At the beginning of your socket presentation I loved how described the beautiful mix you have. My dad gave a mix of sockets that I still have 35 years later. Sockets and tools in general have soul.

Nope, you win. That is the best tool set I have ever seen! So nice to see a hard working set bought without any nod to any one manufacturer. If it does the job it is in the box. Great. It just goes to show you don't need to keep paying the truck guy, search around, buy what works and you can collect a great tool collection. Like you said, we would all love everything Snap On but tools are there to earn money, $300 plus for one low profile ratchet and a handful of sockets? Just buy the Craftsman. Thanks for a great tour, nice camera work too.

Just a couple of thoughts, your 1/4 inch socket driver is called a spinner handle. Also that Goodyear ratchet kinda look like a max craft from Napa. It has the two lube holes behind the selector lever. By far my favorite toolbox video. I own a harbor freight 56 toolbox.

As a final touch I had my wife label each drawer so you would know exactly where everything is and you would not have to open each drawer to find different tools. Those strips on each drawer pull out so you can label them. A great video I enjoyed it.
@fishhuntadventure
Жыл бұрын
Yes, with what to my ADD is somewhat random placement, and his multiples, the labels probably help. If you do major projects regularly or use them ever day the labels aren’t really needed imho. You basically ‘know’ where everything is. At least for me. What helps me is organizing common use tools all in one associated drawer. The primary three drawers in the top box are 3/8 socket stuff, metric and inch, torx, e-torx, allen sockets, air ratchet, several regular ratchets and 3/8 torque wrench- all one drawer. Above that is standard wrenches drawer, drawer above that metric wrenches, then 1/4” sockets above that: sockets, ratchets, 1/4” torque wrench, plus odd stuff like the triple square sockets, hex driver bits, right angle screw drivers etc. Top drawer in the top box is miscellaneous supplies like pens, markers, aveno hand cream, plastic gloves, a comb, hand cleaner, first aid stuff, emergency coffee packets, decals, a couple utility knives, keys… Top drawer in the bottom box is 1/2” ratchets, sockets, impact gun, 1/2 extensions. The right bank has a hammers and punches drawer, a precision measuring tool drawer, screwdrivers drawer… You get the idea. Everything related in its own drawer. No labels needed because nothing is scattered.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a 44, I had one in a pro collision shop when I went back into the business. As a tech you are most likely going to grow out of it quickly. Your next step would be to add on to the 44, move into a bigger box or stop buying tools. :)
@fishhuntadventure
Жыл бұрын
I’m six years too late for you but imho and from experience my advice is just save and buy the 56” top and bottom boxes and be done with it. 44” is “just barely” big enough for an all-around mechanic but the drawers aren’t quite wide enough for all the 3/8 sockets and accessories you’ll need or want in both metric and standard. So the 56” top and bottom set is ~$1500 and it will hold all my 3/8 stuff including torx and allen bits in one very full drawer. And you’ll have unused drawers for a while. But you shouldn’t need a bigger box anytime in the near future, or perhaps never.

awesome. I thought I had a big toolbox, guess not. going to try to get a couple vids up of it soon. I have seen that goodyear racing brand before. I bought a set of metric ratchet wrenches of that brand for my father a couple years ago, I bought them at Canadian Tire. I have that same stubby snapon set, but I noticed yours skips a few sizes, mine goes from 8 to 19, but I bought the sockets separately from the ratchet, maybe that's the difference. you have lots of extras, and no extra space. I just moved into this box I have like 4 months ago, didn't have enough room in the last one, and It was pretty big, but this one is twice as big, I have a few empty drawers, but that's only because they are the really shallow ones.

In response to some post. My friend owns the local pawn shop and I buy boxes with tools for about $100 each. I pick out what I want then give away the tools and boxes to those less fortunate. Given loaded snap on, blue point, craftsman, craftsman pro series, proto, mac, Waterloo and many others away. I buy in bulk. And yes I have a lot of doubles in case something brakes I have it. And yes I know how to use my tools, worked on freight liners ford trucks and heavy equipment. For years since 97' and am continuing to learn. I don't regret my box or tools, sometimes you need two 9/16 wrenches, just saying. I'm just sharing my video. Thanks guys. I'm almost 50 now and been doing this for over 2 decades. dont be too quick to condemn the autozone tools. i really like them i have a couple ratchets, just 3/8s and an 11/16 wrench. the flex head i use alot. i dont care about breaking it because its lifetime, i have yet to break it. i used it to break lugs loose for shits and giggles never slipped a gear after. so its my go to. i use it to break loose caliper mounting bolts that are pretty tight and seized. any kind of job that needs bolts broken loose that i cant get to with my 1/2 inch breaker bar. it just has very course teeth so i dont use it in tight places, but it hasnt failed me yet
