Transits, no matter how favorable the weather, or sea conditions, are never boring. Though Sea Venture , and your seamanship kept you safe...I cringed every time I saw debris in he water. Having sailed in the Pacific Northwest, I have a great deal of respect for anyone who will attempt an overnight passage. Thank you for incredible scenes and narration, and here's to the possibility of opening up boarders and a happier, healthier 2021. Cheers!

Gosh piece of cake and here you are in Alaska. Many years of experience, a good attitude plus thoughtful preparation and everything is seamless. Big smile regarding your tech videos, thank you. Yea learning on the road is interesting and well retained but standing on the shoulders of giants is good too. You folks have strong shoulders. All the best; as we sailors say "may all your passages be down wind".

Rosie and Jim, you two are AWESOME! Thank you so much for documenting your terrific adventures. We've been watching your videos for a couple years and find them soothing, entertaining (Blake & Barkley add so much to the flavor), and educational. We love your respectful perspective, whether it's for the Canadian government or for the hard working fisherman in Wrangle. Keep up the great "work"... Cheers!

I missed 2020 PNW boating being stuck on a deserted tropical island known as Maui, You do make good boating look easy. Your instance, I don't know many people who enjoy days boating through king tide debris fields, definitely part of NW boating. Your a great shipshape couple, well done. Yes I am! But up here in the North Pacific no one uses the SSB. We have the Icom IC-M802 on board. To us, flopper stoppers are what you attached when at anchor to keep the boat from rolling, paravanes, fish or birds are attached when cruising. Thanks for watching, Jim

35:12 Barkley: "I meant to do that, don't you DARE laugh at me!" Some of those logs off Campania were big enough to have _definitely_ made for a bad day! . I'm assuming this was done after you guys had the bulb added? I don't want to think about how seasick the kitties would have been without it! . Given the current situation, would you consider continuing west and taking the "Long Way Home" at this point in your cruising life? . I suggested to "Adventures Of A Lifetime" that they take a look at your bulbous bow video segments. They have a Nordhavn 60 on the east coast and while the vane stabilization works for _roll_ compensation, it doesn't help so much with pitching. . Be glad you're not running The Loop. From what I've heard right now it is a _ROYAL PITA_ to get through either the Trent-Severn or Welland canals for US flagged (non-commercial) vessels.

Hard to say. We certainly have had a lot of them and they have stayed around a lot longer, but it could be because it's winter, there are no other boats out cruising, or maybe it's the bulb. I think time will tell. Thanks for watching, Jim

Just finished your refit videos. Loved them. I have a Nordhavn with paravanes and I use a hook attached to the chain to retrieve the birds. I was interested in the circular device you use that seems to stay out of the water when the birds are deployed. Are they kept out of the water with some kind of lifting line attached to the end of the outrigger? Or does the circular device stay out of the water with just the proper amount of tension on the retrieval line? What exactly is the circular device? Is the circular device strong enough to bring in the birds at an idle in forward? I am assuming that when you retrieve the birds the circular device slides down the chain so it ends up next to the birds. We love our paravanes but they catch allot of debris with the Retrieval Line While underway. Rick
@CruisingSeaVenture
3 жыл бұрын
Rick, the ring is a fiberglass ring commonly used in commercial salmon fishing (I think purse seine boats use them as part of the net set up). It rides above the water and is held in place by the tension on the chain. In theory it is suppose to slide down the chain when you are pulling the line it, but in reality it never quite did it. We are trying something a little different now. We removed the ring and attached our line with a "D" ring just above the water line, basically in the same place as the ring would sit. Then we pull the rope to the boat, and then hand over hand the chain up to bring the fish up to the boat. When cruising the rope line runs out from the side of the boat to just above the water line, so it's not trailing in the water. We continue to try to think of new ways to make it easier. Hope that helps. Thanks, Jim

Suppose you decided to transit to Alaska on the seaward side, would you have to stop and clear canadian customs
@CruisingSeaVenture
3 жыл бұрын
Not if you go non-stop. Your only requirement is to notify Canadian Customs of your transit but clearance is not required since you are not "landing" in Canada, which includes anchoring. Thanks for watching, Jim

Whenever there is a storm here on the coast I see all sorts of trees that gets washed up. I've always wondered is it normal for trees to just be floating out in the ocean like that and if so how does a person avoid crashing into one?
@CruisingSeaVenture
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, avoidance just takes a sharp eye in the pilot house unless you are cruising at night. At night you just hope you don't hit one or if you do it doesn't do any damage. Thanks, Jim

@@CruisingSeaVenture sounds scary. It's even more weird to me that over here on the Washington coast that they say don't take any drift logs from the beach and don't burn them. You would think being they are a floating hazard to boaters that they should encourage people to get them off the beach so they don't float back out and sink a boat.

If there is a problem crossing thru Canada on your way home have you considered going south in international waters? I know you have the range by listening to your other videos. Is the route an International Straight which is required by Maritime law to give free passaage to transit? Article 24 prohibits coastal States from hampering the innocent passage of foreign ships through the territorial sea unless specifically authorized by other Articles of the LOSC. Coastal States are also prohibited from discriminating among States or cargoes from different nations.12 However, the LOSC permit coastal States to adopt laws and regulations related to passage through the territorial sea in the following list of circumstances: The safety of navigation and the regulation of maritime traffic; The protection of navigational aids and facilities and other facilities or installations; The protection of cables and pipelines; The conservation of the living resources of the sea; The prevention of infringement of the fisheries laws and regulations of the coastal State; The preservation of the environment of the coastal State and the prevention, reduction and control of pollution thereof; Marine scientific research and hydrographic surveys; The prevention of infringement of the customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws and regulations of the coastal State;

As a Canadian when I am in The US and want to fly a Canadian flag protocol dictates that I must fly an American flag above it or risk being fined. Why do Americans not offer Canada the same respect when they are on our soil or waterways? I see lots of folks flying only an American flag.

@@CruisingSeaVenture Thanks for the reply. In Arizona the state trooper said they have to be on the same pole with the country you are in flying on top and the foreign flag below it. They can’t be side by side for some reason. He said one warning followed by confiscation of your country flag and a fine.
@michaelpperrault

Actually Kevin this goes for any Country you are in, it's not just a Canada USA thing. When in another Country, you fly their National flag higher than the Flag of your Country. It's both courtesy and showing where you're from.
