Thursday boots are honestly pretty subpar, made in Mexico, and the leather tends to look kind of shiny and cheap like a boot you would buy at Aldo or something. If you want a nicer pair of boots at the same price point look at Taft boots. If you can spend a little more look at Grant Stone.

Thursday boots are good starting boots. They are not comfortable after 2-3 hrs. Great construction, however, the insole is synthetic. Leather insoles provide the best comfort. If short on cash and need a good boot, Thursday is a good choice. If you’re killing it financially, skip Thursday.

I've heard some folks observe that the single best clothing related indicator of a man's level of class is his footwear, so I think you make a good point, James, don't skimp on the shoes or boots. I'm not much for wearing suits, so my go-to boots during winter here in Boston are the Iron Ranger from Red Wing. I've seen Thursday boots, and they too are excellent.

Great advice on footwear. As a Chicago resident, boots are de riguer when the weather cools down. Rubber soles can vary. The Dainite soles on the chukkas you show are hard and long-wearing like Vibram lug soles on my hunting boots. Aspen Gumlite soles are softer than Dainite and wear out faster but provide good grip on wet sidewalks. Last year, I purchased a pair of Crockett & Jones scotch grain derby boots in London. Although pricey, I expect them to last a very long time (I’m 72 now). My Russell Moccasin hunting boots are twelve years old and they have received so much abuse but good shoe care has kept them going.

Looking sharp as hell, James, these pieces came together so well. This is video-chocolate to me, I am so fond of shoes. So I love seeing familiar channels talk about them. In particular, there's something so comforting and entertaining about seasonal shoe videos, the rotation of different shoe discussions as the year progresses. As usual, this was somehow leisurely and to-the-point at the same time. Congrats on another sponsorship from Thursday. They really are changing the affordable shoe game. I am so fond of both my Thursday double monks and Thursday boots. Enjoy fall and, soon enough, winter. They're both such cozily beautiful seasons and an opportunity to enjoy layering up.

It's hard to know the motivation of the guys who started Thursday boots, but Goodyear welted leather boots existed before Thursday. Take the Iron Ranger by Redwing, which is made in Port Wing, Wisconsin. Redwing even has their own tannery. Thursday produces in Mexico, and uses less expensive materials, more foam, etc. So yes, it costs less. They did in fact make good year welted boots less expensive, there's no doubt about that. That said, when something lasts 30 years like a high quality good year welted boot like the Iron Ranger, do we really need to concern ourselves with a $160 savings? I think not. Thursdays do make a more refined boot, and break in much faster due to some of the synthetic and thinner materials. Iron Rangers are so initially stiff that you could drive a nail with them, but that's the quality. A real if leather boot will be difficult to break in. If I ever buy another pair of boots, it will probably be something like Trickers or another heritage brand.

I too can confirm that bad cheap shoes are best avoided. I have a pair of leather penny loafers from Zara that I got half a year ago, and there is a stitch that wasn't done right since I got them. A few weeks later that stich fell apart and since then I tried to glue multiple times that said part (next to the shoe tongue), but it always gets loose. I had and have a very tight budget, and this makes it almost impossible to find good shoes (unless bought second hand), but I can surely agree that shoes need to be more expensive, because all the parameters that are alligned with a good pair of shoes add up to the cost. On the other hand, I have a pair of black chelsea boots that are a year old now and still look like I've just bought them. They are very warm and very stylish. I wore them with outfits that range from a simple combination of sweater and trousers, to a double breasted navy suit with a tie. Of course, they did cost me a pretty penny, but it was well worth it, and I did learn my lesson with buying cheap shoes. Great video James, I hope it will be helpful to other gentlemen when choosing their boots !

I am not opposed to Zara, H&M etc. when it comes to casual wear but I would never recommend any man to buy his shoes from these places, regardless of his budget. Their shoes are glued or stitched very poorly and will never last more than a year or two. Good to see you here Tudor. I'm glad you're enjoying your Chelseas.

I will vouch for Thursday Boot Co. I discovered them about a year and a half ago and have bought 4 pairs since then. I have leather Duke chelseas, suede Cavalier chelseas (sleeker and dressier than the Dukes), and suede chukkas, all of which I have worn a LOT. I also bought my black cap-toe oxfords to wear with formal suits from Thursday. I am very impressed with the quality and the price point. The last pair of boots I bought are Loake 1880 dress boots that I found at an absolute bargain price. I think I’m set for boots now for a very long time.

the construction I always look for in a boot, is a closed gusset, otherwise in rain, slow, or other adverse conditions the 'elements' will get into the boot, resulting in wet feet. or debris into the boot Chelsea with their elastic side panels will result in wet inside the boot. none of the items shown address this issue

Great video as always. Just a couple quick corrections or clarifications: 1) wingtips have traditionally been considered casual boots, although I do get that they're dressier thanthe work boot counterpart; 2) the boots shown at the 6:56 mark are not Balmorals, as the latter have the upper pattern of Oxford shoes

Most important, get NATURAL FABRIC/LEATHER uppers !!! (Thursday Boots has the right idea) Leather uppers are so much more comfortable because they "breathe", balancing moisture inside. Don't cheap out; Reject "man-made" uppers which are absolutely horrible. Man-made uppers makes your feet sweat and stink and get mouldy, and wet feet means cold feet. *Get natural material uppers, and take care of them!* Wipe off the salt on a snowbank, and indoors, wipe off as much salt as possible, give a quick rinse (on the outside of the boot of course) and let them dry. Brush off any residual salt with a rag, and polish your boots with a good quality polish or cream, because a boot that is lightly moisturized with polish (which could contain oils and maybe wax) will last longer, look better, and be less likely to pull salty solutions into the leather, and it makes the boots easier to clean next time. For me, a side-pull zipper is comfortable. I've had my boots over 15 years in big city Toronto, where they put a lot of salt on the roads and sidewalks, and they 're still good as new.

I currently own Alden Indy’s. Two pairs. The J.Crew collaboration with lug sole and rough out leather in brown; and the original light brown/tan. Most comfortable boots I have owned in this style. My Lucchesse, and Tony Lama, cowboy boots are the most comfortable. If I was a young buck, making 2nd Lieutenant to Captain bucks, I would likely take a hard look at Thursday Boots. P.S. I just picked up a pair of Iron Rangers, in black, the 2024 edition. The sole has a low key lug. I haven’t worn them, yet, but they seem to be very comfortable and look great in jeans

Chelsea: the key is tight fit because there are no laces. Don't compromise on the fit! Chelsea boots work at almost any formality level. Salt on streets and walkways during winter will completely trash your leather shoes. In these conditions, you want rubber overshoes or dedicated winter boots like wellingtons or bean hunting boots.
@SaschaStradtmann
Күн бұрын
It may sound crazy, but my preferred winter boots are neoprene lined rubber rain boots (wellies). The problem with leather boots is that no matter how well you impregnate them, snow and rain will ultimetaly win and ruin them. Not to mention road salt. Plus, where I live temperatures fall to minus 20 degress centigrade (-4 F). No chance to stand these temperatures with the boots mentioned in this video. So how do you pull it off to wear insulated wellies in winter and still maintain your gentlmen's attitude? First, buy wellies only from established traditional brands such as Aigle or LeChameau. They offer good value for money and are recognized as old money fashion icons by those who know (pretty much like a Barbour jacket). Second, match the rest of your outfit so you get the classic old money country fashion look.

They are 100 percent made in America just north of Chicago in Port Washington Wisconsin. Unlike Thursday boots you don’t have to go to New York to try one on for fit .
