arguably, the film version toned down the hatred Snow kept to himself. I feel like Tom does a great job with displaying and vocalizing disgust he has for “district” folk throughout the movie. Most of the dialogue, even early on shows his views as very prejudice and superiority. I do think it was hard to pick up his self hate and disgust with self that I think is a big part of his paranoia, which is done better in the books.

It was a difficult task for Tom but i think he did it great. You can see it in his gestures but i would've love to have more of this scenes were he is 100% in disgust for everything (like Sejanus and his family) and how he try so hard to convince everyone and himself that Lucy Gray is not from the districs so it's ok for him to like her or how depressed he was in 12 before Sejanus arrived with his diploma because he wanted to go back. Also, how he choose 12 not for Lucy Gray but for himself.

@@katy98x100 yes!! I just said this on another video. Book!Coryo definitely was deluding self that Lucy Gray was not “district” and from covey which I think was why he even let himself connect. Also why I think he probably just imagined she’d go back to capital with him. I haven’t finished the book but I think Tom did great with his eyes and showing how he was very interested in how LG impacted others as she sang. I thought this was skillful as she rarely moved him, but more specifically when he would see others respond to her, I think she became very “valuable” to him in his eyes. Attraction to her was probably only a small part but he wanted power and I think he recognized her charisma was powerful. I think Tom nailed this but it’s subtle. I’m excited to finish the book and then take a rewatch because now I’m noticing how much detail they had in the side characters as well.

In Katniss’s time no one else knows about the cabin. It’s one of the many pieces of evidence that suggests her father is descended from one of the Covey (most likely Maude Ivory, Lucy Gray’s little cousin).

I very quickly found myself irritated with him because of how narcissistic his thought process was, and how quickly he thought himself entitled to essentially “own” Lucy Gray. I found him so irritating 😂 in the film we obviously don’t get his thought process so he looks pretty robotic with his actions and mostly apathetic emotionally (apart from when Serjanus is killed and when he loses control of Lucy Gray at the end). Hope you enjoy the rest of the book, I love your reactions! 😊

Agreed. I didn’t find him to be soft at all. From the beginning his whole aim is to “land on top” and I found him to be cunning from start. He just becomes more brash and daring in his approach as the book goes on.

i thought of him as softer definitely in the beginning of the book. He has two completely different personalities that raised him aka Grandmaam and Tigris. He admired and viewed Tigris as a role model and wanted to follow with what she said because he believed in her which is why all his acts of love towards Lucy Gray came from tirgis' advice and compassion towards the tributes (because he would do so much for tigris out of love). But he still had his grandma's more arrogant and overall more "capitol" ways of thinking, where he is still very selfish in all his inner thoughts. Which is also why he overthinks in the books a lot because he is also conceited but he knows he should present himself to be a bigger and kinder person (like Tigris) so more people will like him; but still presents himself as a person deserving of his title (why he never bullied Sejanus but couldn't also fully befriend him while living in the capitol). His descent into the evil character is because he was away from Tigris who was his guiding light. He never fully adapted to her way of thinking because he could never give up parts of himself at his current age to completely care for another (like how its mentioned Tigirs sells herself to provide for coryo). And then he will never get that chance because after he sold out Sejanus he mentally hit a point of no return.

It's funny to me that people actually think Snow could have turned out good. From the very beginning, he has always been self-centred and focused on only power. That would never change and him being gorgeous doesn't change that either. If you're actually objective enough, it's pretty obvious. But it was kinda clever to cast such a handsome man. Most people get distracted like this and don't see it😅
@Ana_Paula.Frasson
9 ай бұрын
I mean, Suzanne (writter) kept repeating how she took inspiration from illuminism debates about born evil versus created evil, while Nina (producer) talked a lot about how she hopes different people can imagine different points in which is possible Snow fully went the dark route, so why would different interpretations be funny? That's the point of art! For people to think different things and have different conclusions. There's no such thing as one and only view. One could argue that Snow is not some destined/ born evil dude, he made the wrong choices over and over and let himself be influenced by the wrong ideas over and over instead of the good ones. He became the villain. Like if even real sociopaths can absolutely live well in society as long as they still follow social and moral rules by learning them and by simply understanding the importance of them while being more naturally self centered and less empathetic, why can't a fictional character? He could've been good if he let himself be more influenced by Lucy, by Tigris, by Sejanus, he thought about it, just choose not to. That was no predisposition, even if he's mind works more with self ambition and a sense of superitority he could've still lived doing good things if he chose so. Immanuel Kant talks a lot about how sometimes doing "good things" is not about your natural desire of doing good but the social ethics and value of doing good. But yeah, another way of viewing it is that people are inhereantly bad sometimes and they will do wrong things without ever considering otherwise as long as it's best suitible, like doc. Gaul saying the games only show true nature of humans and we always wanna get rid of each other for our own benefit, just preys and predators taking turns, just sons always repeating their father's mistakes, just the way humans are. And when someone like that finds another someone who doesn't fit that selfish manner, they end up dead by the more self preservating one. Like Thomas Hobbes stating that humans are always naturally fighting each other and without external moral compass we would just be in constant war, each one fighting for their own benefit and the most empathetic ones dying first. See? Two points of view, both valuable and believable with the giving context. No opinion or conclusion should be disregarded as funny, it's just different.

Personally, I think the book is much better than the movie. It’s just hits different in the book. I loved having Snow’s narration throughout. It’s almost like he’s playing his own version of The Hunger Games to ensure that “Snow lands on top.” He’s mentoring Lucy Gray and in parallel Dr. Gaul is mentoring him. It’s almost as if she knew that Snow just needed the opportunity to carry on his father’s legacy.

I loved this film. The main issue was, the book was NOT written to be made into a film. It is narrated by Snow and his internal thoughts. That is would make a film, like this, very difficult to create. They did the best with what they were given, and to me- it is beautiful. The book has one way of telling the story, the movie has another. It reminds me of The Harry Potter Series, which I LOVE. I have the feeling if that were released nowadays it wouldn’t make it into the 2nd film. Some people get so stuck on the versions of things that they know, and any changes cause them to say the entire movie is a failure, it is just completely unnecessary- this movie is amazing, and the book is amazing. They both deserve their own separate credit.

My favorite thing is all the parallels in this book with the original trilogy. Like Katniss was a fighter made to preform but Lucy Gray was a performer made to fight. Sejanus and Prim both had hope and wanted to help as medics yet both died in the process. Tigris always calling snow “Corio” until the very end until she says “I think you look just like your father Coriolanus.” Cementing what she is now forced to reconcile with, that Snow was going to turn out this way no matter how hard she tried. If you’ve read the book it seems to infer that Tigris had to turn to prostitution in order to help the Snows survive the first war. Which is why a lot of readers think Tigris’s appearance changed so drastically. She went so far extreme because she never wanted to be touched again. At least that’s what a lot of us readers think.

My interpretation of the book and film was that Lucy Grey had self-preservation at the top of her priorities at all times, even after the games, love got her into the games so she admits that trust is more important to her than love which Snow just doesn’t understand as for him it comes hand in hand. Snow only trusts 3 people the Grandmam, Tigris and Lucy, and they are the only people he loves. He lies to or betrays pretty much everyone else. This does cause a conflict in him and we see him at the tipping point by the end of the story So when Lucy runs away from him, showing that she doesn’t trust him, to him by doing so she’s admitting she doesn’t love him. This means everything Snow did was for nothing as it was all done for her, so he loses it, the scales tip and he becomes the monster we know him as… Lucy Grey taught him that self-preservation is the most important thing so he doesn’t trust anyone anymore and interestingly he doesn’t lie anymore, what you see is what you get and that’s what makes him dangerous as the monster doesn’t hide anymore

Also interesting thought how things might have turned out if Sejanus wasn't killed. The actor who plays Sejanus btw is the actual boyfriend of the actress who plays Lucy Gray 😂

This was some great commentary and reaction. I think a lot of people are missing the point here. He saw what people do to each other in war. He also had gone through hunger. I have heard of being hungry all the time, but to go through that all the time is unimaginable. It is something that you can't comprehend unless you go through it yourself. Apparently in the world of panem there is no support structure for the very poor and you're on your own. Which does raise the issue dramatically. His cousin cared for him and now he was coming to her rescue. The status of the family name in the capitol is very strong in this world. He also wanted to keep that appearance. It appears that volumnia gaul is also like a father figure. Someone that is extremely persuasive and convincing. He also liked being in the capitol. He knows that a majority of the people there would likely do the same thing to succeed. I don't think he really had very much of a choice. It was his only choice. He would be thrown back into starvation and not knowing how each day went from there.

I loved your reaction so much! You had some extra info from the book which made it 😤🤌✨. But also I love how you pronounce Coryo's name & how u articulated his fine-ness. 😝 *Also, Im slightly ashamed that after reading the books & watching the movies over and over again, I never made the connection between him promising Katniss they "wouldn't lie to eachother" and Lucy Gray's distasted for lies. 👏

I hope you do end up reviewing the book! I also saw the movie before reading it, which I do think made me love the movie as much as I do, but all the reviews I’ve watched have been from people who read the book first. And I especially think it’ll be cool to watch a book review from someone who did a reaction to the movie first, so we can get your fresh opinions on both!

In the films 11 had more black people. However, 12 didnt have as many. It was the Appalachian area of the US, which even today is mostly white hillbillies. But the other districts had people of color

I’m not sure if someone else mentioned this. But there are theories that Lucy Grey went to district 13 and Coin is her daughter

@@wwhnThis was such a good reaction video!! I can’t wait for you to read the book and make all the connections cuz there’s sooo much detail that was left out the movie. and it was hard for me to say Coriolanus’s name at first too lmaoo

I’ve read the book and watched movie so I’m curious if those who wanted to leave would be able to go up north towards District 13 and whether 13 would’ve accepted them.

So what do you think? Did Lucy Gray survive the attack or die in the woods?
