I think people should ease up a bit off of Judas. JESUS chose him, therefore JESUS loved him (even after he betrayed HIM), as he does us. Yes, Judas betrayed our LORD, but if he hadn't someone else would have been Judas (it had to happen for the redemption process a/k/a the cross and it's finished work). We seem to forget that although what he did (through his betrayal) was wrong, it is no different in ALL of us at one time or another betraying JESUS in our actions and deeds. We betray HIM when we do not obey his WORD even though we know what HIS WORD says for us to do (if we are Christians). Judas could have been redeemed just like Peter who denied HIM, however, Peter repented but the BIBLE does not say that Judas did. We sometimes in our remarks paint Judas as this horrible person in personality because of what he did, but is that truly the Christian thing to say or think? Romans 3:23

@@j.wesleyprice6620 That is not what I am saying at all. JESUS said that regarding him because Judas did not repent and in his unrepentent state he committed suicide, (however Peter repented). If one would interpret my comment in it's entirety, I was simply saying that we are human and make mistakes/sin daily just as Judas did, (unless we deem ourselves perfect like CHRIST, however deep down we know that notion is not true AT ALL) and also that our lives are no better than people in the BIBLE who made mistakes.

Turning the other cheek gives the person hitting you a second to pause and think about what they are doing. If they hitting you. You look them in the eye then turn your head to offer the other one. That person will pause. It defuses the situation. It leaves an opening for them to think. It puts a short circuit in their head "This isn't the way this is supposed to go, we're supposed to get in a fight!... what's going on?!" I see nothing wrong with them portraying Judas as nice. He more than likely was a nice person. There are some things I wrestle with when it comes to Judas and his punishment though. In order for Jesus' passion to come to fruition he had to be betrayed. Jesus must have known he was going to be betrayed. He also knew it was going to be Judas even before Judas knew. Judas HAD to be the one to betray him. If that's the case then how can God punish Judas for doing a deed that he had to do in order for God's plan to happen. Judas was God's plan all along. I feel it's like ordering your kid to do something bad and then spanking them when they do it.

I didn't know how I was going to bury him... I don't work, and his father and I were sharing this burden as we are no longer together. I prayed hard for God to help me find a way. Out of the blue my mother called and said she would cover my half... I called his father to tell him I would have the money by the end of the week and he told me the insurance company sent a cheque that would cover the entire cost.... My son's girlfriend had him added to her policy 2 days before he died...God knew what we needed before it even happened... God is great..all the time🙏

The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. I worked with abused, neglected & delinquent kids for 25 years before I retired. One of my all time favorite kids was a young man who came from a very weird family situation. It turned out he couldn't remain in regular or therapeutic foster homes, or even a group home because of his behavioral quirks & attitude. So he was placed into a secured therapeutic & medical center for emotional & behavioral treatment. I hated using places like that & visited the few kids I had in them often - even if it meant unpaid overtime. He was an extremely intelligent 12 year old kid with a massively high IQ but had behaviors of a 4 - 6 year old and did things just to tick people off. When I told him I knew he was smarter than he acted he would just grin. Beautiful smile! One day in the courtroom for a 6 month placement review, he asked me when he could leave the facility that had then been his home for almost 3 years! I advised him that when his behaviors stopped because he thought they were stupid or he didn't even think about doing them, not for fear of discipline but because he'd think, "Why would anyone do THAT?", it would be time for him to move on. He smiled that beautiful smile & said, "Wow! I'm gonna be there for a long time, aren't I?" I think sometimes we're a lot like that with God, and I think my believing that enabled me to successfully work with some very difficult children. What happened to him, you ask? He developed an independent relationship with his parents & moved into a regular foster home. He sang with his high school choir at Carnegie Hall in NYC 🗽 his senior year & graduated with honors and an Associates Degree from our local Jr College in the same year. He went on to obtain a PhD in hydraulics & computer network design & works on and designs big passenger jets. He's been married for 12 years and has 3 beautiful children. He's an amazing young millennial! 💖 Remember - You never know which seeds you plant will grow into healthy wheat! Just plant the seeds - God will take care of the rest. 🤗

Another insight into turn the other cheek, back in those times everyone was right handed and the left hand was unclean. Usually a backhand was used as a means to demean or insult whoever was being slapped. A palm slap was used for equals. So if you turned the other cheek so only left was shown it forced them to either use left hand which was unclean for both or to palm slap you making you an equal.

I love your input into the show first of all. This is almost a church the way it should be disciples gathered and talking about Jesus and asking questions, praying for one another, it is just the love and compassion He wants us to have. Not legalistic, no judgement, no man-imposed rules. This feels pure, as the church of old. While it is a cyber gathering you have invited us all into your home, to be a part of your family, and we have become a family. I watch and rewatch your chosen series to see the beauty in your interaction with people, rehash your insights, and contemplate my own beliefs and interpretations. The question at about 1:30:00 about do we have an issue with Judas be portrayed as a good guy. My personal opinion, and it comes through learning about who Jesus is, would be no I don't have an issue with that. There is not enough evidence into the personality of Judas (unless someone else knows of writings I have missed. Please share if you do.) Judas was confused, from my understanding, as to why Jesus was there or what He would be and that is shown in the show, but so did Zee, Simon, and several of the disciples, i.e. the sons of thunder wanting to call down fire to punish those disrespecting the King of Kings. Judas in the scriptures does value money and displays how we all have fallen short by not trusting, seeking our own desires, making Jesus what we want him to be, and many more incorrect actions and understandings. I first viewed this character as the betrayer the first time I saw these episodes through the lens of knowing what he was going to eventually do, but through meditation on the subject came to this conclusion. What was Judas's biggest mistake? Was it the betrayal? Have we not all betrayed Christ and for lack of a better way of putting it spat on the gift of grace? Did Simon not betray Christ by denying him? Mary betrayed Him, in the show, by running off and basically saying I am to broken for Him to fix (lack of faith and self judgement. If He forgives me and I don't forgive myself then I am basically saying the gift at the cross wasn't enough), We can see betrayal in all at some point and there are 4 fingers pointing at me because I am saying this with a closed fist and 4 fingers pointing at me. But where did Judas fail where so many succeed? He failed in the end by judging himself and not running to Christ for forgiveness! I think that is what the show is teaching us about Judas as well as how future episodes will show what taking matters into our own hands without reaching out to Jesus for wisdom before we act produces. Judas had to do what he did, it fulfilled prophesy, it set into motion the events that led to our salvation, it was ordained by God to happen as it did, but where He made his critical mistake was not seeking the master for forgiveness. Just my opinion. To carry it even further if we are emulating Christ and trying to be an image of Him on earth and we can't forgive then we fail, that means, and I am nowhere near this level, but it means when someone hurts my son I must forgive them, when someone hurts me I must forgive them, the sermon on the mount when I am asked I must give, I must go that extra mile, it is contrary to every possible logical thought on earth, but it is not earthly logic. Having been a Marine I really relate to Zee I want to destroy evil, but that's not my job, I relate to Simon with "When are you going to fix all this, I relate to Matthew in not understanding it all, Big James and John with when are you going to call fire down on these people, then the light comes on and i realize all people are my family, I should love them as Christ loves me, forgive them, be merciful to them, be compassionate, pray for them, teach when I can, love correction from the father, be the picture of Christ that He wants me to be and hope that on the day I leave this world He smiles, and maybe stands as he did when Stephen was stoned. Remembering to be as Stephen who asked God on behalf of the people stoning him to forgive them. Sorry about the extended post Leo, I like to write and this subject I love. I would love opinions on my insights as I am not a theologian and could be wrong in my thoughts. All comments are welcome I learn by seeing understandings of others. We learn from each other just as they did in the first church.

Two other things that may have flown under the radar is how sweetly Mary Magdalene complimented Matthew after he left. We can't forget about Mary and Matthew's relationship brewing. lol Then there's Judas' conversation with his sister. He says that if Jesus is The Messiah, then He won't be killed, which is yet another testament to the brilliant writing partially explaining (besides Satan entering him) WHY Judas' could have been motivated to identify Jesus to the soldiers. He also says he doesn't know when or IF he'll be back. We all know that he doesn't come back, but THANK GOD that Jesus died for him, too! It's just too bad he didn't hold on long enough to seek forgiveness from his brother disciples and explain to them what his reasoning was so they could write it down, tell us. Without understanding God's grace (withholding what we deserve), most people tend to have a limited view and understanding of Judas. Thank God for grace!!

I think because of the humor of the line about cinnamon cakes, we don't realize right way that Big James seemed to have missed or still has yet to 'not worry about what he will eat' as Jesus said in the Sermon. I can relate, and to not being anxious, especially about money, too (like Jesus seemed to have said to Judas, Zebedee, and Tamar in the close ups). I believe the show is trying to help us picture how Jesus viewed Judas, despite knowing that he would betray him He loved Him. Judas is human and born into sin. Remember, we betray Jesus every single day because we fall short of the glory of God every single day. The only reason we are redeemed is because God sent his son to die on the cross for our sins, we are all a million Judas' every single day but because of grace, we are saved through faith in Christ. Because of Judas sin, they took Christ to the cross so that we might be saved. It was all in Gods plan

It could have been anyone but it was Judas. Judas didn’t have on his mind to betray yashuah. No one volunteers to be the bad guy. He genuinely wanted to help. Like everyone else. It wasn’t u til he thought he was being told to be a cannible that he was disagreeing and felt that he was a false messiah. We ALL were Judas at one point. He was the example. He was playing a role. We all have denied yashuah the messiah. In one way or another. Either doing the sin. Or watching others sin and delighting in. Or having a desire to sin still in your heart even if you don’t go through with it. We all need to repent. No one is perfect. Only the Holy Spirit is. Judas as a good guy in the Chosen: Agree. He could not have been chosen as one of the 12 if he had nothing good in him from the beginning. Judas' character in episode 1 is showing his sincerity to serve God and confirming his name "God be praised with the hands" (in relation to Jesus and Judas follow-me-scene). He was ecstatic about being used by God to help the disciples secure the site (in conversation with Devorah). He took notes at the Sermon which meant his heart when he found Messiah was pure (only those with hearts like that of little children are able to understand Jesus' teachings) Jesus loved him equally as other disciples. I'm uncertain what situation The Chosen will use but I know Judas will be put in a desperate position eventually leading to the betrayal of Jesus. As humans we still have the flesh (in relation to Jesus' teaching on lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and pride of life). For Judas it involved money because that was his source of security before being Jesus' follower. But as it is written, he eventually was led to take coins from the ministry money to possibly satisfy the needs of his flesh, not knowing that this became an open door for the enemy to use him. And on the night Jesus was to be betrayed, it is written: "Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve." Luke 22:3 In one of the gospels, I remember that after Jesus was arrested, Judas was trying to undo what he did by giving back the silver coins he was paid but the elders did not want the money back. In a way I somehow get the impression that Judas was deceived by the lies of the enemy. But, prophecy had to be fulfilled and he was to be the friend who shared bread at Jesus' table only to betray Him. It's easy to judge Judas as someone evil enough to betray until we learn that we have become Judas at one time in our lives towards God. And then we realize, Judas was not as bad of a guy as we thought he was.

I disagree strongly with your ignorant and worldly statement that Judas Iscariot was a good guy and that Jesus could not have chosen Judas Iscariot as one of the twelve if there was nothing good in him. That is a worldly opinion on your part that shows how ignorant you are of spiritual things. I suggest that you read Romans chapter seven, where the apostle Paul wrote, "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwells no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not."(Romans 7:18) There was nothing good in Paul and there was nothing good in Judas Iscariot and there is nothing good in me and there is nothing good in you. Jesus didn't choose Judas Iscariot or Paul or you are me because of anything that was in Judas Iscariot or Paul or that is in you or me. Jesus choose Judas Iscariot and Paul because of what He could put in them and help them to become if they followed Him in Truth. Jesus chose you and me because of what He can put in us and what we can become if we will follow Him. Judas Iscariot ultimately chose not to follow Him in Truth. Judas Iscariot repented himself, but did not repent unto God in the faith of Jesus Christ. Paul did follow Jesus Christ in Truth and Paul did repent unto God with the faith of Jesus Christ. Paul gave up his ideas of what Messiah ought to be and accepted correction from God when it came to him. Judas Iscariot apparently never changed his mind about what Messiah should be and apparently never accepted God's correction. Will you let God correct you and help you give up your ideas of what Messiah should be and will you let Him correct you and bring you more into His Truth? Salvation is education.

“Be anxious for nothing,” have had 3 surgery’s in 3 years; and an issue with gastrointestinal, coming up. One thing I have learned in these 3 years is that “ trials test and strengthen our faith which unless tested stagnation occurs, not growth” I must be growing because the enemy is scared; if I’m focused on those “ issues”, I take my “ eyes!” off Jesus!

No I don’t have a issue at all with Judas being portrayed at being nice he may have very well been there’s gonna be plenty of nice people in hell plus who hasn’t portrayed Jesus as some point in there lives. I know we would like to believe that if we were one Jesus apostles that we would not portray him in the way Judas did but ultimately it was already determined that Judas was not Chosen & for those of us who get to heaven will be surprised by who’s missing & some that actually joined us there

Application is SO important in this Christian Discipleship journey. I pray that as we have seen Andrew apply The Word, we are inspired to do the same. We are called to be doers of The Word and not just hearers only. Humility and forgiveness are super powerful gifts!

That is unfortunate. Thank you for being respectful, I can see how this could ruin it for you. I understand the impatience though, when I am sitting in peak hour traffic I surrender to it and use the time to learn something so I will play lectures and podcasts, but not everyone enjoys it.

I believe that Judas was the antagonist amongst the disciples [12] Even so Jesus chose Judas personally. Jesus said, " You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you." Jesus is I AM and therefore knows all things. [BEFORE HAND ]

The object on the door is called a Mezuzah. It’s a piece of parchment inside of a cylindrical container. The Jews put this on their doorpost to obey God’s command In Deuteronomy 6:9 “You shall write upon the doorposts of thy house and upon thy gates”. It contains 2 verses. Deut. 6:4-9, Deut. 11:13-21 Also, I don’t have a problem with how Judas is being portrayed. In fact, they are already setting the stage for why he really did what he did. Judas, as all Jews, had been told to look for a Messiah who would come as a King, as a warrior who would deliver Israel from their enemies. At that time, the nation was suffering under the oppressive hand of the Romans. They desperately wanted that deliverance. Even through Judas did pilfer money from the group’s treasury, his reason was different with Jesus. Jesus wasn’t going in the direction of that conquering warrior Messiah. Judas grew impatient. He was convinced he could “force the hand” of Jesus to call his followers to take up arms against the Romans if Jesus was arrested. And he was deceived that his plan would work. Probably even thought he was playing the part God wanted him to play. But, in Matthew 27:1-10, when things didn’t go as he believed they would and Jesus was condemned, he realized his action of betrayal was one of delivering up innocent blood. Not only was Judas not willing to believe nor yield to the will of his God, but he took action to attempt to force God to bend to his will instead.

Peter and his brother Andrew, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, Philip and his friend Nathaniel Bartholomew, Matthew son of Alphaeus and James son of Alphaeus, Simon Zelotes and Thomas the doubtful one, Thaddeus Lebbaeus (aka Judas the brother of James and Matthew) and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and forfeited his apostolic office. Matthias was chosen by lot to take the apostolic office abandoned by Iscariot. Saul of Tarsus (aka Paul) was chosen by Jesus to be a chosen vessel of His to bear His name before Gentiles and before kings and before the children of Israel.

The "thing" on the door frame that is being kissed, going in and out, is called a Mezzuah, it's said to contain the 10 commandments. It's placed on the door of all Jew. It is also said to represent "the blood over the doorpost/lintels". Yah says "when I see the blood, I'll pass over you". So the Mezzuah speaks volumes.😊

You asked a poignant question- How are we sons & daughters of our heavenly Father by turning the other cheek, giving you coat to someone who sues you for your shirt, loving your enemies and praying fornthise who persecute you? It's because God our Father does this for us all everyday. His love does not discriminate. He causes the rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike. He causes the sun to rise and shine on the whole warth. He sent His Son to DIE for the sins of the whole world wether they believe in Him or not, so by doing all those things that Jesus said, we are being like Him (Jesus) who did the will of The Father and we demonstrate our own son-ship. Jesus was our perfect example by praying for the forgiveness of those who were literally killing Him when He said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." Oh, that we may be like Jesus. I also love love love what you said about leaving things behind which includes our behaviour, our reputation, our memory, besides our physical possesions. That was beautiful and inspired. Thank you for sharing that, Brother.

Judas' problem was he always loved money more than Jesus. "You cannot love God and money. You will love one and hate the other." Judas never hated Jesus, but his actions were the opposite of love, which, when coming to fruition, is hate. There's no middle ground in Gods' kingdom.

There are more than a couple of things to consider with Judas. The bad news first. His repentance in Matthew 27:3 is the Greek word METAMELOMAI not METANOEO. The latter word is sincere repentance. The former refers to regret of consequences. In other words it's rooted in fear. The good news is Jesus died for all. I don't believe in the afterlife nor ECT. It seems clear to me neither did Judas. If he truly believed he was doomed to go to hell when he died, why hasten it? I can speak from experience. When you're more confident in your hellish doom than you've ever been in anything else you're not wanting to die anytime soon no matter how futile that is compared to eternity. No one, believing those doctrines, would hasten their death. I'm confident of that, especially since what Judas felt was fear of consequences(metamelomai).

I know this is a year old, but I’m watching this episode of yours right now. You asked what did Jesus mean when he said “turn the cheek” and “give them your cloak too”. I just HAVE to give you an answer even though it’s a year later. A specific point is to stop focusing so much on this world, material possessions and suffering because when your focus is on Him you can be joyful no matter what situation you’re in. The broader point of the whole sermon was that we need a savior! The Jews had strayed from God, but since they were “following the law” they didn’t realize how far they had slid away. God told Hosea the prophet to marry a prostitute to show the Jews how He felt about them; that He felt like they were cheating on Him with the pagan gods. So Jesus is trying to remind them of the real law, but most importantly that it’s impossible for anyone to be able to keep the law perfectly for their whole life. The Pharisees thought they were perfectly following the law, but they needed to be corrected. Once you break one law you’ve broken them all. Jesus came to fulfill the law for us because He’s the only one who can. He is our righteousness. What we think as righteous is like filthy rags to God, but Jesus covers us with His righteousness to make us holy before God.

Jesus chose Judas because Judas had to fulfill the prophecy of being betrayed! That's why Jesus told him to go and do what he needed to do! The Muzuzah holds a small parchment with a prayer that all jews touch going in and out of home or work!

I love your heart, but look at Jesus when the disciples said to him, we have left everything he told them, they would have a reward ( also persecution) but also a reward Mark 10;28,29. I am sure they left things behind with the right heart attitude, but there will be times of testing and Jesus is comforting us by saying you will get a reward in Heaven.

Judas is a human type of Lucifer/Satan the devil. Jesus the Word by whom God the Father created all things loved Lucifer, even after Lucifer betrayed Him and the Father and led one third of the angels into the first rebellion against God's government. Satan is God's servant and man's adversary by the will of God. Satan plays an important part in God's plan for man by stirring up human nature so that man may build the perfect righteous character of God and attain unto the kingdom of God by overcoming the world, his own human nature, and the devil. The fact that the devil is used by God for the good of the chosen of God does not mean that he is not deserving of punishment for his wilful rejection of God's government. The same is true of Judas Iscariot. He had the opportunity to believe in Jesus Christ and receive salvation, but wilfully rejected it just as Lucifer did and so is worthy of condemnation just as the devil did. Just because God new that one third of the angels would choose to become evil does not mean that those angels had to choose evil. Just because God knew that one of the twelve apostles would choose to betray Jesus does not mean that Judas had to betray Jesus. We have freewill and God knows how we will use freewill. I'm not saying that Judas cannot be forgiven if he will repent at the great white throne altar call. That's for God to decide. I'm saying that Judas Iscariot is as worthy of condemnation as is the devil. So are we all. But by the grace of God paid for by the shed blood of Jesus Christ we all can be forgiven if we will receive it by faith and repentance unto God.

Judas betrayed Jesus. Peter betrayed Jesus. We have all betrayed Jesus one day. And it's ok to make mistake. But the only difference with Judas is that he didn't trust that Jesus could forgive him. And he committed suicide.

The passage is about how God loves us. We are enemies of God before we're saved, but he loves us when we were enemies with him. We ask God for prosperity and blessing, but God gives us salvation too, which is infinitely more important and the larger gift. We attack God and he doesn't seek retribution immediately. He turns his cheek to us and shows us patience. We ask God to get us out of trials, and he gets us out and also gives us blessings. He goes the extra mile. Jesus is teaching us to treat people the way God loves humanity. With patience, generosity, love, and an eternal perspective. We're sons of God when we treat humanity the way God treats them. We're children of God when we act like our dad. ❤️

In his beginning with Jesus, Judas was a confirmed believer that Jesus was the Messiah.. However, he believed as most Jews of that time, and many of the other disciples, that the Messiah would come, defeat their enemies, and establish an eternal earthly kingdom.. They had no concept that His eternal kingdom would only come after defeating God's ultimate enemy.. It was only later when Judas realized Jesus was not building a current earthly kingdom of Israel that he allowed satan to enter his thoughts and heart.

I have no issue portraying Judas nice, no one is through and through evil or is unfriendly or not nice, only if the devils wins and they do bad things. God made us different, and if we have nice things to show or good character, is from him anyone. We are not good anyway.

Regarding Judas.... at that time, vinyl Jesus knew the path of Judas. We already know so we have thoughts that are cringe worthy. However, as sad as it is, it had to be carried out. So, even Judas at that time did not know that he was pre appointed to be the betrayer. I've seen that pastors and the like have spoken against The Chosen. I personally find it refreshing, like it's personal.
