The M/V Tacoma (with sister ships Puyallup and Wenatchee) is part of the largest class of ferries in the WSF fleet, the "Jumbo Mark II" class. Each Jumbo Mark II can carry 202 cars and a total (drive-on and walk-on) of 2,499 passengers. They are 460 feet (140 meters) long and have a beam of 90 feet (27 meters). They were built in 1997, '98, and '99.

Ferry cuisine is special...that ride retuning to the city on a clear nite is brilliant. This blog has a very PNW feel for weather, obviously, more about pace. Relaxed. Glad you enjoyed the visit. I particularly like fit of the music to visual context. 😎

You were in Seattle and it was raining, just like every other day there. Thank you for a great video of something I've yet to do close enough to home that I may be able to try in the next couple of years. Thank you for the wonderful style you use on the videos you post.

Every day? Hmmmm.... If you are able to get up there , give it a try in July, August or September--they're pretty reliable for sunny weather. There are few places better than a ferry ride on a brilliant clear day. Take a look at some of the other ferry videos shot in Summer.

Hi Andrew, Very humorous dialog to open & close. Seattle is a beautiful city in the rain during the day & at night as well. The west coast ferry system operates well moving millions of passengers every year. This is an enjoyable vlog, as all your vlogs are!

Looks a lovely place to visit! Much calmer than the Isle of Wight ferry you know, where everyone is racing around trying to get their food and drink before anyone else, and with queues a mile long.

When the ferry left Seattle at the beginning you may have noticed a "small" pointy building on the right. That is the 'Smith Tower'. It was built in 1914 by Smith of the Smith Corona Typewriters. It is 38 stories high. For 42 years it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. At one time or another I've seen almost all those new buildings in downtown being built. As a young teen I played around the foundations for the Space Needle as it was being built (seen on the left).

Bainbridge is such a wonderful place to visit, eat and shop. The ferry system in Seattle area is great (IMO). Was wondering how do they compare with CalMac? Glad to see you had fun. 😊
@andrewjditton

Quite different to CalMac... bigger car decks, not quite as luxurious passenger accommodation, but both very clean and nice crews. I wonder if WSF have to cope with some of the rough seas that CalMac ferries have to cope with... looking at the design of them I'd imagine not.
@JimWorldLeader

Great video Mr D. As a dog owner, I like ferries in America and Canada, as some services will let you stay on the car deck.
@andrewjditton

That was the case here, Jim, you could stay on the car deck. I like CalMac in Scotland though as you can take the dog up into the accommodations with you too. Check out the CalMac Ferries playlist on my channel and you'll see! All the best.

Did you drive a car at all in the US? If you did, how did it feel driving in the left seat with the shifter in the right hand? Dyslexic/Lexdysic?
@andrewjditton
6 жыл бұрын
Not on this trip, but I have done many times in the past. You'd be surprised how easy it is to flip from right to left hand drive, especially as I drive a stick shift in the UK and (generally) automatics in the US, so they are just different beasts.

Why don't these ferries have protection doors from the front and back?
@ronclark9724
5 жыл бұрын
Puget Sound. The waters are relatively calm. This isn't a bay, channel, sea, or ocean. Seattle is connected to the Pacific Ocean through the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound. There is the Olympic peninsula separating Seattle from the Pacific Ocean. There is no need for protection doors.
