I bought a HX Stomp. Then, it just grew itself.... I calculated all the pedals, cables, power supply, all those stuffs found out I could have had Quad Cortex and a change Not that I hate by board. I'm loving it! Might need to downsize it one day tho. 17*12.5 inches are a bit bigger than what I initially thought my board to be. I'm thinking of super simple 3 pedal mini board with Cioks4 and a power bank so I can busk around.

I made a circle of sorts. I bought a stomp and used it for a while until I realized two drawbacks: 1) I don’t have money invested in pedals so my effects chain was lacking and 2) I really wanted a built in volume/expression pedal. Once I came to that realization, I bought a used LT. I love the versatility and power the LT brings, but it’s bulky. I transport it 2-3 times per week. But even then, its perfect for me. As I spent more and more time with the LT, I started to realize some of the capabilities the stomp had that I just didn’t understand, so around January I decided if I could find a cheap stomp I’d add it to my stable. And then I found one. I’m working to have it set up as a lighter/easier acoustic board, but realized a Jet Micro was needed, which means I need it on a board and with a power supply. I’m using my old board and supply, but it’s bigger than I want and I hope to go smaller in the near future. All that to say, I think the right answer for anyone looking is to get one of each. That’s the only answer, right?

My journey started with a full pedalboard and a Strymon Iridium for amp modeling. I decided I wanted the additional amps and flexibility of the Stomp along with its built-in modulation effects. I sold the Iridium, removed the modulation pedals from my board, and added the Stomp. After a few months, I’ve decided that the Stomp sounds fantastic as a modeler (thank you, HWL expanse pack). I love it. I also now use it as a standalone acoustic guitar pedal. What I don’t love is that it’s just too much trouble to arrange all the presets to easily access multiple modulation blocks in a live setting, even with MIDI. Also, the FX loop of the Stomp is nice but difficult to work into presets while maintaining good tone. So, I have decided that I’ll be buying a multi-effects modulation unit to add to the board. Fewer overall pedals than I used to have but an addition to the Stomp in that regard. The money will come from selling some unused pedals. I did just get a Helix Floor loaned to me indefinitely. I can immediately see the benefits of the larger, more powerful unit and how it could be a great standalone unit. I simply like my drive, delay, and reverb pedals too much to jettison them!

heya, i am a singer-songwriter and play live sets. current setup is Egtr/AccGtr plus Boss RC-3 & FS-7 footswitch. My main reason for wanting the HX stomp is I can use it standalone with a PA system, so I don't need to bring my own amp to gigs (don't have a car), and as a multi-fx pedal, I do not want to have to carry too many single pedals, - I am very new to gear buying. Additionally I want to be able to change presets with ease during a live performance and so I am wondering what you meant here "it’s just too much trouble to arrange all the presets to easily access multiple modulation blocks in a live setting, even with MIDI." By "modulation Block" I assume you mean a preset with modulation effects on it? Would it not be possible to simply arrange the modulation blocks beforehand and then use a Footswitch to change presets live while performing? Any answers would be great!
@ORFisHome

@@taliesinmusic Hi Taliesin. I hope I didn't lead you too far astray with my comment. Based on what you described for your setup and needs, I think the Stomp could be perfect. You likely have a few sets that you play regularly. If so, you could set up your presets and modulations blocks and walk through them using a footswitch with no trouble at all. The Stomp would be a great all-in-one solution for you! It's really magical. On the other hand, I am primarily a P&W electric guitarist, and my sets change every week. I use multiple presets and different effects by song. In addition, I use the Stomp primarily as an amp simulator and not for its modulation, reverb, or delay effects. I have other pedals for those effects. Therefore, I'd have to modify each Stomp preset and its blocks to allow for those effects as needed. That's a longer process than I'm willing to go through! :)

I enjoyed the stomp while I had it (along with outboard reverbs to save DSP) but ended up having more fun with the Boss GT-1000 core as the heart of my sounds when I play out and not running into DSP limits. I did keep the discounted helix native plugin though and have been playing around with using it through a DAW and Audio Interface with a pirate midi controller and expression pedal for something a little different.

I went both ways I owned a helix floor for a couple years loved it but aways found a problem with having every effect but not having all the dsp to use them. I felt like a kid in a candy story with a small bag that i was only give premission to fill that bag, but wasnt able to have what i wanted with out missing out on what i could have had. intill just last Christmas I bought a hx stomp and was using that with my two strymon pedals, (bigsky and timeline) intill I got inspired to use the hx stomp to its fullest Potential by watching your videos. So I stripped my board and bought 2 jackson audio pedals, (asabi and the bloom), along with my polytuner and a dual switch for present up and down. I use the asabi as overdrive 1 and distortion 1, along with the bloom with a boost a 3 band eq and 5 different clipping of compression at my choosing. I use my stomp with snap shot 1,2,3 with the dual switcher controlling presets up and down, allowing me to use reverb and delays and modulations from the stomp or other drives from the stomp but still keeping the proper path of effects. I have found this the most fun because with having real pedals on my board it means I will always have those effect as I switch throughout presets, meaning i dont have to waste dsp on a compressor, eq, or boost, along with a overdrive and a distortion, (the pedals on my board do these 5 effects) before the hx stomp. which a helix you can add pedals but remember the cost of a helix to a hx stomp. So you can say I'm a fan of my mini worship board. I also use the expance pack by HEYWORSHIPLEADER on my stomp. Just saying. 😉

@literalghost929
2 жыл бұрын
Wait... It's just more blocks though, as mentioned, no DSP. So you're likely not going to be able to use the full effects blocks. Ex; I have a Pod Go. I think it has 4 blocks. BUT, you can't even use the 4 blocks normally, as many of the effects cost cost more than ~30% of the DSP. Ex: Hiwatt® DR-103 Brill amp-guitar 35.05% Shimmer Line 6 Original reverb hx 24.00% Dynamic Plate Line 6 Original reverb hx 24.00% So basically, just using this amp and those 2 effects, you're using ~85% of the DSP, so even if you have 5 more blocks, you'll have maybe 50% of the effects greyed out because they use more than 15% of the DSP. And once you add an effect which costs 8%, maybe 80% of the effects get greyed out and you can only add certain low DSP effects... But lets say you want the poly sustain: Ex: Hiwatt® DR-103 Brill amp-guitar 35.05% Poly Sustain Line 6 Original delay hx 53.33% Then you can't even add a 3rd effect because already you're nearly using ~90% of the DSP, so you couldn't add for instance; Shimmer Line 6 Original reverb hx 24.00%

@@RobertJonEckhardt Yes, to give you an example of how you can run out of DSP power I used high DSP effects, duh Buy what you want, I don't care, I'm telling you as a Pod Go user, you will often run out of DSP with 4 blocks. Great video can’t wait to see the studio. When I ordered my stomp xl I was trying to downsize from a massive board, that I had been blessed with by buying and selling gear on eBay. I had pretty much broke completely even money wise (again blessed, and I think that most of this was done during Covid helped). My wife got me a used nemesis delay and I just purchased the ventris reverb, source audio is great as well. 750$ stomp xl (they are now 650$), 120$ kingmaker fuzz, 27$ musky silver horse, 180$ nemesis, 250$ ventris, 100$ mooer radar, 100$ neuro hub, 60$ eqd expression ramper, 30$ vexpress x2, so I’m at 1,647$ just in pedals, I’m sure I probably have 100$-150$ in cables and power, but most of these pedals I had before the purchase of the stomp, and even though I’m putting the prices I paid, I did sell and trade to get the money to purchase those, the kingmaker, radar, and vexpress pedals as well as all the cabling was pretty much free and clear even the stomp I had 400$ from selling gear, so I’ll say again I was blessed.

I have the Helix LT and it's a bit heavy and uncomfortable to carry it to your gigs or rehearsal rooms if you don't have a car, for example if you use public transport like me. I've been carrying it inside a pedalboard case and that causes fatigue on your wrists and hands (that you'll need to play!), that's why I'm considering buying a pedalboard backpack. One of my bandmates have a Stomp and some times I take it to my house and it's amazing that thing can fit inside most backpacks easily, it's super light and small, but yes it's much lower in DSP.

But I wanted a couple more external pedals and a mc6 controller and dual exp pedals so I build a 10x20 tiered board. Looked awesome in all black but I couldn’t get the dual signal chain with the single DSP so I went to a floor. Sounds are amazing… better than I can do in the stomp. But the size really bothers me. If I left it at one place it’s fine but I go back and forth to church and home every service so it drives me crazy. Soooo… I’m going back to the mini board. I’m testing the walrus acs1 for my amps (used most of my DSP), revelation for verb so now my hx will be for drives only so I can get several.

@@dookieeater I know right! It's not final for sure. I'm def concerned about the $ and sadly I do like the look but size and sound are my two biggest concerns. I love having a dual amp sound and yes I have some on the stomp and the floor that are AMAZING... but on the stomp have basically have no room left for anything other than maybe an eq or a compressor because my dual amp signal eats up 95% of it. So if I run the amps in the stomp, I need to put verb, delay and drive external and on a mini board theres just not enough room. So my (current) idea was to use the ACS as my dual amp, verb on revelation and still have 8 blocks in the stomp for drives, delay (which I dont use much). If this doesn't solve it honestly I'm considering two stomps. Looks a little silly, but one for dual amp and Eq only... the other for drive/delay.. still use revelation external prob. I still have my helix (for now) because it really is amazing. I've downloaded several presets from HWL, WT, Hislop and the best tone was from Rhett Shull. So I used his base tone and added the others' verb, delay etc.

Having both pedals and the Stomp, the pedal board is better ONLY because its learning curve is non-existent. A pedal is easily understood and we all understand how to plug them into each other. You simply turn on what you need and off when not needed. But the Stomp is another creature. Very STEEP learning curve. Almost all help assumes you are sitting at a PC. Also no one want to show the basics. They want to show how smart they are by setting up the Stomp in the most convoluted manner. Anf Line 6 CANNOT make a VERY beginners use of the Stomp with SIMPLE lessons to slowly build up your knowledge. I do not have access to a PC that will run Line 6's software so I had to learn how to do a basic setup by watching KZitem and trying to find others that are setting theirs up manually. I also cannot download the patches and the patch setting are shown on computers so no help there. My Stomp is used to add reverb to a Vox model. I could have bought a real amp and pedal for the cost. So I feel pedals are still king.
