UPDATE: Good News! Thank you to the Richard/Bloody Producer and DR for making all the videos available again (EDIT: most but not ALL videos) 😃 What also happened is that I ended up speaking to the Bloody Producer; he made the point - both publicly and privately - that he wished that we’d got in touch before publishing this video. But I want to clarify a few things first: First thing I’d like to say is that primarily this was made as a reaction video; the purpose of it is to SHARE the old content that we had on our hard drives with the public because it wasn’t available anymore, and hadn’t been for more than one month. Simple as that. Although the mystery of why they were taken down in the first place has since been explained by Richard/BP, it wasn’t our core objective to find out. Nothing shifty. We wanted to make the videos available for all to watch via a fair use/reaction video sort of thing. Another thing about Richard/Bloody Producer mentioning that he wished that I’d “reached out” makes it sound like we have been on good terms ever since and I simply didn’t want to mention it to him. The last communication we had was in 2016 when I didn’t sign the last contract and it was made quite clear how things were at that point and there’s been no communication up until now. Long story short: things haven't been cool between us for quite some time. We both have had chances to chuck out an olive branch at many opportunities, but ultimately didn't. I felt that we were releasing this purely for the sake of sharing content with you - the people watching - not to do the dirty on DR or to stir up a controversy. People have written about this news over a month ago; blogs asked me for interviews about it; Tony Northrup made a video titled “DigitalRev DELETED!” On 2nd November 2023 with over 80k views. If either Lok or I wanted to jump on the Hot Controversial News bandwagon, we could’ve done it much, much earlier. Alas, I have apologised to Richard/Bloody Producer directly for not attempting to contact him before hand. And the good thing is that, as Richard and I are both grown-ass men, we can talk again, bury the hatchet - let bygones be bygones - and just move on. And even more importantly: the videos are back online on the DRTV channel and, well, Richard/BP has encouraged us to make more reaction videos if we want, which is great because we really enjoyed watching those old videos together and I hope you have too! Thanks for the support, everyone! Love from Me

It does say a lot that it had to become a pain in the arse for them before they even addressed the issue. But as it all seems to have been sorted out amicably in the end; yes, it's best to not go around accusing people.

Hey Kai & Lok, Bloody producer here. First thing first the videos have bene restored (there’s a post on DRTV channel explaining what happened). Long story short, no one is monitoring the channel so things decay. I wish you’d reached out to me first, but I also understand why you do what you do. I haven’t been back to our old channel for years, and this certainly brought back memories. I still remember the hundreds of weekly meetings we had together, exchanging banters and ridicule each other’s haircuts. I remember our shared love for Top Gear, and Lok our shared Apple fanboyship. Those were the most fun 7 years I had work-wise, and I still miss those days a lot. I’m sure you’ll agree that those were also our most creative years, daring to think big (nothing compared to today’s Mr Beast era but those were some big ideas on KZitem back then!). I’m glad we got it going for so long. I’m also glad you guys continue carrying on making these videos. I have reached out personally and hopefully you got my messages. Would be happy to catch up whenever you guys are back in Hong Kong. Please do more of these reaction videos. I’d be the first one to watch! And thanks for bringing back my memories, and renewing the interest in our old channel and content. Cheers, Richard (Bloody Producer)

The explanation, from @DigitalRevTV: "We are now aware of the “disappearance” of videos from this channel. There is no longer a team for DRTV therefore this channel and its associated email inbox are not monitored. An updated agreement sent to the channel’s email address was not signed passing the deadline this July. Upon contacting KZitem support, we were instructed to remove the channel from its MCN network and an error must have been made somewhere causing the disappearance of videos. We are working on having them restored. No one at DigitalRev including the Bloody Producer has ever been contacted by Kai or Lok about this issue. We regret that a small issue that could easily be fixed with one message had to be made into a controversy for video views."

I remember coming across these guys when watching FroKnowsPhotos on the Cnaon 80d back in 2016. And seeing these videos again nearly 7 years later is like a time capsule. But considering DRTV doesn't work with these guys anymore, it makes sense as to why they deleted them. But they don't realize just how much of lost media would have occurred on KZitem, had it not been for someone in Kai's network to archive them all.

I watched the video deletion process online. I had made a playlist of videos about Canon lenses reviews, and just when I switched between the two, one of them was no longer available, then the rest. I managed to watch a lot a few evenings before, I was very nostalgic. I know this may not be entirely appropriate to write here, but I think a big part of the success of your DRTV videos was your interaction with the city, the variety of backgrounds and activities. It was much more fun than todays equipment reviews in some deadly boring British forests. Please come back to the live environment!

At a time when photography videos on KZitem were becoming too focused on the specs and scientific tests, DRTV was a breath of fresh air. DRTV and Kai were the main reasons I got into street photography, and partly the reason why I gravitated towards gear suited for the genre. I go back to the original X100 and X-Pan videos from time to time, especially when I'm in some sort of a photography rut (since I love Kai's shots on those videos). It's a shame that both of those are now gone :(

My first photojournalistic work was the 2019 Hong Kong protests. I spent half a year covering them, right up until the lockdown. I thought, okay, people look friendly in those old videos, I can handle it. Those videos going is kind of like the burning of the library at Alexandria. Luckily there is a KZitem channel rehosting most of the videos, and I now have a 120GB archive of DRTV :)

Yeah, not sure what happened at DRtv, But suddenly they must have reversed course because my subscription feed is loaded with dozens of your DRtv videos DRtv with you two were one of the few photography channels I could watch and not get bored out of my mind. Seemed like you two gave a good representation of the camera without feeling like you were pandering to the manufacturers or a specific brand. Back in those days, it was really just you guys and Tony Northrup. But DRtv ruined that, and Tony just went downhill fast.

I'm planning a trip to HK next year, hoping to visit some of the iconic DRTV spots and take loads of photos! The channel that you guys built has fueled my and millions of other peoples' love for the hobby, I'm sure. If anyone reading this knows some of the places the team frequented, I'd appreciate a quick reply - would really help my research. Thank you!

DRTV of old is dead like Top Gear (UK) when the original stars left. When I first saw/heard Kai in a DRTV video I was sure Jeremy Clarkson was his dad.😆

My favorite videos are the travel videos, like the one to Taiwan and Amsterdam. These videos showed photography is more than gear and - and that travel photography is one of the best ways to fall in love with your hobby.

Hopefully, the same way videos suddenly appeared on Lok's drive they will somehow suddenly appear as a full archive on a torrent or repack site

I wholeheartedly agree with the Bloody producer, that having you reactions to your old videos would be awesome. Also considering you give some background infos and funny story about how it was back then! Also Reaction videos are a trend now anyway!

That’s really sad they would do that, especially when they stand to gain nothing from deleting all your videos. If it wasn’t for DRTV I wouldn’t have found and followed Kai. Now I know where to keep my sub.

I miss the vibe of DigitalRev videos a lot, just something about walking around Hong Kong combined with the background music always made it feel like I was there even though I've never been to Hong Kong. Hopefully all of the videos show up again on the channel eventually as there's still many missing right now.

I miss the glory days of DRTV circa Kai and Lok era. So much fun, great content, greats hosts and guests, and Hong Kong at its beautiful best. DRTV came at the time when I was getting into photography. As much as it was fun and silly it did offer genuine educational tips and showed the photographic process like in Protog, Cheap Camera Challenge. Super helpful. Thank you Kai, Lok, Alamby and EVERYONE at DRTV.

Oh no! That's terrible news. I LOVED the Protog/Cheap Camera challenges. As a beginning photographer it really helped illustrate that getting a good photo was about your skill and vision.

Crazy to think that Ive been watching your guys´ content for so long. My mom helped me buy my first Nikon D3100 back in 2010 or 2011 I forget, but I was a in 10th grade after saving all my lunch money, it was the most expensive thing I’d ever gotten, I had just turned 16 years old. I watched your videos every day religiously, I became fascinated with photography and have been a professional for 10 years now. I would ditch school to go practice shooting with my little camera lol, I learned from you guys how durable these tools are and I beat my D3100 to death shooting Punk rock and heavy metal shows lol, then I got the chance to tour with multiple rock bands because of my photography right after I managed to graduate high school, did it for a couple years and traveled non stop, using my 5D mark II and my 1D mark iii that I got after seeing your reviews about them, after I bricked my d3100. I always stopped my day for a bit when I saw you guys upload any gear review even when on the road traveling. I specifically remember that classic Leica M3 review by Kai, it was my introduction to Leica and was so happy when I got my own a couple years back, it was like hitting a little milestone in my career for me. Now I’m an annoying Leica head for work and personal use but I don’t baby my equipment thanks to you guys 😂 you both made it fun to learn about cameras/photography, even if 90 percent of the cameras/lenses you showed off I wouldn’t buy. the protragrapher vids were top tier, learned so much. Im now 28 and turn 29 at the start of the new year and run my own photo studio and agency, mostly shoot fashion and commercial stuff these days but I still get excited to see you both post haha. It’s def been a journey. You guys have def played such a huge role in my career thus far which is wild to think. I visited my mom the other day and she even brought it up that I’ve been watching you guys forever since I pulled up a new video on my phone lol. Thank you guys for always being so chill 🤘🏽
