17:59 So severely damage historical launch site 39A, possibly delay SpaceX's launch schedule by who knows how long, increase negativity/pressure from the (often frustratingly shallow & uninformed) media/congress and crew dragon delayed/disrupted... _Instead_ we now have a fully functional and reusable heavy lifter more capable than the Delta 4 heavy, at a far cheaper price. One that may have opened the way into the solar system, while also confirming their work on the BFR is on the right track. Also inspiring a new generation and likeminded people who want to follow their example. They have shown their concept works. They are now in a far better position. It was an incredible display of innovation & ingenuity that signals big changes coming in the launch industry, changes it needs. Who knows where that leads to. So people, you can have your explosions, or you can have humanity exploring/colonizing/mining the solar system (and beyond) for the benefit of everyone in the long run, as it gradually develops tech that can improve life on earth as well. Man, i wish people would understand what the ramifications of these events are just a bit better. Having spaceflight resemble the civil aviation of today would catapult human society into uncharted territory and endless opportunity. Thank you SpaceX. Loved your enthusiasm by the way!

They could not start 2 of 3 engines, that is why it did not work. 2 of 3 is fucking great, and now we have a Tesla in space. Greetings from Sweden.

ISP BrotherWolf No. there are 9 engines total for each booster. Not one. Only one of the engines lit up on the center core out of the 9. This is because it ran out of fuel. The side boosters lit 9 out of 9 engines.
@hellsgate09

+AKzebraMiner You didn't fully comprehend what was stated. "They could not start 2 of 3 engines, that is why it did not work." This is referring directly to what you stated, but is more accurate as a F9 needs three of its nine Merlin engines to land, only one of them managed to ignite. "2 of 3 is fucking great." This is referring to how only two of three F9 boosters, the side boosters not the redesigned/modified Core, survived their landing.

i was watching this at work here in New Zealand on my cell phone and i was (still am) buzzing over this also showed one of the guys at work this live and even he was excited about it especially when the 2 boosters landed side by side , epic

The Tesla didn't get into its intended orbit and the Centre Core may not have survived but this was a test flight, they know why the centre core did not slow down enough now and they overshot the orbit path for Tesla burn. But 100% a successful test regardless to get something into orbit with such smooth launch then landing the boosters like it was nothing. He did say they aren't re-using the boosters or core from this anyway but yeah.
@AmiDonk

You have a little wrong about orbit. There has never been a talk about the Mars roundabout, just around the sun and will come close to Mars in 10 years. The media has twisted it. Elon Musk said many years ago that he wanted to land a Tesla car on Mars.

kzitem.info/news/bejne/qqOlt6WEsoR9a44 Check minute 5:03 (taken and frothed over from the original live feed) and compare it to the the official SpaceX footage of the booster landing at minute 29:50. Now ask yourself why SpaceX changed its live feed footage and, if the landing was edited (and KZitem allowed this - which it does for no one), what else that SX pumps out to the adoring masses is fabricated? Subversive and insidious.

Obviously, fresh young minds are needed at NASA, no offence. Private Industry leads the way into space, just as depicted in George Pals 1949 prescient and prophetic classic DESTINATION MOON. Private Industry won the second World War, and the Cold war. Private industry will have those moon and Mars colonies as depicted in 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, which I watched 50-years ago on a 100-foot wide CINERAMA screen in Manhattan. We are 25-years late in space progress, but better late than never. Thanks to Elon, its more like THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO, from my namesake, the late Gerry Anderson. Elon Musk is now the leader in all of Aerospace, with ability to loft more than DOUBLE the payload, and at less than a THIRD the cost and into high Orbit for Interplanetary trajectories! And Reusability! I have wondered all my life, since the early 1960s, why NASA and the Soviets discarded their rockets after ONE use! You don't discard a cargo jetliner after each flight and buy a new one, which is what Elon stresses! Elon is leader in space! He has brought interplanetary and interstellar space in reach, NOW, 2018.

Excuse Me +Russell Anderson , We are Not seeing it has Private or Public, Nowadays We need more Space Industries to Save Humanity from Incoming Asteroids , Comets, Solar flares etc.. So We must be united in space not like Formula1 Race SPACE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR RACE IT IS ONLY FOR SAVING THE LIFE! So We Hope All Over Entire World Space Industries should Mingle with Highly Developed Space Technologies Industries Such like NASA and SpaceX in Future that would boost the Saving capability of Life in Earth! that's all We needed! So We are happy on SpaceX not like your's thoughts ! And also No One can LEAD the Space ! The SUN is the Entire Leader of the Solar System, So SpaceX and NASA is only a Human So We cannot be Leader for Entire Solar System or Entire Universe! SO DON'T BE LIKE THIS BE AS UNITY IN DIVERSITY!!! But We have One Question to Peoples! WHY PEOPLES ARE SEEING THE SPACE AS RACING TRACK? IS THIS PROFIT FOR YOU? WHY PEOPLES ARE SEEING AS PRIVATE AND PUBLIC LIKE THIS? BUT NOTE IF ITS PRIVATE OR PUBLIC RATHER THAN THAT WE ARE HUMANS! SO THERE IS NO PRIVATE AND PUBLIC IN HUMAN ! AND WE HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION IS THE PRIVATE COMPANY PEOPLES HAVE PRIVATE BLOODS IN THERE BODY OR NATURAL BLOOD ? OR IS THE PUBLIC COMPANY PEOPLES HAVE PUBLIC BLOODS IN THERE BODY OR NATURAL BLOOD?Tell to US Peoples WHY YOUR MINDS ARE GOING LIKE THIS ? BE AS SIXTH SENSE PEOPLES PLEASE! DON'T Use your Knowledge for Unwanted Thinkings of thoughts! PLEASE REFRESH YOUR BRAINS AND STUDY THE SCIENCE FOR UNITY IN DIVERSITY !! in 1960's We Didn't thought about Reusable Technologies! But We have Reusable Technologies Today! So IF A COMPANY OR AGENCY DID THAT WE COULD UNDERSTAND THAT TECHNIQUES AND WE CAN SHOW THAT TECHNIQUES IN FUTURE! SO BE Happy! Stay safe! HAVE NICE DAYS! TRY TO TRACK ASTEROIDS AND COMETS FROM YOUR BACKYARDS Whenever you are free!

I would not DREAM of arguing with you. Elon says he welcomes competition in outer space work. And you guys already are working together, point moot. We all win. My full time job is energy and space at www.spintronicgenerator.com we just got our patent. One hand washes the other. Sorry to rile you! I think NASA should optimize and develop the patents they got 17 years ago with Serrano, and Campbell, and I understand the new ElectroMagnetic Drive has passed peer review. NASA says it can get people to Mars in two weeks, so I hope they are hard at work optimizing and mission planning, for all our sakes! Peace. We are on the same side.

In the famous words of Enola Gay co-pilot Robert Lewis, "LOOK AT THAT SONOF@BIT#H GO!" That exact phrase has been said several times in history, but it is especially apt with the FH launch. They say that the FH has double the payload of it's nearest competitor and does it at 1/3rd the cost. The FH is reusable too while the other is expendable.
