Thank you George for all that you did. My uncle was a Battle of Britain Pilot who was shot down later on and died. How we need those guys now!

How sweet. At the start, they trained to play Chinese Whispers! This lovely old chap was a real life Private Pike.

It is hard to imagine how vulnerable a mosquito pilot would feel in a Halifax or Lancaster! I think I would have shit myself!!

The general public heroworshipped the fighter pilots, but the fighter pilots were quietly in awe of the bomber pilots. Seen as willingly flying a slow target - and then having to fly steady and true for last 5 to 10 mins, to target and hold it after, to get the all important photo. No photo, op didn't count on your total. Different psyches for fighter/bomber pilots. Team players, men who cared about subordinates, or the bigger egos, who were really there for their opportunities. Wanting to work for THEIR fame and recognition, not to work as one of many.
