I really want to get into tabletop gaming and D&D, but the character creation process always seemed daunting and overwhelmingly confusing. I'm still not sure I understand it all the way, but this was definitely a step in the right direction for me. Thanks, Dave!!

This is a pretty cool video! I really liked being able to see the character creation process without over-explanation, (which isn't bad it's just a nice change of pace) I'd love to see more like it!

yea all the other video's i've watched made it seem really complicated, so me and my friends got into cogent instead, but now i've seen this video and apparently its not actually all that complex, and i enjoy playing both games with friends

I think this video is fine the way it is. DND is a very difficult game to get into, if one never experienced TTRPGs before. I had difficulty, when I was new. The detailed character sheet alone can be intimidating. The thorough explanation of the video is a good thing. Beginners need all the help they can get.

I really like you presenting us with the different ways of character creation. I honestly learned a lot. This video had a little bit too much info for my tiny brain with focus and attention related problems, but that's just my everyday life. My only complaint is that this didn't really cover the basics of how to find the descriptions of races and classes so since I don't have the base I was kind of confused, but I'll definitelly come back to this after a bit more research.

Using pen to fill in the paper sheet makes my soul hurt! Ik its for a one shot, but I think my DM would kill me if I showed up with my sheet written in pen !

One of my players types his character sheets. And then doesn't make a new one when he levels up he crosses out the numbers and writes them again in pen. True Evil.

I tend to fill in any features that are irreplaceable (Character bio and descriptions, names, class levels, various features, feats, attributes if I'm not expecting to change them within 20 sessions e.t.c) out in pen, with my more temporary stats (HP, AC, and generally things I'm expecting to interchange on a fairly regular basis.) in pencil. I find that over time pencil fades and gets smuged so I find pen just more satisfying and permanent to write with. It also locks in some decisions for me so that I can't change my mind later on a whim; like with some character decisions.

I tried multiple options for my character sheets and ended up preferring the PDF, but I don't print it. Instead, I copy it on my tablet and use it from there. I also have a small notebook and a pencil on hand if needed, but I never had to use it for myself. Also, for point buy and other things, like verifying if I forgot to add something to my character sheet, generating backgrounds, DM screens showing stat blocks that I intend to use when I DM and just for searching stuff up as needed I use 5e.tools

I think it’s just for the one shot and to get some dnd people looking at cogent and table top time I think it’s a good idea cause most people playing cogent know dnd and rpg well. Cogent is harder to dm but easier to play so new Gm more likely doing dnd and this will get them into cogent :)

Lol, fillable sheets you don't like because you can't change the variety of stats that will change. Yet you filled out your printed sheet in pen. Also, no to Beyond. There are several other character sheet creators/databases you can find online without having to respend money on an official digital database.
