The center shaft was corroded and would not come out. Took a lot of effort, hammering and time but I got it out. I removed the inner spin basket thinking it would help me get the shaft out. Wrong. The drive block is stuck in the basket and no amount of hammering with a 4lb mallet will set it free. Replaced clutch and reassembled without issue. The drive block was very difficult to tighten and get it to lock on the shaft. But I got it tight. Now when empty, Low spin is fine but in high spin it goes violently out of balance. I checked the suspension components and they are all in tact. The Spin basket remained attached to the shaft after several tests. Not sure what went wrong. I think it is related to the drive block or the basket. What confuses me is that it is fine on low spin. I am going to run it without the Spin basket to see what happens. Any Ideas what my problem is ?

My direct-drive Kenmore 500 produces a loud "bang" sound every time a spin cycle begins. I am fairly certain the noise is produced by the spring portion of the clutch "slamming" into the brake cam, to release the brakes and allow the tub to spin...Is the loud "bang" normal? Other than that, the tub spins normally and rapidly and there seems to be no damage done to the brake cam or other components of the basket drive.

A couple of parts might cause the problem you’re having. I’d start with having a look with direct drive motor coupling. Normal use will create wear on the coupling and eventually wear these plastic disks out. Inspect those to see if they are faulty or if your washer is belt driven then inspect the belt/idler pulley. If they are okay then have a look at the motor and transmission and make sure they are working properly. Did you notice any dust or burning smell when the washer was in use? That's a common symptom of a faulty clutch. We have information available on our site in our free repair help section. I’d suggest going through it as it’s quite helpful. Let us know if you need additional help and if so provide the model number.

Would you mind addressing an issue with a Kenmore washer spinning but makes a loud knocking noise during the spin cycle. Stops when you open the lid. From everything we check out could it be the clutch? Thank you for your time.
