Compared to other slave owners yeah that means Washington was usually nice not saying he didnt beat them but it probably wasnt as frequently as other would but still isnt cool but hell we cant change it. Why do you think our founding fathers left that open to abolish it they knew someone was gonna come around knowing this is a evil an morally wrong. So really at least they did that.

Atleast he didn't split up the families. You gotta give him that he was looking out for the enslaved families best interest an that was not being spilt up from their families but he should've done more about the issue of slavery

Slavery did not only help build America, it helped build all of Europe and Egypt as well. Every country that could have slaves had them, and it began in Europe in the Roman era. So bitching about where blacks were slaves is quite petty and an excuse to hate, when the fact is NO ONE should have ever owned other people, but they did, and we cant change that. We can however make sure no one ever does it again.

What was the diet like in other words what did slaves eat for breakfast and dinner including beverages?
@cindychristian1700

Water was never sufficient because water was usually dirty from a pond, lake, river or even a creek! Well water was only given during work breaks and wine, ale, hard cider, tea, coffee and liquor, which was cleaner and safer to drink than water, was only given to slaves on Holidays, home made wine and drinks, using whatever fruit they could obtain was made or liquor and wine was stolen out of necessity. Salt pork and corn meal was the most of the daily diet plus some salted fish and some flour was rationed to make some forms of food like corn bread. Corn bread or something made from cornmeal was usually a meal or all three meals, if they were actually given three meals! I read that most of the meat that the enslaved ate was possum, raccoon and squirrel but possum was better and easier to cook and the poultry was chicken, duck, wild turkey and pheasant but all this was something they had to hunt themselves or secretly salvage from the table scraps of their enslavers or their dinner guests. Pork was almost always salt pork and the discarded parts like, knuckles, feet, ox tail, ears, rib meat, head and intestines. The other parts of the poultry they would obtain through meal prep like the livers, gizzards, feet ,bones, fat and some parts of the skin. Meat was usually cuts of beef that their enslavers didn't want like the head, and rib meat and some discarded bones where collected for broth or to sell at market, with permission! Any fresh fish that was caught for the enslaved's own use was in his spare time. Sweet potatoes, white potatoes ,onions, peas, beans, and various greens were either rationed, or grown in the enslaved's own garden by permission. Children during the day ate from a trough like for a pig and they all gathered around it and ate what the could using their hands, fingers, old sea shells, clam shells or old wooden spoons and usually the biggest and strongest got the most which was usually a corn meal mixture with some milk, water, salt and fat mixed together! Children with families on the plantation ate whatever the women in the family cooked at night after work was completed! The enslaved's diet was never sufficient because slave narratives from Booker T Washington, Frederick Douglas, Harriet Tubman and Harriet Jacobs all stated that as children and adults they were always hungry except on Christmas and a few rare occasions!

The information in this content is not accurate. George Washington often times beat and whip his slaves. The field slaves were never paid wages, they were forced to work from sunup to sundown, they were forced to live in crowded shacks that lacked insulation and were breeding grounds for germs. Many children died because George Washington did not allow the parents to take the children. George Washington was a vindictive thief. In 1770, a British governor in Virginia passed a resolution outlawing slavery, George Washington and other slaveholders entered a scheme to oppose the abolition of slavery. George Washington was an extremely violent, brutal, greedy man. He was a very bad Supreme Commander of the American forces. He was responsible for losing seven battles.

Slavery was at least 150 years ago. I nor anyone in living memory owned slaves! No Africa American in living memory was a slave. Being a descendant of a slave does not give you the right to judge anyone. In fact it does not give you any rights to make comments on other peoples lives 150 years ago.
