Man I just went through a similar experience with my 2020 790 Adventure. I bought it brand new and within the first 500 miles it started leaking oil from somewhere at the top of the engine. A small leak that didn’t prevent me from riding the bike, but still frustrating considering it was a brand new $13K motorcycle. About a year later I decide to take it to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty. It ended up needing a new valve cover gasket and it took 5 MONTHS to get the parts from KTM. The worst part is that the bike sat at the dealer the entire time because they had to take it apart to diagnose the issue. I agree with you though, KTM makes unbelievable motorcycles, but hopefully you never need to do anything outside of routine maintenance on them.

I started watching YN in 2021, the same time I started riding. I felt it was the best info at the time, but I always kinda thought that Yam was a bit opinionated (D) but funny. I admit that over time I grew to like him a lot, and the entire channel Josh, Courtney…all were great. But really? That last video was such a turn off…indulgent, awkward, I don’t know if Yam was bragging about letting you go cause he’s so successful? I don’t know? He even put it in the title (let him go). He should have made you a partner…like a substantial partner (35% or more). Spite If you were supportive or on board with that last video, fine, but I was not and many of YOUR fans were NOT. I’m here now because I have a feeling Yam did you wrong. I noticed you never once said to Yam thanks for the opportunity, it’s been great working here, none of that. Your heart was with your fans only, not with Yam. BEST OF LUCK

Every second sentence you hear from a motorcycle shop is a lie. If you are at the mercy of a really really shitty one, you are even more screwed. If a shop gets something like in your case, a really problematic or complicated repair, or parts you need which are not available, they will most likely delay the repair on purpose, because with other things they can make more and quicker money. Sometimes they wait so long that the owner will pick his broken bike up and will never come back. Which is best case for the shop and worse case for the owner.

Nothing that happened to you had anything to do with KTM. Leaving your bike outside in an apartment complex is not bad luck; you know how that story always ends. You had bad luck via crackhead. You had bad luck via covid. Your dealer was slow with the assembly. The actual frame is the only thing that was KTM's responsibility. They got that to you in little more than a couple months. A frame. On a limited run bike. Throughout the Covid panic, KTM supply chain was absolutely incomparable to the Japanese. I bought a Tenere in 2020 when they first came out and I still have parts for that on back order. I have a friend who has had throttle cables for a PW50 on backorder for two years. We were both Yamaha employees(front of the line)! Listen, I commiserate with you fully on the theft attempts. I have lost several bikes that way., And I don't even blame you for losing some enthusiasm for the SMC. Instead of blaming KTM, I think the right thing to do now is to order a Duke 890, rent a place with a garage, and go do that track day!

I only just started giving supermotos a serious look. I don't want to change the oil on a CRF-450RL every couple of weeks, so this bike was tempting because of the maintenance intervals. KTM made my next door neighbor a motorcycle mechanic because the two he had were extremely unreliable, so between that and your experience, I know I don't feel like going through all of that bullshit. It's the first time in a long time KTM got me interested, only for reality to set in shortly after like it has before. I don't find any other supermoto interesting enough, mainly because of the seat and gas tank.

Oh man i can feel your frustration. I was just talking to a friend about this exact supermoto this evening. We both own KTMs and still ride it. Ironically my RC has been in the shop for 8 months as well cause my engine gearings blew up while riding back in November 2021.. luckily my warranty covered the damage. Anyhoo I've been watching you from the other channel since you started there but count on it that i will be watching here religiously and so will many others for sure. P.S. to my frustration with KTM. I bought myself another bike instead to fill in the void that it left behind for 8 months while waiting for the parts arrive.. It only took me 1 month of following up on my parts to eventually give up and buy another bike. Fastforward to August 2022. I just got my KTM RC back 1 month ago after i did a full on Karen as well on the General Manager. Suddenly 2 weeks after my parts arrived and it got fixed. I love my KTM it looks great and performs well! But the aftersales service is just so bad. You're right. I wouldn't recommend the KTM to anyone out of good conscience.

I share your pain w ktm when it comes to the amount of time it takes to get parts for my 390 Duke . I ordered two washers and it took 3 weeks to get those washers. A rear tire two a month and a half. A kick stand is ordered and am currently two weeks and waiting. Partly a dealer issue too. Not as bad as your situation but man. Their parts take FOR EVER to arrive to my dealer. I’ve had this bike for a little over one year and I’ve had more issues than I’d care to elaborate on when it comes to the engine and my dash just turning off mid ride . A little over a year and my kickstand rusted and cracked right in the middle. It wouldn’t be too big an issue if this bike wasn’t my daily. A wee disappointed 😐. All that said Spite, great video man.

The lesson is ,take the entire front of the biker apart . Take it to the local welder. Have them pop the cracks in the frame with some welding rod, for about fifty bucks Sand it, paint it and put the bike back together. It should not be that way but dammit it is. It also helps if you put a lockable bike cover on the bike. I wish they made these out of kevlar. A heavy duty fabric cover slows down the thief and exposes to others what they are doing. By it's nature, a secured motorcycle cover slows down theft. Also being able to run a cable lock to some fixed pole or fence also slows down thieves. They don't like to have to work to steal a motorcycle. A long time ago, I had a chain I put on my KZ550 when I parked it for the night. I wrapped the chain around my back rim and through the steel rail on the front porch of my apartment. One night , I was sitting in my living room of my apartment and heard the chain go 'CHING!". I went out and found the chain tight as hell and the bike moved forward about a foot. The dirtbag had found out, I don't make theft easy. I slept in the living room for the next couple of nights but not too well. Bastard turned out to be a 'friend' of mine too. Ex friend let's say. I have always owned things people want to steal. I have a 5x8 trailer that I chain both tires though the slots in the wheels through the leaf springs to keep them from disappearing one night and a chain I wrap around a steel pole in back yard to keep the trailer from being stolen. Judging by the three times that chain has moved super tight , three thieves have found out ,this is going nowhere for free. This is all defeatable but anything is. The question is, do they want to use noisy tools when the homeowner is armed. Anything you own , you have to think like a thief and then do everything to make a thief look somewhere else to steal. We used to hang horse thiefs. I understand why.

It seemed to me that ever since I got this bike I kept having bad lucks one after another. I had a DRZ400SM before this. I spent more time going back and forth between dealer which is 110 miles away than ride it. 2 days after getting the bike, I notice the left shroud is closer to the fork than the right one. I found the radiator brackets are bent. I sent pictures to the dealer and called and they wanted me to ride 2 hours back to them so they could "look at it" then another 2 hours to ride back. So I did but I felt the long trip was completely unnecessary since I had pictures. They didn't even have pick up option available. After they looked at it, they claimed it was damaged during shipment and ordered parts from KTM. I was mainly a cosmetic damage but I bought a brand new bike so even though it was rideable it still triggered my OCD. In the meantime I wanted to get my first oil change done. After draining the oil, as I was screwing back my oil filter cap on the left side, I broke the screw by over tightening it. the other half was stuck in the thread and I didn't wanna attempt to extract it myself and cause even more damage. I called the dealer but like I said before, they didn't have pick up option so I had to figure out a way to take it there. I couldn't ride it because obviously there's no oil in it. I rented an Uhaul pickup and trailer for 24 hours which cost me close to $400 and some more money for ratchet strap. This was my first time using ratchet to tie down a bike and it took me some time to figure out. I drop the bike off. Over a month has gone by and I still don't get a call from them. I call them and talk to them in a passive aggressive manner and they say they're still waiting for the radiator to arrive. 2 days later they say it's fixed and I could pick it up. I get a sigh of relief and get an Uber next day there to pick it up. Uber cost me another $200. I finally ride the bike home 110 miles and on my way I notice the engine overheat light keeps coming up when I stop at lights and I could feel the engine over heating. At this point I can't ride it back to the dealer because they'll be closed when I go back. So my only option is to go home and take it to the dealer again some other day to fix it. I tried to turn it off at lights to prevent it from overheating when riding home. At high speed the light goes away because the air cools it down. I call the dealer the next morning and ride it back 2 hours again. They say they forgot to plug in the radiator fan plug when installing the new radiator. They fix the issue and I ride it back. Now the radiator and oil filter cap is finally fixed and I could finally move on to installing mods. I make an appointment with another dealer which is "motorcycle mall" in New Jersey to install a preload adjuster. After a week I get the part installed for $380 and I provide them the part I bought. As soon as I receive it, I notice a few deep scratches on the beautiful trellis frame which looked like someone hammered on it. I told the employees immediately and they took pictures of it and said they'd call me after they review before pictures of it. Luckily I had a before picture of it from the day before. Weeks go by no call from the dealer. I had called them multiple times since then and every time they say the manager will call me back but it never happens. The employees talk in a rude manner saying "it's still rideable" to which I reply, "if I smacked one of your bikes in the show room with a hammer and said "it's still rideable" would you just let me walk away without any consequences? I've heard horror stories about that dealer from someone else in my area who also rides a 690. They serviced his engine and put water instead of coolant. I still haven't heard back from the manager. Days later I notice a slow leak on my rear tire. I didn't wanna deal with the other 2 dealers so I took it to a 3rd dealer. They keep the bike in their shop for a month only to tell me the rim band for rear tire still hasn't arrived. I sent another $200 to pick up the bike that hasn't even been fixed. I ordered the bike in May and now riding season is over and I probably got 2 or 3 days of riding out of it the whole summer.

Top tip. 1. Don’t use the steering lock when the bike is outside your house. 2. Get rid of the fixed disc lock. If the thief manages to cut through your locked chain then there is nothing to indicate that a disc lock is fitted so the thief will drop it as he tries to ride off and then it will be trashed again. The bike is insured so unless that crap cuts your insurance premiums take it off.

Replacing the frame would be a very long lead time repair on ANY motorcycle these days. The moral of this story is to park your bike in a safe place (garage, shed, inside your house, back yard out of sight under a cover, etc etc). Supermotos are targets for thieves.

THE KTM to have is the 500EXC......but I live in Central Oz and we have a lot of dirt to stuff around on. At the moment I have a DRZ400 and an older RM250. Almost bought a road bike, a 2015-ish CR650F. Looking forward to your reviews of anything on two wheels.

Here's my take away. Don't lock the steering. You'd be better off if the bike was stolen. Then you'd be out your $750 deductible and you'd be riding a new bike.

Exact same thing happened to me about 5 months ago, steering lock broken, disc lock broken and found by police an hour later due to Monimoto. Still waiting on a yoke as I have an aprilia and it’s NEVER in stock and has been in back order for 5 months. PS. This is UKA1BOI soon to be A2 boi if you’re wondering where I’ve been

KTMs are awesome bikes specs wise but too expensive (not even including ECU locks) and too many electronic issues. I had a 2018 1290 Superduke R for a couple of years and it was always throwing errors codes and I've heard similar complaints from the enduro side as well. I've got a Fantic 250 now and the simplicity is great. I can literally replace the entire wiring loom in 5 minutes.

Ktm don’t seal wiring properly, if you use them in the rain & everything isn’t siliconed or weather sealed… all terminals corrode & lead to this. Raced them for 20 years get x2 new bikes a year & they’ve always been the same… that’s mx bikes to so should be more weather proof but they aren’t.

Hey Spite, just as I said, after watching your out-tro from Yam's channel, Subbed ..... Anywho just some thoughts from me..... Change your "About" page to really match your channels direction...... It has changed somewhat from my standpoint after having you at YN for 2+ yrs..... It might not flow with your intentions , but putting the muster on the cruiser end of things, ( whereas Yam always wants ball-busting rpm's), would be a good thing where us cruiser folk might want to know about the latest and greatest from the V-twin aftermarket do-dads or upgrades, etc. Dyno-specs for non Harley bikes, say Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki cruisers, that you just don't see on YT...... I could go on about YT's areas of Lackiness.... but hey..... Why spoil your fun... Stay Safe. ..... ciao.

100% agree with proceeding with caution when buying a KTM right now. Been waiting 7 months for my duke to be fixed. Didn't even have my duke for a year and the entire engine needed to be replaced. I get that isn't a quick fix but 7 months is a joke. And to say my experience with KTM and the dealership wasn't a pleasant one is a huge understatement
