In the books Jaime has a terrible fever dream after departing Harrenhal, he is essentially abandoned by his family in a cave beneath his castle and the only one to show up and defend him is Brienne. When Jaime saves Brienne she asks why and he shrugs and just says “I dreamed of you.” 🥹 God George is a good writer

When Jaime says "I can tell my father this man chopped it off...or I can tell him this man saved my life", it really shows Jaime's duality. He can be cruel and evil when he needs to be. But he can also be very kind and generous when he needs to be. He has the traits of both his siblings. Whom he is also torn between. The writing and the dialogue in these first few seasons were so good.

Jaime jumping into the bear pit completely unarmed is, i personally think, the most heroic thing in the entire series. Jaime's character arc is basically a man who is run down regaining his honor, inspired by Brienne, and this is the capstone. He jumps in while at his most vulnerable, without his swordarm, without a weapon, to save someone he originally despised, but learned to like. TLDR: this is Jaime being the very knight he wanted to be, but couldn't ever be because of life circumstances.
@bbjj0909

a lot of people say jaime's character arc makes him a good person. its not true. jaime's arc throughout season 1 to 3 is to let down the walls he has on himself and let people in rather than pushing them away. he killed the mad king to save hundreds of thousands of lives so he was looked down upon everybody. remember the line he says at the very first episode when he pushes bran out of the window? he says, "the things i do for love" he is someone who will give up his life to save the people he loves. his selflessness is self destructive and it tears him apart everytime. he gets tortured at robb's camp over and over again for pushing his brother out the window, he gets called a kingslayer for saving innocents and he loses a hand to prevent brienne from getting raped. he has always been this way but brienne is the first person he ever tells because he can see himself in her. a knight who is honourable and will die to save her loved ones.

That scene with Tywin and Joffrey was some great cinematography. The camera angles were such that Tywin always seemed to loom over Joffrey, demonstrating his power over him (as the real power in Westeros), and even more so when he walked up the stairs towards him. Such a dominating presence!

Jaime's true character is shown in bits and pieces over the first 3 seasons, but to truly understand him you really have to pay attention. Not just to scenes he is in, but to other scenes that indirectly reference him. This is spoiler free. It will only cover what you have already been told in the show...but may have not put it together yet. :) Jaime was an idealistic young man who wanted to be an honorable knight. His only fault, in his youth, was falling in love with his sister. Other than that...he studied, worked, trained, and surrounded himself with people he admired and tried to fashion himself after them. Then came the fall of King Aerys (mad king) and the birth of the title "Kingslayer". All because he tried to save the kingdom, and his father, and no one would listen to his reasoning. Only labelled him dishonorable and treasonous. Basically the GoT version of cancel culture...for something he didn't do. So he continued on with his life the best he could with the only love he knew. His sister and his brother. He ended up fathering three children with his sister. Now you have to remember what Ned told Cersei in season 1, when he found out about Jaime actually being the three children's father. He told them to run and hide because Robert would show no mercy. He would track them down and kill them all. Even the children. And Ned had reason to believe that. It all had happened before at the sacking of King's Landing and even after. Robert ordered the death of all of House Targaryen. He even had the kids killed. He even ordered Daenerys's child killed right before he died (although he did take it back on his deathbed). But Robert would have killed Cersei, Joffrey, Myrcella, Tommon, Jaime and probably Tywin and Tyrion had he found out the truth about his "kids". Jaime knew that and felt he had to protect them in anyway he could. Including pushing Bran out of a window to save his family. Underneath it all Jaime still wants to be that honorable knight, and he sees his younger self reflected in Brienne. And yes, he really does start to care for her.

Second instance Joffrey makes sense: first the "we should have a Royal Army", and now this. He doesn't make COMPLETE sense, however, since the power of the Lannisters was constrained both times. Trying to build a Royal Army would result in rebellion, and they don't have a means to strike at Daenerys. (Other than hiring a faceless man, which may not even be possible.)

Soft-spoken sweet-smelling Sansa, who loved silks, songs, chivalry and tall gallant knights with handsome faces. He felt as though he was back on the bridge of boats, the deck shifting beneath his feet."* - Tyrion, A Storm of Swords I think Sansa's naive daydreams of life in the capital that were so brutally crushed by her experience with Joffrey were rekindled all over again at the thought of marrying the Knight of Flowers. So she got her illusions shattered twice over. Brutal. These talks between Sansa and Margaery are remarkable in showing just how hopelessly outmatched she is to her 'queenly' counterpart and to the cunning machinations of the political forces around her.
