Sad to see the dear old Suilven like this. I had many trips on her between Stornoway and Ullapool.

In all the years she sailed the minch, she rolled about in some terrible seas, but never gave up quite sad to see her final roll is in quite calm seas and in a harbour, it's as if she said "i've had enough i'm tired and want to rest now" glad crew were rescued and all safe.

I've sailed on her a number of times in Fiji. I'm sure millions of lives were lost in that sinking, all roaches fortunately. I had a favorite place to sleep on board in an unused closet When I took my wife on it on our honeymoon she wasn't so thrilled on the crossing. She slept on the fly bridge and though it was wetter the roaches wouldn't come up there. We missed her ( me and the cockroaches) She's a sport I'll say that.

sandyt no lives were lost there were only 24 people on it at the time
Down to the seamanship of her officers and crew, she sailed in much worse conditions without a problem . Glad everyone safe sad to see such a proud ship end this way.

It seems strange that a relatively modern ship should capsize and sink whilst moored in calm water near harbour!

She was built in Norway, and the purchaser changed their mind, so Calmac got her for the Ullapool / Stornoway route!................old Tich.

She's well known in Scotland...family will all tell you similar stories about the Sulivan that she was a thoroughly uncomfortable journey!
