There's a few things that You want to make sure to do before you tailor your denim jeans, as they're SUPER important! Tailoring jeans aren't that much different from tailoring anything else, but there are a few differences that you want to know about that will help you out a ton!
First off, you wanna know how much your denim weighs. It's weighed in ounces, and lightweight denim is going to be between 5 -12 ounces. Middle weight denim and heavy weight move up from there all the way up to 20 ounces. Selvege or raw denim can weight almost 30 ounces, and it's important to know because of the next two.
Second, what kind of needle do you need? You don't necessarily need a denim needle, you can get away with using a universal needle if it's light weight denim. Anything more than 12 ounces then yes, use a denim needle.
Lastly, you might think that since denim is made from cotton that you can use cotton thread but no, use polyester! Polyester thread will move and stretch with you, where as cotton thread will not. That's how rips happen, and they're no good!
