I have no end of problems really getting to grips with starting and ending scenes. Thanks for the video.

@@ValTheVideomancer Something else I tend to have a problem with are threads, when are you supposed to interact with them and when aren't you? As I will be working towards resolving a thread when a random event will then interact with it. Am I only supposed to interact with threads when the random events tell me to, or can I interact with them as I please, given normally I expect players to always be trying to interact with "threads" so I find their presence as random events weird? Kind of like a gm trying to redirect the game in opposition to players interest?

I've never done any GMing, and a real life move forced me to have to learn solo if I wanted to continue to play tabletop. I've been struggling for months now to wrap my head around so many of the concepts. I understood the relation to scenes in a movie, but you've really given me some stuff to chew on with when, where and why to change scenes. Thank you.

How would you play a detective game solo? Most of the fun is finding out whodunit.

It's not quite the same experience as playing an pre-written game, but I would basically use fate questions to figure out what are the facts, and make sense of them by process of elimination. Basically, you start with lots of options to explain what happened (ex: a murder) and by the time you have investigated the crime scene and the different leads, then you only have so many options left for what happened. Just like in a regular whodunit, there should be a moment where you say "this has to be it!" because all the other possibilities have been eliminated. If two possibilities have equal plausibility and you have run out of ways to test them, you can always ask a fate question (ex: was the murder actually an accident).

Do you have any advice for how to use the progress tracker and flashpoints in the best possible way.? I'm not sure I'm getting the most out of it so far.

I have played around with those only a little bit so far, but I will try to go back to them and make a future video about it!

I'm not sure there is a "best" way. Progress tracker is an extremely general mechanic, so it can be used in many different ways. I don't know if it's possible to exhaust the possibilities. Consider two extremes: 1) inspired by Ironsworn: a journey requiring multiple segments of successful travel, pick the number of boxes on the tracker based on the length of the journey, and flashpoints could be opportunities where success means extra progress awarded (faster travel). 2) inspired by PUM (Plot Unfolding Machine): a progress tracker is used to identify the boundaries of the entire adventure (which might span several sessions), where flashpoints indicate major "plot twists".

Great video, thank you! If I may ask, what accent do you have? I’m always interested in other languages and cultures.

Thank you! It's probably a mixture of accents lol. I was born in France but live in Quebec. I learned english partially from school in Quebec and from watching online videos and movies
