@Susie_Floozie
2 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasszymonik5269 I noticed shifting language patterns with my big Buff Orpington hen when she went broody. She holed up in the coop for days and made high, skirling screeches like a kraken. When I got her chicks, she switched over to what I thought of as her instructional voice as she tended her peeps. She no longer spoke in her usual cadence, a pleasant mutter that I loved. I missed that. After several weeks when the peeps were becoming young punk teenagers, I was surprised to hear Goldie's pleasant mutter return. Then, after seeing her vary her speech patterns to instruct her chicks, I had to wonder...was that her default chicken language--or simply the lingo she used to communicate with me, her ape servant? These birds have surprising depth.

@@NEZLeader I got to hear my Buff Orpington hen teach her hatchlings about hawks! I'm not exaggerating. I put Goldie and her 2-week-old peeps into a curtained nesting tower for the night and turned the lights down. I could hear her still addressing the chicks in what I called her "instructional voice." Give 'em a break, I thought. Then she paused...and I heard her thrumming "hawk alert" sound. The chicks went NUTS! They squawked and flapped around in terror--I could see the black velvet curtain thrash around. She let them freak for a moment, the the instructional voice started again...then another hawk alert, with the same excited reaction! Man! I was sitting there gawping like a gobsmacked bass. Not only could I tell exactly what she was teaching them--she was doing it as *an abstract idea*. There was no hawk flying overhead, no sky...nothing but the darkness and her sounds. That made me look more closely at the way she used speech for purposeful goals. I notice social constructs in their order, too. Goldie will appoint a lesser hen to act as her herald. I learned that Jeri, a Golden Comet, would appear at times to get my attention. She'd turn and lead me to somewhere Goldie seemed to be waiting, often at a blocked pathway. I'd move the obstruction, and Goldie would cruise out followed by Jeri, who'd turn and cluck at me as she went through. When Jeri died, her sister Josie took her place as Goldie's herald. When Josie died, I noticed the mantle of herald passed on to Goldie's smallest adopted Deathlayer chick, Squatch. I'm still new to chickens--I thought they were simpleminded creatures without complexities. But four years ago, I wound up taking in a neighbor's abandoned hen, and since then Goldie and her friends have been an endlessly amazing ongoing experiment. I love these birds!

After finding out most of the ducks and geese are actually abandoned at the park and are only kept alive by random people feeding them. Makes it even more sad that they are probably starving and that's why they are so happy to see you.

Don't worry, they can mainly get by on grass, the city comes by and drops bird feed if the grass browns.

I love how at first it's just Sam but, by the end of the video all the geese seem to consider you a part of their flock. 😊 Very sweet and nice wholesome video here~ 😁

Aww. I loved raising my goose from a gosling, seeing how excited she'd get and run over to me making those noises. It's so cute.

This gosling is so precious. Her elated sprinting towards you, along with her little peeps and honks are adorable. The close-knit bond between you both has become equally rewarding; not just in regards to you two, but the entire flock itself. The other geese in her flock also learned to accept and trust your presence all because of her. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually considered you as a member of their flock.
